Bought Trezor through Amazon, arrived sliced open.

I’ll be returning.

I was wary of purchasing the item through Amazon. I made sure that I was using the correct supplier. Even still it was a red flag when the shipment was delayed repeatedly. Then it arrived with the box and cellophane clearly sliced open. It doesn’t look like the device was removed but I’m not taking any chances.

I post this in the hopes that others will be similarly cautious.

I welcome any thoughts on purchasing through Amazon as I’m sure many will be looking to do so.

Edit: Don’t buy from Amazon, it’s stupid and you are stupid if you do it. Your soul will require saving and even considering this route will guarantee that you are gonna make a huge mistake at some point along the way, losing all money you’ve put into Bitcoin - which is probably your life savings.

People out there can learn from my mistakes. There is a lot of wishy-washy info out there but just.. don’t buy from Amazon. It isn’t worth the convenience. You been warned.

I assume it didn't have to go through any customs? I had quite a few package being sliced open and checked when they went through the custom in my country.

For Amazon.com, it appears to be fulfilled by Amazon so it'll be stored within one of their facilities and it brings about an additional layer of middleman that could pose a security risk. I wouldn't be too surprised if it was returned and they didn't sort it out properly and it got resold again.

Never been a customer of Amazon because the shipping time in my country is so long but to see that getting your package cellophane getting sliced open gets me worried but I think it is not Amazon's fault, I think it is more of a customs in your country that likely sliced open the package, I do understand what they are getting into but knowing that it is Amazon package should be enough for them not to check it out for possible narcotics. I think your customs are a corrupt bunch that are trying to score some big packages that might come through your ports.

Good choice to return rather than risk losing your funds. Where will you be buying next? Order from the official website. You may be paying more on delivery but you can be assured that it's not tampered.

I remember reading a case where someone bought a rigged Ledger online. I think it was also from Amazon. What happened was a previous buyer returned the HW and kept a copy of the seed phrase. The store, upon receiving the item, didn't bother to check or maybe he's ignorant too before selling it to another buyer. The new owner, who is most likely a newbie, didn't reset the seed phrase before storing his assets.

At least Amazon has the best customer service,when it comes to returns and refunds.I think that they even offer return free shipping.I assume that you won't have any problems replacing the Trezor wallet or getting a refund.The damaged packaging most likely wasn't caused by Amazon,so there's no guarantee that you won't get another sliced open package,when ordering a Trezor wallet from another marketplace.

Return it, rent a PO box and order from Trezor's official website using a fictive real name (and maybe also purchase a disposable prepaid SIM card and create a new e-mail for the order) using the PO box as a delivery address. This is to avoid future database leaks as Ledger has been in the wrong once already, so expect future attacks as well.

Or, create your own Trezor wallet using your own components. There are quite a few tutorials on the Internet if you're interested in it.

Not a customer of Amazon and I don't see buying thru them as of this moment but if I will buy a hardware wallet where I will put most of my holdings with then I will not buy on an online store.
It would be better if you bought on their official website. Amazon can help you still with your problem but don't ever buy there again unless it came from their official website .

Do you mean that the box that contained the actual box of the trezor was sliced open, or do you mean that the authentication sticker was also sliced open, and the actual box of the Trezor was opened? If its the latter, I couldn't possibly recommend using it, even if it did come from an approved reseller, since it could have been tampered with during transit.

In reality, it would be rare for someone to have the know how to tamper with it in the first place, especially without butchering the device. However, definitely better to be safe than sorry.

If it did come from overseas, then customs to tend to open packages, and they don't tend to care about slicing important authentication stickers either.

For OP, are you aware that there are lot of fake trezor hardware wallet on some random online store? Even in amazon.
Trezor have list of resellers which you can also be assure that the trezor wallet is legit if you don't want to buy directly from Trezor.
Because maybe you bought a fake trezor wallet which is very dangerous.

Or even better (perhaps a simpler way) is if the customer has the opportunity to buy such a device in a physical store and pay in cash. Of course in that case it should be a store that has a good reputation and will not intentionally sell you a fake device or in any way mess with the device.


kulboi123 , the only sure way is to return back such a device, although there are methods to restore the device to the factory condition. I'm not sure if the hardware inside the device can be modified to somehow fool the boardloader, bootloader and firmware that check the integrity.

That is the reason why I really checked all of the information online before I buy a certain product.

I always check its reviews, feedbacks, legitimacy, ratings, and other information that will serve as a proof that I will order in the right seller.

Sometimes, people are unaware about buying online and they are too confident that what they see is what they get which is really risky and wrong. And in your situation, Trezor is an important thing and should work properly and it is risky to buy that online , in a store that is not guaranteed to sell that kind of item.

Maybe you might've experienced bad with Amazon on the purchase of Trezor. It has got specific service platforms dedicatedly working on these area. I've been using Amazon for a long and haven't encountered any big issue with Amazon on its services. This hasn't got anything dedicatedly working for a cause, so no worries and enjoy.

I’ts not crystal clear if you’re talking about the box used for transportation, or the product's box, but since you mention the sliced cellophane, I’m assuming it’s the latter. That would suggest that the product was likely returned item by a prior customer, who may have placed everything back neatly in the box, and may or may not have actually initialized the device.

What the reseller (Amazon in this case) should do, is return the product back to the manufacturer, since Amazon will be incapable of determining whether the product has been tampered with or not. Wether the product has been tampered or not, it's going to end up in the hands of the customer next in line...

There are items that are particularly sensitive, such as hardware wallets, which should have a specific differentiated workflow from the common type products, warranting that the customer will always receive a brand new non-previously returned product. Additionally, Amazon seems to mix stock from different platform resellers on some items. This is fine for items such as books and toys, but again it should have a different protocol for specific items such as these.

Dont buy cold storage from amazon! there have been rumours where amazon employees are being paid to leak info of customers who have purchased Ledger and Trezor devices to hackers who have bad intentions for your coins.

That's a good point, it annoys me when companies don't take certain goods seriously. Honestly, hard drive returns, and things like Trezors should be binned off, as Amazon certainly doesn't verify that the contents haven't been tampered with. I was under the assumption that most retailers liquidate stock like this, rather than relisting it.

Where have you heard this? This is quite the significant claim, and I'm not even sure I can even consider it to be true for a moment. I'm not even sure, how this would benefit hackers, since all they would know is you own said device, and you might be a target for phishing attempts. Also, I'm fairly certain that the pay off for being caught leaking company information would just not be worth it, especially considering its apparently known that employees do this.

Mine says it is from Trezor Official on Amazon, so maybe I should be fine as it is directly from them just with their storefront on Amazon. Will see how it is. Thanks for the heads up and hopefully it works out for you. Yeah, no way would I feel safe if it arrived like that. Return it for sure.

If this is the case, then the same thing can happen if you purchase the hardware wallet directly from the Trezor website. And the customs department may even subject it to even more rigorous checks, since Trezor is not widely recognized (when compared to Amazon). Isn't there a simple solution for this? Can the customer contact Trezor support and run some checks to see whether the wallet is compromised or not?

Just return it ASAP there is the tendency of your Trezor has been compromised to avoid touching stories, that is one of  my stand against using those hardwares, the possibility of stealing the phrase seed is very possible even from an insider in the factory,  once those coins is stolen it gone forever, these are some of the risk associated with cryptos security and safety of coins against hackers.
