Whatsapp and privacy

I think it's a pretty desperate step by WhatsApp. There are a lot of competitors with well-known names and reliable history. I haven't been using much this messenger earlier but recently I tried Telegram and really liked it. What I want to say that these privacy changes aren't bad or they are unnecessary but it can make Whatsapp lose a big part of users which is sad.

WhatsApp delays updated privacy policy after confusing users.WhatsApp had asked users to agree to the new policy by Feb. 8, but has pushed that deadline to May 15 while it further explains the changes.

I wonder what they change from the privacy policy. If they listen to their users, I hope they will not make it hard for their users. Otherwise, their use will leave WhatsApp and use other platforms. Telegram will be the next platforms that their user will use because Telegram does not have a strict requirement. Besides that, a newcomer called Signals uses this time to invite the WhatApps users to try their platforms.

I guess, the concern about the WhatsApp and its privacy stems from very poor track record of its parent company, Facebook. Facebook has acted very poorly when it comes to proper management of user data. According to the article by eduhelphub Cambridge Analytica scandal is one big example, along with plenty of security breaches and preferential treatments of big shot advertisers. So, the skepticism of the users is only natural. Moreover, one can't help but wonder, if Facebook can do all of those unethical stuff, while pretending to maintain user privacy, what will it do, now that it has declared that user data from WhatsApp will be used in the Facebook platform.

I do not know if you have heard but it seems that from 8 February whatsapp will change its privacy policy for users outside Europe by crossing whatsapp data with those of facebook perhaps for better advertising profiling, may it be of interest to users? yes why? if you are on a working whatsapp group, other users will be able to go back to your facebook profile

I never let any apps that i use to be connected in another apps or social media platform together because for me my privacy in one apps will be remain as is and my privacy in another will do same .

i just don't know what Whatsapp plan for this , or they wanted to adopt like what Instagram or other platform do these days?

I don't know what degree of security and privacy signal has but maybe there is an absolutely safe alternative that is based on peer to peer and the tor network you can take a look here https://briarproject.org/

I just downloaded Whatsapp and did an analysis on it. It's required to access your contacts, your media, your gallery, your documents, your camera and microphone.

That's a lot of permits you have to agree before using them. Well, I don't like them, they are tricky, I can't even find my contact despite I've added it already.

I uninstalled them rightaway.

Its because whatsapp allows you to text, call, video call, sending files and you missed the location access because you can even send your location to your contact using it. Its weird that you don't have whatsapp before, atleast tried once!

I just did it a while ago when my friend asked me to do so for some job reference. But I don't like it, it's hard to search for a contact. I did all necessary things that I've found on the web to make a contact appear but I can't find it.

I can say that I'm adaptable to technology but I don't know why I can't search the contact that my friend wants to me to look at. I did searched and added it but not reflecting on the search box and that's why I've uninstalled it.

AFAIK, whatsapp is unlike telegram, you can't find the contacts using the username alone. You need to save your contact on your mobile first and then refresh the contact list on the app if you search it immediately after saving the contact. If the contact is not on the whatsapp you will see the invite button as well.

I havent used the Whatsapp app in a long time probably since the time I deleted all Facebook associations from my computers and phone.  Just cant trust what they consider "privacy".

Been using the Signal app for secure messaging and the UI is very nice and no problems so far.  You can make free calls and video calls so no reason to use Whatspp at this point.

So, possibly there are two reasons why some contacts are not showing up.

1.When you saved a contact without the country code or right country code then you won't be able to see the contacts while searching.

2. If you saved with correct country code then you may need to do some changes in the whatsapp settings Settings==>Contacts==>Show all contacts, make sure the option is ticked.

Then don't know what is the actual issue but by the way you are giving importance to your privacy is a good thing. If you are using any privacy social media on the google chrome or Android then it also voids the privacy.

Yes, Facebook is expanding its expansion into the free world more and more
