Searching the forum prevents posting topics for 360 seconds

I wonder if this is a functionality that is expected. If I search for something using the forum's search functionality, it does not allow me to post anything for 6 minutes. I get the message that this IP has posted in the past 360 seconds. Has this happened to others?

Users with less than 15 activity can't make more than 1 post per 360 seconds.

When it comes to the waiting time limit, every search you make is considered as posting.

 

- Searching is now subject to the same spam protection limits as posting. So newbies have to wait 6 minutes between searches and users with more posts have to wait progressively less time.

So you need to have higher ranks to reduce the waiting time before posting the next one.As mentioned in the above post even searching is considered as posting activity.

Just use the google search option on the search page until you reach the requirements, this won't affect your activity on the forum.
All this was done to protect the users, a day ago we hit 3M registered accounts.

On the site note, READ THE RULES if you haven't done it yet, and keep in mind that this is not a regular forum. You'll find out what I mean if you stay for a while

Well i think the main problem is there are too many scammers who would over-run the forum with stupidity and make it unusable for everyone if they had the chance. Such assholes are the reason why we have to deal with these measures in the first place. If all the scammers suddenly decided it was a good idea to stop being evil for a living, then we wouldn't have anything to worry about. But alas, some people just insist on being pieces of shit, and they get banned, stupidly try to come back under a new account thinking nobody knows its them, etc.

every single forum have scammers, where is money, there is scammers.
that does not mean every single person should be treated by same way.
those problem exist since online trading and will remain till their existance.
we cannot stop scammers, but we can be more patient and friendly to the newcomers.
i had enough time to read a lot about the forum itself (not the tech part but the community) and there is many shady people and things going around.
the main problem is scammers do not understand that doing regular legit business brings more profit than stealing once.

All scammers are dumb, as the nature of scamming is a net stupid-inducing affair. Scammers are only scammers because they are too stupid to do anything else.

Being evil for profit is dumb, as whatever gains you made are offset by the amount of stupidity you've introduced into the universe. Besides, it always ends poorly for those who can't stop scamming. Look at what happened to Bernie Madoff. Would anybody call his life choices "smart"?

Thanks for the info. My only problem is that while posting, I might quickly look up another thread or search for similar details posted before. I understand the need to stop spam, but I think it should be 1 search every 360 seconds and 1 post every 360 seconds, not both clubbed within the same window.

This newbie restriction is not only to stop the spam but also to restrict the DDOS attack (correct me if I am wrong). Often we can see lot of websites faces attacks on a website with huge traffic from the same servers with different nodes and also happens with bitcointalk but not often these days

You won't be having any issues once your crossed 15 activity which doesn't take too long bro.

If you still want to check something use the google search.

That's somewhat true. It mainly involves SQL injection attacks whereby an attacker could insert malicious codes, not just in URL fields. Imagine with the cooldown not there, and just one person orchestrating.
