Hello,
There are some new laptops which were announced recently with 3080 - 16 Gb and Ryzen 5900HX cpu. Do you think they would be good for mining and how much would be the hashrate for the 16 gb 3080? And also, can you mine monero with the cpu in the same time while mining ETH with the gpu?
The 3080 specs: NVIDIA CUDA Cores: 6144 Boost Clock: 1245 - 1710GHz Memory Size: 16GB or 8GB Memory Type: GDDR6
Thanks

No laptop is good for mining. Its a thermal problem.

yeah pretty hard to cool it. and i think the battery would struggle with constant high load even if you keep the charger plugged in.

Laptop mining is not a good idea: - expensive compared to standard mining setups. Expensive to fix if something goes worng - possible thermal issues - no upgrade / extension possibilities I think it might do well with a new coin though, when you mine a lot of coins just after a coin is released and then sell it when (and if) price goes high

Besides the cooling issue, let's assume it has a good cooling, what would you think about that gpu? as is has less cores that the desktop one, but higher memory. And what about mining in the same time different coins with gpu and cpu?

You will overheat the psu and the cpu. You will drain the battery even with the charger installed and running. It is a bad idea.

I don't think you should cpu mine and gpu mine at the same time, but I was looking at those laptops for work it has 3 sets of heat pipes, so you should be fine if you just cpu mine with it.

Buying a laptop specifically for mining is a very bad idea. You won't get anywhere near the performance of the desktop version of either the CPU or GPU, while paying a higher price and shortening the lifespan.
Only mine on a laptop if it's paid for and no longer needed. Remove the battery first.

How much do these laptops cost? This is a very risky business, but it all depends on the profit. If the warranty for a laptop is 2-3 years (you can buy an extension of the warranty) and the investment pays off in 8 months, then you can risk it. But first, it's best to look for video cards. I am sure that these laptops will be very expensive and unprofitable to mine on them.

They are 3500 pounds, but I was planning to upgrade my laptop, I'm using it for gaming sometimes too, and I was wondering if I could also use it for mining when I'm not using it for something else. I haven't seen 3080 16 gb, and I was wondering what hashrate it is capable of.

3500 pounds =4800$ 3080 16 GB will not be faster than 3080 10 GB. This is probably such a special offer to get people to pay $ 4800 for this laptop. No need to take the latest laptop models for mining, because in 2-3 months their price will drop dramatically. It's cheaper just not to mine and wait for favorable prices or discounts.

There is a possibility of mining memory intensive algos, like Ethereum.
As it said above, overhetaing is the main issue, however with smart settings it is possible to mine. I do mine on my Razer Blade base with Nvidia 1660Ti. Forget overclocking, focus on downclocking, undervolting. Your should limit GPU voltage as low as possible, 0.7mV is works pretty well for me.
If it necessary you can limit GPU usage in Phoenixminer with -gpow xx - where xx is percent. In my case my laptop hashes with 23Mh under 52C. Which is pretty cool.
Nvidia 3080 Mobile has the same bandwith like 3060Ti dekstop, maximum hashrate is 62Mh, but unlikely it will work in a long run, however 45mh could be possible imo with reasonable undervolt & underclokcing.

Based on a bit of Googling, looks like the specs for the laptop gpu are significantly lower then the desktop version GPU Engine Specs: GEFORCE RTX 3080 NVIDIA CUDA® Cores:8704 Boost Clock (GHz)1.71 Base Clock (GHz)1.44 Standard Memory Config: 10 GB GDDR6X Memory Interface Width 320-bit Graphics Card Power (W) 320 GPU Engine Specs:GEFORCE RTX 3080 LAPTOP GPU NIDIA CUDA® Cores: 6144 Boost Clock (MHz) 1245 - 1710 MHz Standard Memory Configuration: 16 GB GDDR6 Memory Interface Width: 256-bit GPU Subsystem Power (W): 80 - 150+ W Have to say looks like a pretty awesome laptop (although i would only ever spend £400 max on any laptop, and probably then go for a chrome book) I guess for me at least, you buy a laptop to use as a laptop, and if you only want max mining performance you might be better saving on the laptop and getting a dedicated desktop (or rig)....as they say "The choice is yours"

What about the cpu mining? I think you're missing the point slightly. No one is going to tell you exactly what you can or cannot do, or advise you what is safe. I think you simply need to look at any performance desktop PC and look at the size of the air coolers, or the water coolers they are using, along with the huge power supplies and it becomes obvious that a laptop cannot be expected to do the same. So YES, you can cpu and gpu mine with a laptop, just like you can mine with a raspberry pi 4 as well....but how well it performs, and how long it will last....well no one can tell you that. If i was going to cpu mine with a laptop, i'd only use 1/2 of its cores (not threads), so on a 8c/16t cpu, i'd use 4 cores....might not overheat too quickly.... Be interested to know how things turn out for you. Keeps us updated please.

I don't understand your logic. A laptop is a mobile computer. In a regular computer, the processor and video card have different cooling systems, while a laptop has a complex cooling system. Overheating of one chip affects the temperature of other parts in a closed case. Why do you need a passive income of $ 500 a year if you buy a laptop for $ 5,000?
