Bitcoin vs Gold after Zombie Apocalypse

Many people hoard gold in order to barter when the Zombie Apocalypse is upon us.

But could Bitcoin and blockchain still function with pen, paper and sticks and no electricity?

Could Bitcoin still be mined using primitive means such as cave paintings, albeit at a much lower cadence?

Until we solve this conundrum, then gold most definitely has one up on Bitcoin in this use case.

In a worldwide zombie apocalypse(The Walking Dead style where zombies dominate the world), I'm guessing that bitcoin and gold will not be that useful. Chances are, people will be bartering with water, bananas, bullets, and such.

Dumbass, of course people will be looking for something tangible. Gold will win 100% of the time, bitcoin and electricity will be the least priority at the first stages of this kind of collapse, even if the first stage has already passed bitcoin will not be a priority, civilization will go back to barter system. Here is a list of items that are valuable: Water, Rations, Seeds, Non-Perishables, Bullets, Weapons, Wood, Firestarter Kits, Medicines, Knife or Carving/Cutting Equipment and First Aid Kits/Implements.

About bartering we do not know what kind of things we will barter to be able to survive on that period. I don't think that bitcoin nor gold will be the priority of the people after the zombie apocalypse because people will need necessities in order to survive and the materials that they need are not bitcoin and gold so meaning that will not be the prioritize of the people. The materials that will be prioritized by the people in order to survive was water and food, they will not care about gold nor bitcoin anymore because they will just barter or trade things that they need in order for them to survive.

In times of Zombie Apocalypse, of course you need to be practical and look for something that will benefit you in reality.

These Bitcoins will not make you survive the attack, the famine, and the weary that you can experience in that scenario. We will surely go back to where we begin, where people are looking for something to offer and trade for something they need. People will value more on scraps, food, GOLD, clothes, and etc., because being practical will help you in times of survival.

Why not just compare gold with Bitcoin in the real world, rather than when even both will no more be useful. This also is far beyond happening, while the likely chance is far below what could possibly happen now or in the future. Concentrating on the reality, on what could possibly happen as gold is the strongest assset on earth and as bitcoin taking the digital form that could possibly compete with gold in term of marketcap in the future.

My first thought exactly.  

It is not in our nature to get back to old habits once we have discovered a certain advancement in technology. I'm sure that even in the case of a worldwide catastrophic event people would still keep the network running. I mean there are underground location and mechanical electricity generators. I'm sure some of the OGs will mine them with the thought they will be rich once we get out of the situation.

Gold? I'm not going to carry around some big chunks of metal when I need to run from zombies haha

When we talk about affecting the humanity, assets will not matter that time because the only that will matter are those tool for survival.

Bitcoin, altcoins, or digital currencies will not be valuable in times of crisis that can affect people's lives because people will look for a real value or items. It is also possible that Gold will not matter that much and Gold can just be the same like other metals which can be used for making crafts or in blacksmithing.

It's hard to say. I'm pretty sure that Bitcoin would be pretty much become useless to barter since you can't really do anything to it to survive. Maybe people will find Gold useful as a form of currency to at least create a some sort of order or you can maybe use it to create tools, weapons, as a conductor, etc. Though gold may be useful, people won't prioritize it when a zombie apocalypse really come since it's pretty rare and mostly stored or hidden somewhere.

Hilarious topic. If a zombie invasion actually happens, human beings will still find a way to keep the Internet alive thanks to satellites etc. The Internet will never completely be wiped out of existence.

People will still be able to use the Internet though the speeds will probably be limited along with the data requirements. This implies that it will still be possible to trade cryptocurrencies like BTC through the blockchain technology.

This would be easier when compared to trading gold which requires physical access(Big problem when zombies are trying to eat you).

Would Gold still be mined during a zombie apocalypse? Besides rich men sending their little "slaves" to mine for them so that after the zombie apocalypse they are still the richest, I don't think gold, cash, Bitcoin or so on would be worth anything for the average person. As I've sometimes heard, you cannot eat gold, can you?

Barter is the way to go in that case. I give you food, you give me weapons or your little safehouse. But Bitcoin will probably not cease to exist even in that situation - you find a PC with a full Bitcoin Core node on it and there you have it.

Exactly! And it is very unlikely that the whole world gets infected all at once. Resistance groups shall be formed in the mountains and in underground locations. Hopefully zombies won't be part of our reality until we have a satellite mesh network established.
