RTX 3080 or RTX 3090 ?

Hi there,

First of all, sorry for my english, it's not my first language.

I'm reading a lot of posts and i try to learn a lot about mining.

I'm going to try and i'm actually looking at some GPUs on Aliexpress.

The only thing is, i don't know what to choose between RTX 3080 and RTX 3090. I could invest for 6 GPUs and i will have an electricity cost of 0.14 € / KWH.

Nicehash show me a record around 8-900 $ / Month for this configuration.

What do you guys think ?

If price does not matter, just quantity, buy 3090. Just remember, that it has a ot of thortlling.
3080 is much better choice in matter of price/hash ratio. Less problems in matter of throtlling.
Best choice would be 3060Ti, but in this case, you need do buy more of them to cover hashrate.

Price thus matters here, a RTX3090 costs over 2000$ right now and RTX3080 hashrate is same with RTX 3090, to safe few dollars more it's better to buy the RTX3080, as for me I'd rather buy two pieces of  RTX 3060ti instead of buying RTX 3090

I think that you have nothing to do in mining with such a tariff for electricity.
I would not buy expensive video cards on Aliexpress, any problems with the warranty will be resolved for a very long time.
Nicehash showed you the current profit, I'm not sure if it will remain the same in a week or a month.

Personally I have gone with the 3090.

My logic is you get up to 30+ more MH/s on ETH alone compared to the 3080 not to mention how it handles other algorithms ion a faster manner. At .14 KWH its marginally cheaper to run the 3080...

I am seeing them pop up used here on Ebay and Craigslist sometimes for 1850 - 1900 most still have a warranty....

I wouldn't be buying these at $2400+ new though.... That seems silly. However there is always a gamer out there looking for these when and if you want to sell it!

No card comes with as much expectation as the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090. Being the sole replacement for two heavy hitters from the last generation, Nvidia Titan RTX and the RTX 2080 Ti, is no easy feat as those are some big shoes to fill.

The good news is the “BFGPU” hiding behind the enormous heatsink is more than capable of doing heavy 3D rendering and gaming, due to its 24GB of GDDR6X memory. It’s also powerful enough to run 8K gaming at 60 fps, although the performance there still comes with some mixed results. If you decided to start mining in anyway - the better choice is 3080. But it is pump time now. GPUs are overpriced and your electricity costs high. After dump your ROI would be about 2-3 years at least.

Be careful on aliexpress, make sure you buy GPUs from sellers that have sold many before and also go through their buyers review, this is very important because not all items on aliexpress are from good people, some are just there to scam you, the review part is a must to get a serious seller

3080s are greatly overpriced now for only 10gb memory and suffer the same eth inefficiency and mem overheat problems as 3090.
So, I would recommend 3060ti or 3070 for better efficiency and better thermal solution.
If you cannot find 3060 or 3070 - better go for 3090 - it will have more aftermarket sale value and better density.

Dont mine unless you get a card at a cheap price right away.

we are having inflated mining profits. once they get closer to normal these cards wont be that good.

Who said that the RTX 3090 is meant to replace the Titan RTX? It has been expressly said that the RTX 3090 is not meant to be the Titan replacement, its not "the same as Titan". A Titan has a lot more driver optimizations for specific use cases, and those haven't been enabled on RTX 3090, and probably will never be, as there for sure will be another Titan 30 series card. The 3090 is meant to be the ultimate prosumer card, not a workstation RTX Titan replacement. I think it has been stated in the tech press and by some Nvidia officials too, multiple times.

Well, I don't know if it's a good idea to buy vga on aliexpress, be careful if the offer is too low
Both video cards are good, even for games, but currently video cards are expensive.

Have you thought about buying the 3060TI? it is cheaper, and has a great cost / benefit.

I don't know if you are thinking mining ETH, you need to be careful, because the migration from PoW to PoS can happen.

To compare GPUs within the same family you can divide the CUDA cores it has by its TDP. The 3090 (10496 cores / 350W = 29.98 cores/W) has a higher ratio than the 3080 (8704 cores / 320W = 27.2 cores/W).

RTX 3070 and 3060Ti have successively lower ratios too.

Maybe I should be using the system power required values in the specs instead of the TDPs though since that's the total amount of power a rig with one inside will use. I haven't made calculations on those but looking at the numbers, 3080 and 3090 have the same power requirements of 750 watts so without taking the price into factor, the 3090 will be much better than the 3080.

And the lower-end cards have power requirements that are just a little lower so they're not worth it.

Of course if you're  getting charged 50% more for a 3090 than a 3080 then stocking up on 3080s becomes the more economical choice.

For gaming RTX3090 is a beast but mining with this card is roughly the same result with RTX3080 but at the expenses of high energy consumption too, if you have the money and don't care about mining only the RTX 3090 is a good buy

for standard price 3080 is better for mining

but some card have ram overheat make hashrate drop problem.

best card for mining right now is 3060ti or 3070
