Hi fellow bitcoiners,

I need a technical help on XMR mining. I have recently purchased a high-end laptop with below configuration.

AMD Ryzen 9 4900H with integrated AMD GPU
NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti Graphics Card 6 GB

I have tried to do XMR mining using my CPU which has done a little over 2 KH/s. I know it's not sufficient for mining but I want to use my Graphics card to do the job. I have tried ETH mining with the graphics card and it has done 27 MH/s. This power is not sufficient for ETH, but it is a great power for XMR. But I am unable to use it for XMR mining. I know RandomX algorithm is a purely CPU based POW algorithm, but is there any way to use my graphics card here?

I have seen few Youtube videos where people have used NVIDIA GTX cards for XMR mining but couldn't find any way to execute. Any leads will be appreciated.

Regards,
Avikz

Since you want XMR mining, I don't understand why you have started by asking in Bitcoin mining sub.
Please move your question into Altcoin mining sub.

About your question: did you look at the Getting Started page of your pool?
I've taken one random XMR pool and found out that they recommend xmrig; then, on xmrig website I've seen that it's a CPU and also GPU miner.

I don't know how good or legit the miner is, I don't mine XMR for many years now, however, I see it can handle NVIDIA too.
But please continue yourself from here onward with the reading: https://xmrig.com/docs/miner

First of all mining with a laptop is a bad idea. It only makes sense to do if it's otherwise junk, because it's abuse.
There's thread after thread warning about laptop mining.

Second, a 4900H is not equivalent to similar model desktop CPU, neither is the laptop 1660ti the same as the desktop version.
You're expectations need adjustment.

Third, no one mines XMR with a GPU because it's ineffective. Mine something else with a GPU, but not on a brand new laptop.

You will need to enable huge pages.  Go on YouTube and watch video how to that will increase it. Also use xmrig.   Did you use the wizard?

Many thanks for all your suggestions. I have been able to use my Nvidia Graphics card for mining by downloading the CUDA plugin. However, I am surprised to see that it is delivering only 558 H/s of power (lower than what my CPU did)! While this same graphics card has done 27 MH/s for ETH mining. The power depends on the algorithm but I didn't expect such a huge variance.

Hi @waywoos,

I am using xmrig and supportXMR pool. Do you think enabling "huge pages" will help me achieve the full potential of my graphics card?

There is XMrig miner for AMD and XMrig miner for Nvidia, you need to get the right one for your gpu and also that CPU is better for RandomX Algorithm than your gpu so it's better to mine XMR with your CPU and mine ETH with your GPU, also to get higher hashrate you need to activate huge page for your CPU, it's been long since I mine Monero, I can't even remember how to buy I'm sure that google search have the answer.

Hi @waywoos,

Try this, which it works for me.
1. 8gb  ram recommended.
2. Virtual memory set min 25600 & max 51200 <-- if you have spare HDD space.
3. Reboot
4. Check on your Config.json (how many threads are you using on your CPU?)
4a. it looks something like this ("rx": [0,2])
4b. everytime you wish to add a thread it goes like this 0,2,4,6,8
4c. everytime you add a thread, best result is to do a restart.
5. Most important steps, run XMRig using Administrator mode.

Hope this helps.

My Dual Xeon runs with 16 threads [0,2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20,22,24,26,28,30] <-- looks like this
I have 2 old laptop are just abusing it till dead runs on 3 threads [0,2,4] <-- looks like this
i have 4 desktop with i5/i7 are running with 5 threads [0,2,4,6,8] <-- looks like this

Huge pages activation have nothing to do with the hashrate you are going to get from your graphic card (gtx1660ti), huge pages are only good for CPU, if you are getting let say 1000 hashrate from your PC before huge pages can double that hashrate for you

Hi all,

Many thanks for all your suggestions. I have enabled the Huge Pages and my CPU is doing around 4 KH/s along with administrative privileges. However, as rightly pointed out by some of you, it is not enhancing the performance of my graphics card. Now I have one simple question,

Is there any way to enhance the performance of my graphics card to fetch Similar hashpower for monero mining like it did for ETH mining?
