On my own contribution, I think the etheruem platform has got advantage on this because it has a wide coverage because
The majority of the cryptocurrencies were actually ERC-20 tokens built on Ethereum platform, despite new competitors coming to take the market away from the dominant blockchain but it has continued to grow far above other altcoins.

Nothing is impossible actually or indispensable too but for now etheruem is still the choice after bitcoin in cryptocurrency rating. Nobody is thinking etheruem won't be overtaken but we can also see the chain of activities in crypto world. We see if etheruem goes bear many projects also drop. And in general talking about bitcoin also when yearn.finance (YFI) went pass bitcoin because of pump, it has stabilize @$29,855 now and bitcoin still topping @$31,889.  But the thread isn't whether etheruem will be the best altcoin in future but it has all the factors including

1. Low fees
2.Fast transaction delivery
3.Large network coverage
4.Ground for ICO projects
5.Network update and technological growth.

I think this more realistic, ethereum is such not good for future.
Especially after ETH 2.0 happen, many miner(which are a big part of community) will consolidate to move to another coin and move big hype of Ethereum to another coin.
Also as Payment Processor, Ethereum is not scalable, slow, and expensive.

Every week the same topic is take out? Ethereum has not chance to "beat Bitcoin". In order to have your dream come true 2 things have to happen:

• Ethereum get to the point it can properly handle the load (i.e. lower the fees). No matter how you try to market them, they are still abnormal. (maybe possible to fix in the future)

We all know that all these factors are not enough for being second best. There are also faster and zero fee coin like a NANO. Or the faster NEO. However, this does not mean that they have to replace ETH. In fact, that is not even the point here, it is a matter of passing BTC. Look at the charts on the market, almost all of them repeat the chart of BTC. In this case, what beat can we talk about? and this situation will continue as long as this market survives!

Can you explain it briefly? What is the actual positive thing of building all those shit projects on the same blockchain? It isn't going to make any changes if it was build on the different blockchains right.

But those shit erc20 tokens are making the ethereum more congested and its fees is getting above $20 for a simple transaction.

And that's also when the proliferation of scam projects started. It's no question that many projects choosing it because it's where it all started. Most of the successful projects today made it through Ethereum.
Because of that, other project developers have seen and knew how easy and quick it is to use Ethereum for their projects. But to have a ratio, IMHO, out of 100, I guess 2-5 are only good.

No doubt Ethereum is top altcoin available in the market and its tough competition to Bitcoin but the point of it overtaking or outraging btc is not true In light of any event because it serve a different purpose.The btc was first crypto if it's type developed say on version 1.0 then ETH was built on version 2.0 and it is also built on blockchain technology but it allows others projects to build over its platform using ERC-20 tokens and many coins have been built on ETH technology which is quite a advantage of it but still it has many flaws like high transaction fees and it cannot handle loads like Bitcoin technology.Moreover EEA support behind ETH technology let's user smart contarct usage to built projects to deal with complex situation in a handy way.But still btc remain on the top of list due to advantages over other altcoins and customer trust and preference over btc network has made it strong enough to be broken by any other coins in the market even ETH.

So many faults to ETH, I have one account with more than 9 pending transactions that if I cancel, I will have to pay fees just cancelling, I no idea why so the tokens stays there still.  I don't know what makes the metamask I have that makes it very difficult to operate lol increasing my gwei to at least pay $15 for the transaction but it still stuck. ETH is good, it's just not something that will beat BTC.

It's good that in the crypto market, coins are becoming more independent of the price of bitcoin. However, bitcoin is still the locomotive of the entire market and this should not be forgotten. So if Bitcoin allows, then Ethereum will show good growth.

Ethereum is barely clinging to its old 2017 ATH, while Bitcoin already established a new ATH that was twice as big as the previous one. This means that Ethereum was a rather poor investment for long term, you take all the risks of Bitcoin and get less rewards. Ethereun's ATH in Bitcoin price was something like 0.132 BTC, so if you bought at that price or around it, you'll never recover from it, because even now "bullish ETH" is only 1/3 of that level. Just because ETH has some upside moment doesn't make it the best asset of 2021.

^ when you compare Ethereum to Bitcoin and then say Ethereum is better than Bitcoin then you are wrong. ethereum will never beat Bitcoin because until now there are so many shortcomings of Ethereum. The fees charged to Ethereum users are even greater than Bitcoin users. Bitcoin price is much better and also the amount of Bitcoin circulation is fixed and does not continue to increase like ethereum.

ETH is a real project and really have the best platform to be used by many project and its really possible to replace BTC on top, but it will be hard and its not easy because many still believes that Bitcoin should remain on top. They both made a new all time high this year so it will be a tough battle between this top coins.

Isn't it Ethereum already beat Bitcoin already last year, specially as far as the growth? And it's obvious that Ethereum could grow even more, thus potentially surpassing bitcoin again this year.

But the best thing for Ethereum though is that there are a lot of improvements in the pipeline and they are trying to address the biggest issues so far, high transaction fees (even higher than bitcoin now).

I surely agree with this @jrrsparkles and that is one big problem etheruem faced because of many shit and scam project. That really brought etheruem in a staggering foot back in 2017 because much fud was on the platform from etheruem like scalability challenges etc but I think etheruem will come up better
