Maybe a hundred years ago, but no longer.   Borders are only used to stop masses over there using the resources over here.   Just because you remove an imaginary line does not mean 4L of water can satisfy ten people a day instead of one.   We're going to have resource wars within the decade.  :/

If a god gave me the power to make a small patch, I'd probably fix those minds that never converted to metric.   Nothing can change our lack of resources, so might as well it easier to determine who gets what.
