Is it just me or there are others who noticed this? @philipma1957 I know you are good at mining rigs, if you see this post kindly make contributions, when mining I noticed that if my Temp °C increase the watt will also increase just a bit, or is this happening because of my overclock and downclock setting?

Do you know what is the efficiency of a power supply?
The higher the temperature of the power supply, the lower its efficiency.
As the temperature of the video card increases, the speed of the coolers increases, so the overall power consumption of the farm grows.
Therefore, a properly designed ventilation system reduces energy costs.

Simplified, heat is energy (e) and power is the rate of energy (e/t).
Increasing the clock increases the power which increases the heat.

The higher the heat the higher the energy, this is why highly cooling system is a must if you want to build a mining farm, if you can consider one it will benefit your farm but it depends, If the increase in temp is just 2°C different then you are good, for Nvidia cards it's better to stay under 72°C and for AMD which was designed to withstand high temp make sure you stay under 80°C

You're right power consumption is linear with temperature "thermodynamics law", so when night your power consumption less than noon, assuming you live on tropical country, so if you trying cooling down the rigs, do the math, sometimes ppl using air conditioner burning lot of wattage only cooler 1-2C not effective. Mining room need good air circulation...

Miners performs better when they are cool, when temperature is too high their performance can go lower and they could even draw more energy, I'm not surprised, before building rigs always consider cooling methods, the less the cooling temp the better

What type of cooling method are you using ? That's some RTX3080 I guess right? How did you manage to keep the temp lower under 50°C that's really awesome, many people are complaining about the heat from RTX3080 and RTX3090 that was what discouraged me from buying the cards, people and their claims, sigh!

Good setup mate, hope you don't mind me asking how much it costs to buy that type of motherboard you are using? I used to see those motherboard on aliexpress but I never thought they worked this good for mining, now that I see it in video makes me want to get one

These are Onda boards edit a clone of Onda dp1800 model

Good setup mate, hope you don't mind me asking how much it costs to buy that type of motherboard you are using? I used to see those motherboard on aliexpress but I never thought they worked this good for mining, now that I see it in video makes me want to get one

I purchased 9 boards for 631 usd including shipping.
They came on a slow boat from China 37 days to ship.

They are not ONDA dp1800 boards they are a clone. edit

But they are a very good deal.
Once I got them I ordered 9 more and the guy said no. orders until after the Chinese New Years.

Ie feb 20 or so.

These boards do everything the onda dp1800 does.

2 differences are cpu cooler is different
the boot ringer is very loud.

I knew they were clones so I wanted to wait till I got the 9 before I ordered 9 more.
USA still has trump tax on China so I did not order 18 on the first shot.

I like these you can mount 3 cards with perfect spacing and use a 750 or 850 watt psu.

if you use smos a 2gb stick of ram works.

I have 1 board using 2gb stick of ram
I have 1 board using 4gb stick of ram
I have 1 board using 8gb stick of ram

If you do a 3 card and don't use any add on riser you can cut mounting board shorter.
Six it has 6 slots if you do a three card and alternate you have 3 spare slots.
Lastly since it is a Celeron 3900 cpu if you fit 6 gpus say low power amd 5500 xt  the cpu will struggle a bit.

I usually build 3 long cards and a short one on the end.

Or just 3 cards.

very easy to cool. and cheaper 750 or 850 watt psus work.

More detail on the clone aspect a Chinese clone of gear is common.

You do not want a 50 dollar clone of a 500 dollar item the clone will suck .

but this was 70 dollar clone of a 110 dollar item and so far I see no down sides.

And why don't you use raisers and mining farm cases to install video cards at a distance of 15 centimeters from each other?
With this arrangement, it is better to use reference video cards, and you have non-reference video cards on the video.
For such an arrangement of video cards, you will have to use an increased fan speed

Did you see the temps. All are good.

This gear will be leaving my home in April and going into a large warehouse with a ton of fans. 18000 cfm out of the mining room and 19000 com into the room.

Risers are simply a poor choice that many go for thinking they are good.

My rigs run for years with zero issues. Trouble shooting these rigs is basically instant (under 5 minutes)

Try finding a bad riser on a 13 card rig that crashes the rig intermittently. 1 usb cable out of the 13 is bad and it does it on and off.

you lost the hash of 13 cards on and off till you find the problem.

I would have just save myself a lot of money if I knew this motherboard can be this good, I just ordered for some risers days ago and it will take weeks to get here, I've never heard any one saying risers are bad, you are the first one

i know it from transistor behavior,i do alot electronic circuits. when transistor gets hot then resistance increase so effeciency decrease. to keep same transistor you spend more energy to keep it working.thats why all board consumes more energy. transistor gets very bad effeciency after 90c reached.

I do not use more than 6 graphics cards in 1 farm.
The farm is much easier to maintain and all components are easy to sell as computer parts in the secondary market.
A large warehouse with good cooling will solve the problem of overheating of video cards, but if the miner does not have such a warehouse, then you have to use raisers

It's not a riser issue, it's a scaling issue. A 13 card rig is twice as likely to have a failure, any failure, as a 6 card rig.
With more components to troubleshoot it's harder to find the fault.

I had a 13 card rig.  UGG  it never ran 10 days with out something wrong.  Usually a 1 or 2 card drop out.

These mini rigs when they are loaded with 3 or 4 nvidia on smos have 100 day up streaks one or two streaks like that each year.

My gear is scattered

LakeWood NJ    5 gpu rigs
Howell NJ         5 gpu rigs
Howell NJ         2 gpu rigs
Clifton NJ         7 gpu rigs. and tons of asics for LTC and BTC

Uptime = king for me.

Heat = the enemy for all this gear.

and yes sometimes your space forces the use of risers.
