Is there any advantage when you mine with 8x GPUs in a single motherboard vs using two motherboards with 4x GPUs on each one of the motherboards?  A friend said a single 120mhs from a rig have high chances of solving shares better than 60mhs in two places, is he right or wrong?

With 8 GPUs rig, it's more efficient, because there's only 1 motherboard, CPU and hardware to use electricity, instead of 2 rigs, you can save 40w to 60w depends on which mb, CPU etc
With 2 rigs, you'll be able to solve problems quickly, and it's easier to deal and keep runing 24/7, rigs with 4 or 5 cards are pretty easy to maintain

About 120Mhs with 1 rig vs 2 rigs with 60Mhs, honestly, never heard about this, it should give you the same amount of shares, because you'll use PPLNS

It's about rig density and power efficiency.
The share and income will be the same.

The safe sweat spot is 5 GPU because it's easy to find motherboard with 5 PCI-E and and power PSU to power 5 GPU.
If you go for 6-12 GPU, you will probably need dual PSU (unless it's single 8 PIN PCI-E per cards like RX 580), strong risers and a linux based mining OS because Windows will have trouble managing so many cards

But to be honest, HiveOS, SMOS or mmpOS are awesome mining OS.
So you don't even have to be afraid of leaving Windows

You will still get the same results in shares solving, the advantage of using two motherboards is you will get lesser heats and get shares solved faster I guess but more electricity since the motherboards have different watts and even CPUs too, I like using 6x gpus on a single motherboard than having more

There are things to look out for here, if you have low power supply like 500 watts it's better to set up two rigs because this power supply can't power up to 6 GPUs, it's better to divide the GPUs on two motherboards, four here and there, also it's less stress work for two motherboards than one motherboard unless the motherboard you are using is made for mining purposes only

I do not agree.  And here is why. 

Using risers removes all stress from the mobo.  13 gpus on risers are less stress on the mobo than a single gpu plugged directly in to the mobo. 

Plus it helps spread out the gpus so they run cooler. 

Less mobo / cpu / ram / psu / storage device = less cost and less wasted power.  Means more can go into gpus then being wasted on the support hardware.

There is no issue getting multiple psu to work together just some simple rules:

Best to use a Y or W 24pin adapter to sync 2 or 3 psus.  If using server psu then use the 4 pin link connection to main psu.
Always power mobo with the primary psu...connect no other psu to mobo unless it is via a Y or W 24pin cable.
Always power gpu & riser pair from the same PSU.
Do not overload wattage on any psu chain or connector.  Also known as do not use sata to power your riser or gpu.

And most important if building a rig use linux or a linux mining os...you can run from a thumbdrive and can run on pretty slow cpu...like celerons and pentiums and only need 4gb ram max.  Again use the least to get the most. 

Of course this is just my opinion from running my little farm.

Hi miner29 you said it's wrong to use sata to power risers and gpu, what about those powered risers that comes with female sata plug that can only be powered with sata cable on power supply? Or Maybe I'm the one that got your explanation wrong?
