Help needed understanding the side effects of settling an open position in an ex

Hey everyone!

I've got a 2x-leveraged open short position in my Kraken account that I'm paying fees on. Does anyone know if, by settling the position (not closing), I retain the short position as-is? In other words, is no longer paying fees the only side effect of settling the position (as well as losing the funds needed for settlement, of course)?

That is, will I still be short with the same exact position after settling it but just not paying fees anymore?
