Hello guys,

I have a problem with my rig and don't know how to solve.

My rig is this one:

psu: absym morpheus 1000w platinum
mobo: ASUS Prime Z390-P
celeron g4900
2x4gb HyperX FURY Black 3200 mhz
2 rtx 3080 ventus 3x
1 rtx 3060ti zotac
3 old risers pci-e (used 3 years ago with rx 580 rigs)

The problem is simple: maybe every hour or less -sometimes it shows no problem for 4 hours- but the result is that pc freezes (miner or bsod) and even I have to reset manually (although I have the miner configured with restart when freezing and reboot bat file).

I have tried phoenix miner and nicehash miner but with both I have same problem. Furthermore, I have tried lowering all memory and core clocks, with no success...

Even I dediced to buy another psu (before I had 2 bitfenix 650w gold connected between them with psu adapter) to see if that was the problem but still failing.

So, don't know what more to try but is absolutely exasperating, because if it happens at night, I can't see it and rig is stopped (even more it is spending 220w with doing nothing...)

Any solution please?

Thanks in advance

Try a linux mining os on a thumbdrive...dont even have to remove hdd/windows....just boot off the thumbdrive.  If the problem persists its something in the hardware.  If it disappears...its the os.

It can be Windows problem, i`ve got such a problem with my home pc. If you don`t want to use Linux-based mining OS try to localize the problem - use 1 GPU, if it`s ok - change GPU, if all GPUs ok - change risers.

it looks like driver crash. make fresh windows install then look for good drivers for mining. turn of all updates for windows and defender. then try again without oc see if it is stable.
and 1 more option is download hiveos and try it to see if its crashes again, you can run it from usb.

thanks for your answers Smiley

although I'm not newbie at all in windows/mining and all of that, I fear I'm totally noob on linux, never tried this s.o. before Sad

with my main pc, I have another rtx running 24/7 with 0 problems.... even have tried changing with these from the rig, and same results: 0 fails

how I know which are good risers? and where do you suggest to buy them ? Im in spain, amazon maybe?

will use ddu and installing drivers again, but how you know which are good drivers for mining? and more important, if I mix 3060 and 3080 cards, which nvidia driver need to be installed? the 3080's one? both?

I think I  know what is happening
don't fuck with windows if you have a working rig other than this one with windows just use that one for windows and mining .

make this rig all simple mining os.

get a usb stick and burn the software on it.

 https://simplemining.net/

https://simplemining.net/page/download

https://mega.nz/file/bAMHSKSR#qZEBbES2jFTG318vWkFLl-Jb4FvPUIfnsZ4AYO1ei7k

it is easy peasy to do it and you get 1 month free.

Your issue on windows is settings for watts drop out on all 3 cards

so

1 x 3080 goes to 350 watts
1 x 3080 goes to 350 watts
1 x 3060ti goes to 250 watts

that is 900 watts plus mobs chip cpu chip and fans it crashs out

you can test my theory by doing 1 x 3080 and go back to check watts every few hours and see if watt setting fails.

My 1x 3060 ti loses it 124 watts setting every 10 to 20 hours. but just 1 card and a 850 watt psu thus no crash

The art of "process of elimination" begins.

This is where spare parts becomes useful.

I'm using windows 7 BTW..i got clones of 80gb hdd..i am surprised that cheap flash drives are now at 128gb LOL. Will try flash drive booting hehe

Clones will make ease of eliminating windows issues or hard drive issues...if they are the problem. Also check the sata cable, just in case..

You become desperate because you can't move those cards to another rig and continue mining...if you have spares then you have the luxury of time to troubleshoot the issue.

Don't need to be desperate, as I always say, just calm down and do the tests, it's a machine, simple like that

1 - First, do a fresh install OS, put windows 10 from zero, install the latest Nvidia Drivers, it's the same for 3060, 3070, 3080...
This is the latest one: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/170312/en-us

1.1 - Try with Nicehash because the program will do the hard job for you, like plugins and configs

2 - You can also try Hive OS, just need to read for 10 minutes, and you're ready to go. You can test with a flash drive: https://hiveos.farm/

3 - If the problem persists, you can eliminate software issues, and search for hardware

You can test with only 1 GPU, and connected directly to motherboard
You can test with risers, one by one

You can buy another risers, it's cheap, and it's good to have spare ones
You can uninstall all hardware, clean all parts and reconnect

At this time you can already know if you have a problem with a card or not

After that, the only remain possibilities are: PSU and Motherboard, if you have another rig, os a friend with PC, you can test new PSU.
And then, if all steps above fails, probably a motherboard problem, but it's rare.

3 old risers pci-e (used 3 years ago with rx 580 rigs)

The probability of the source of your machine's problems must be highly related to these old risers. I have reused some risers that have been idle for a few years and the failure rate is quite high.

I appreciate so much your answers people!!!

well, I think first I will do will be uninstall drivers (although the righ has last ones) and I have installed windows 10 pro 2 weeks ago and nothing more than mining app, afterburner and gpu-z :S

psu is not possible to be the fail here, the other one I had was bought 2 weeks ago and also was one of the best 650w psu on market and this one I bought 2 days ago is even more efficient with enough power and better efficiency (platinum plus vs gold)

moreover with the wattage monitor I have on wall, I see that the total consumption is about 623W, so room enough until theorical maximum.

I really prefer not changing OS if it is possible, because when 3 years ago I had 5 full rx 580 rigs, didn't have any problem with so (the only "problem" I had was to trick bios better to maximize hashrate), but if there's no other option, I'll try and install whatever of these you have recommended me Smiley

Talking about spare parts: I have like 30 more or less risers (all of them bought 3 years ago), another nvme ssd, a brand new mobo (gigabyte z390 ud), other celeron g4900 and the same psu brand new also. So I think I can do some combinations between these other parts (were destinated to my second rig hehe)

As I told before, if I connect only 1 card there's no problem at all, it comes when I continue adding cards.... I followed same win guide that years ago (in bios checked Above 4G decoding and then I have dedicated 100 gb of the ssd capacity to improve stability)

Have tried nicehash several days, but if it hangs out or freezes, it does not restart the computer (phoenix miner with correct config does).

The worst type of crashes are the ones were it freezes the rig because you have no idea which GPU is causing the problem. My advice is to look at the logs and see what happens right before it freezes. Your GPUs mine be hashing like this

GPU0: 30 Mhs    GPU1:  30Mhs    GPU2:   30Mhs

then

GPU0: 30Mhs    GPU1: 15Mhs GPU2: 30Mhs
or
GPU0: 30 Mhs   GPU1: 0 Mhs    GPU2: 30 Mhs

then freeze

So in the above example, the issue is the middle GPU.

It looks like windows 10 is the culprit here, better try out other mining OS that's build on Linux, like hiveon OS or Minerstat OS, if it's still doing the same thing then I suggest looking into those risers, remove two cards and try them one by one in the rig

This will undoubtedly be either one of the risers or a flaky gpu. i would strip it down and rebuild it using 1 card amd 1 riser. have it mining for 24 hours and see if it's ok. if it is then add another riser and gpu. test again until it freezes. then you will have found the bad riser or gpu

Try new risers.  Faulty risers will fail intermittently.
Your power should be fine, just make sure your 3080s dont take 300Watts each.  Dial them down to 200ish.

Since you've changed the power supply the only thing left to do is the riser, and if you've been overclocking your graphic card one of the RX580 might be suffering from the overclock I suggest you downclock right away, try a card and a riser one by one till you find the issue, either riser or gpu, must be one

update:

this morning I decided to use ddu and then install drivers again.

first I put only 1 rtx 3080 and then the second one. after some minutes, decided to connect 1 rtx 3060ti, but windows and miner does not recognize it... as I had not enough time for testing, I left the 2 rtx running.

hours ago again I saw with teamviewer that the pc was not running, so rig was freezed out completely and this afternoon my girlfriend had to restart it manually (I'm not at home out until sunday)

so, as the options are limited, I think I will install an specific miner os as some of you have recommended me. any advice about that? nvidia drivers are the same? I'm totally newbie with that

then I think will try 12 hour with only one card, then will add the second and test again 12 hours

important: where could I find the phoenix miner log? in the folder didn't see it....

I have other question, that never asked before, I hope some of you can give me some info about this. The story starts so many years ago, when btc price was about 30 dollars, I started mining with 2 dual cards, the top amd cards in that moment, and if my memory is enough good today, I remember that I mined 2-3 btc so easily.

I had in my desktop the .dat file and as all people told me that was pathetic and with no future, so as I was young, finally I sold the cards and stopped mining...

however, I think I had the file renamed and with the extension .dat removed (I thought someone could enter my computer and steal my wallet) in some place in hdd. Which is the easier solution to find a file like this in a hard drive: I have tried several ways but all times without success.

The miner is likely not going to be able to log the reason for the crash.  You will have more luck looking thru the system log (use event viewer in Windows and look for hardware related events).
As for your second problem, you can download InfoRapid Search & Replace.  With this you can look for a particular file in your whole computer.  Widh you good luck!

I have seen official youtube tutorial but it is from 2 years ago and after trying some config, not seen anywhere how to do

Hope some of you could guide me in this process

thanks in advance!!
