Hi!

Will a single PSU like this be enough for a six 3070 gpu mining rig?

EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 G+,
https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=220-GP-1600-X1

I read TDP of a 3070 is 220w...x6 is 1320w which is pretty close to 1600w.

Yes, because you're going to undervolt them, they will do around 130w, 135w each, so it will more than enough. It could be ok even for 8 gpus.

Ok thanks.

I read as well that sometimes even when undervolting there are cases when the settings will go back to default. At max wattage is the 1600w psu still ok? I just don't want to end up with fried GPU's!

Totally safe, without any issue
Yes, it's true, sometimes, once a month or twice, my system crashs and overclock settings go to default mode, and consumes more power, but the TDP of 3070 is 220w, so you'll have maximum of 1400w counting with wattage of whole rig, a 1600w can handle 1400w easily

But 1600w is awesome to handle with the optmized settings for your rig, each 3070 will use 130w, so it's 780w + motherboard, CPU etc - 830w

It is fine if you use a linux  like smos they rarely drop power settings

but windows 10 with msi afterburner drops a lot.

In stock 1 3070 uses about 200-220Wt. The else system uses about 30-70WT. In stock you get power consumption about 1300-1400Wt. It`s  85-90% of maximum load, and this is a bit more than recommeded. But if you undervolt you rig - your power consumption will be about 800-1000Wt and this is normal.

Such power supplies have a margin of power output.
If your farm's consumption exceeds the rated power by 50 watts for a few minutes, then nothing will happen.
But this is a very expensive power supply, it was better to take 2 power supplies of 750-850 watts or a server power supply, because it is cheaper.

I don't know how good the RTX 3070 are when downclocking them, you can get less watt consumption if you download their core voltage, you can get 117 watt draw from a single RTX3070 and six of that will be 702 watts, I believe 1600watts is more than enough mate

I use 2 mobos and 850 psu's

I build 3 or 4 card rigs.

Hi mining master, isn't two mobo equals more power draw? I think electricity is very very cheap in your country, is that UK or US? I mine with battery backup and I have to safe much energy as possible, I bet another extra mobo will even draw more energy, maybe another 60 watts for the mobo only?

In stock you get power consumption about 1300-1400Wt. It`s  85-90% of maximum load, and this is a bit more than recommeded.

Just to add some information because I like this subject
Modern PSUs, of good brands and good models, like this EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 G+, and another brands (Corsair, Seasonic etc) are pretty difficulty to burn or broke in this situation

First, it will handle the 1600w for a few minutes, or even for more time without issues, and even more, these psus will turn it off if you put to much electricity
These psus usually can handle even more wattage in tests, like 110% load

I'm not saying it's safe to play with 1600w for 100% of time, but it's very reliable to leave the PSU running for some time with 1300w or 1400w

There's good sources of tests like:

It's safe
1- Because the max power will not be exceeded
2- Because the max power of the rail in the PSU will not be exceeded

It's something to check.
This PSU is mono-rail, so 12V 133A -> 1596W max

I had a PSU (LEPA G1600 -https://www.lepatek.com/eng/product_content/1/1/20/) but with 6 rails and my rig shutdown sometime because I was push too hard on one rail.
After finding out and balancing the power between all the rails, it was ok.

So long story short ... don't just check the max power, check also how it's is distributed in the PSU .. and buy mono rail PSU, it's easier Cheesy

I run 5x (2x 3060 Ti, 3x 3070) on a 850W Seasonic X-850 just fine (I had extra cables so was able to plug each card with their own pci-e cable from the psu). Pulls 650w at the wall, each card undervolted to 125w so I would imagine a 1600w PSU should be more than fine.
