Hello community,
my name is Julian and I’m a student at TUM in Munich, Germany. Today I would like to introduce you to a project that could be very helpful for many people. I used to have problems getting started with Bitcoin because there were only few resources to guide me through every important topic of Bitcoin. That's why my friend and I developed the app 'Simple Crypto: Master Bitcoin', which explains everything step by step.

A big advantage is that you can finish it within 1 hour and even get a certificate to confirm your knowledge. People who used the app said that this course really helped them to become a Bitcoiner and they also said that this project is way too unknown to have this quality. If you know anyone who wants to get started with Bitcoin, we would really appreciate it if you could recommend us.

I know this project is commercial in a way, but our intention is to use it to cover development costs. Our mission is to avoid people getting into the bitcoin market with 0 knowledge and just because the price is skyrocketing. I think if everyone would understand bitcoin, the price would be even higher. We want to avoid these people being uneducated in the topic, especially in times like these with all the pump and dump.

With our app it is very easy to understand in a short time. The app is available for Android and iOS and free to use. Let me stop talking and make your own opinion about it:

Welcome.
Few important questions I have for you:

- Where did you collect all the information and questions used for quiz in your app?
- Is your app open source or not, and if it is open source please post github link for checking and inspection.
- What exactly are you selling in your app?

Somehow I doubt people today have enough patience to spend one hour solving a quiz to get certificate, and it would be much better done in stages.
People also love visual stuff and videos, and some short Bitcoin educational videos would be nice to have.

Why turn it into an app though? This kind of learning materials is something that can be done in a construction of a website which is more accessible for everyone as an app would just simply make them download and as well clear/allocate some memory for your app. Is this just because of ads or is this a school project of yours? Well if it is a school project I don't think it would be impressive for you or your professors having an app that's only use is to be clickable and has reading materials on it. If it is for ad purposes I think you can still earn on ads and applying it into a website which I think is the best route to go for this kinds of content.

Agree. I personally don't want to download anything (especially apps) to learn new things. I think an interactive website is much more appealing, and the risk is lower for the users since they don't have to install and download an app.

I don't know when exactly you start on cryptocurrency, but I believe we have a lot of sources to learn it online right now. Anyone who wanted to learn about crypto would probably use Google and find those articles instead of looking for an app.

So yeah, would be cool if you either add the web version.

Mobile applications are intended for convenience and ease of access. The OP seemed to develop this due to academic purposes. We know that it is really hard to trust installable applications, yet if it was accepted in both Google Play Store and Apple Store, there's not doubt that this is safe. The app also requires the following permissions:
Quote
Photos/Media/Files
  • read the contents of your USB storage
  • modify or delete the contents of your USB storage
Storage
  • read the contents of your USB storage
  • modify or delete the contents of your USB storage
Other
  • receive data from Internet
  • view network connections
  • run at startup
  • full network access
  • prevent device from sleeping

Those permissions are common in many informative applications and doesn't really have any harm on someone's device. This would be better if the OP would publish his code in github for a better in-depth analysis of the system. Yes, interactive websites are better but there are certain situations, especially when it is for academic purposes, that building it in a mobile application is wayy simpler than publishing and hosting it in a website. Also, note that there are tons of websites that also offers the same thing.

Therefore, application like this is still better and would be best if published to be an open-sourced app. @OP, if you worry about gaining profit out of you project, such informative application shouldn't be your choice as you cannot have any clients to cover your costs. Better publish a donatable address in your app and website as well.

Hi dkbit98,

We offer years of carefully researched content and we both got an academic background in this field. Our app is not open source, but please note that we dont store any btc or offer any kind of wallet. We dont hold any funds.
Our monetization is through In-App-Purchases (Ad-free) and affiliate partners, which we declarate in the partners section.

Thanks for your reference to using other resources. Our distinction is precisely that we do not offer videos such as YouTuber. We are an app learning course.

Academic background in field of development or in field of crypto? The reason why people would prefer either website or an open-sourced application is that little code snippets can be a backdoor to one user's device -- which can be a way to access his storage and information within it. Making it open-source shouldn't be an issue especially if you doesn't have any sensitive code or functions on your application. If monetization would be the cause, it is fine to have a little ad banner yet expect that not everyone would be fond of it.

It is far a good application for the right purpose, and the website for the app adds up to the reputation and quality of the product. I'd suggest this to the others. But, have you considered making it a Progressive Web App? In that way, it can be used as a mobile application (in any platforms), website, and even a desktop app.

The reason we decided to go with an app is because we believe in the improved UX that an app provides. The features that a native app brings are much more user friendly and you have additional features like push notifications to motivate users to finish the course. The learning effect is increased immensely with an app. Apps like Duolingo prove this.

I know that a website is easier to use and that's why we also plan to develop a web app in the future.

Thank you very much for your comment. We would really like to release the app as an open source project. The problem is that I am very inexperienced with open source projects. I want to avoid the code being used by someone else who wants to create an app about some altcoin I don't want to support, for example. Is there any way to restrict the use of an open source code? You seem to know a lot about open source projects. I would really appreciate some advice.

We already have a donation link on the website in the footer. We may need to make this more prominent on the website.

Thanks a lot to everyone for your feedback!

We have an academic background in both development and crypto. Yes, I know that the user cannot be 100% secure with these permissions. If I can restrict the use of my code, I would move the project to open source. I will read up on the subject. If you have specific knowledge on the subject, let me know.

Thanks for recommending! Yeah I will think about a PWA. Thanks for the tip.

Apparently, it is really risky to make your app an open-source as it can be used, duplicated, and even re-released by many anonymous users (but less likely due to the fact that you can easily report them). You can read more of pros and cons of making an open-source program here[1]. Making it open-source would limit your capability of monetization, and would not let you have restrictions on to codes as well. But on the other side, if you would still do this as a start-up project, there's no lose with publishing it to be open-sourced.

Since this is just a mobile app, don't be bothered by the mistrust and doubts of people that doesn't want to risk downloading your app. I've already trusted this the time I saw you managed to upload this on Apple play store (which is a heck of security required for an app to be published). I won't insist for you to take the risk of making the back-end public. Either way, even anyone can still lookup on the codes of your app with Reverse Engineering. And yes, make your donation link/address prominent so that every visitor would know that no one is funding the development of your platform. Overall, Keep up the good work dude!

What you're trying to achieve here is a noble thing to do but having said that, although I didn't use it personally, I still didn't enjoy seeing a couple of its features:

  • INVESTMENT GUIDE
Find a smart solution to invest in bitcoin based on your acquired knowledge. We consult you in the choice of your wallet and a reputable company.
I'm going to repeat what I've said before when it comes to investment and BTCitcoins, and that's the fact that I really hate seeing both of these words in a single sentence...
    - A lot of people use BTCitcoin for the wrong reason and by doing so, they're undermining its real value.
  • ALTCOINS
Learn more about alternative cryptocurrencies such as Monero or Ethereum.
Not sure why there's a need for mentioning other cryptocurrencies in an app that was meant to educate its users about BTCitcoin.

I think it is very important to speak the language of newbies. If I tell them that Bitcoin is an investment, then more people will engage with it. If you take a look at our app, you will see that we want people to understand the idea behind Bitcoin and that it is much more than an investment.

It's very important to draw attention to the different projects. It's important that they understand the differences with other projects and why Bitcoin is so unique. If they don't learn it in our app, they might get wrong information from someone who just wants to sell something
