After stumbling upon another thread [with suggestions] in this board, I wanted to check if something similar was already part of the upcoming features but noticed that part is either inaccessible or no longer exist...

It's still listed in the Index part but it goes nowhere...
- It looks like someone has intentionally wiped that part.

There was another link [https://epochtalk.org/map.html] as well but it shows the following error:
- I did censor the last two lines.

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

<Error>
<Code>NoSuchKey</Code>
<Message>The specified key does not exist.</Message>
<Key>map.html</Key>
<RequestId>Censored</RequestId>
<HostId>Censored</HostId>
</Error>

Does anyone know why that part was taken down?
- I wouldn't mind if it was taken down due to being close to the implementation of Epochtalk Smiley

After a bit of snooping, it seems like the section was removed deliberately a while ago in a dedicated commit. I assume the reason is either the features were implemented or plans changed. The only definitive way of knowing why is probably asking the author of said commit.

Thank you for taking the time to look around [I appreciate it Smiley]. That explains why there was no content for the first link but IIRC, I did view the 2nd link sometime in 2020 and everything was still there [I could be wrong].

You're right. I'm still trying to find my way around Github but since he had no email in there, I only managed to find one from his blog.

I'll leave this thread open for now and whenever he responds, I'll update this thread...
- I did include this thread on my PM so maybe he'll respond directly here.

According to Cyrus on the bitcointalk party discord channel about seven weeks ago, it's being rewritten:

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, however, I believe the new forum software is complete, but there has been insufficient security/penetration testing for theymos to be comfortable using it for bitcointalk.

You're wrong. The software is not usable for bitcointalk in its current state and it has nothing to do with security. Recent features are not there, like the merit system - not even that recent, 3 years old now. BBCode is broken. Tons of other issues, some are being fixed but I don't see how it can catch up. It was said a couple of years ago that testing is a priority but I'm not aware of any serious QA effort.

Shouldn't it be much more effective and quicker if the testing was rolled out to members by migrating Bitcointalk to the new forum software?
Talking for myself, I am not technically gifted, but I could help identify a few glitches if I noticed any and right now all I see are few members who have some technical knowledge testing the software, making the whole process much slower. I believe there are hundreds of members in my position who could help if they changed the approach to testing the new forum software.

I mean, it's 2021, Bitcoin is almost worth $50K, and still the million dollar forum software isn't even close to ready?

Are you saying we should all start using untested incomplete forum software? I would vehemently disagree Smiley

If you're talking about a test site - there is at least one here: https://coinbistro.com/

And there are some members testing it and doing a great job at it but that's still not quite the coordinated managed QA effort that you should expect from a multi-million dollar project. There should be clearly defined goals, test plans, preferably professional testers with proper tools (randomly poking at a site can get you only so far), and a dev team willing and able to fix it. Supervised by someone with the experience and the leverage to pull it off.

I feel like I posted something similar a couple of years ago and we are still no closer to the finish line but I'll wait a couple more years to say "told you so". Still hoping for a miracle I guess.

Multi million when it was paid in bitcoin.  Probably a failed billion dollar project now.  :/

If security was an issue, then a bug bounty would be hosted I assume?

Anyhow, I was thinking about testing this out when I've got some free time Smiley

I was a bit off.  Assuming the BTC price was $350-$700 when a million dollars was transferred back in 2014, those unspent coins would be worth between $70 and $140 million today.    Not too shabby for a four person group.
