Well, good. That's what you are supposed to do. God speaks His word through the Bible.
Why do you have to read a book thousands of years old to listen to your god? I understand my god
intimately and written words mean nothing. What does your god sound like when he speaks from your book?
You don't. But if you don't read the Bible, you can't understand much of what you hear.
God spoke the universe into being, as recorded in Genesis. You can go outside, and look at the Earth, the clouds, the streams of water, and actually hear the word of God. But hearing this way is vague. You can tell that God is love, by the way he gives you food and water and clothing and shelter in the things of nature that He spoke into existence. But it is like somebody expressing himself by nodding his head, or by pointing off in the distance, or by smiling. This kind of talk is difficult to understand correctly. It's like hints.
God gave us His Word in Bible form so that we could get the meanings of important things in a direct way. The important things of nature that we can't understand clearly by simply looking at nature, are written down in the Bible, by God directing His special "hearers/listeners" what to write for us.
It's really a shame that some people are so willing to ignore or resist God talking to them.

The Bible is a record of the history of Ancient Israel. Certainly it isn't a detailed record, just like our court records don't tell us everything about everything going on in our country.
How do we know that God expressed His Word as the Bible? By the prophesies that His prophets made, and the fact that they were fulfilled... sometimes immediately, and sometimes years down the road... and some of them are even for our future.
One of the important prophesies for is found in the words of Jesus God, Mark 16:15,16:
15He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
While God wants everybody to be saved... 1 Timothy 2:3,4:
3This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
... He also wants people to not quarrel over their salvation or non-salvation, but to search for it peacefully... John 6:43,44:
43“Stop grumbling among yourselves,” Jesus answered. 44“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.
Just as Jesus expressed, I don't want to quarrel with you about this stuff. I totally accept that you want to believe something else. Certainly I WISH that you would be saved. But if you won't listen to the Father calling you thru the Holy Spirit, I'm happy that you made your choice as you wanted.
I believe that I have made the choice that will happen. I believe it from scientific study of the Bible, as well as the Holy Spirit directing my spirit and mind. However, we will only know it clearly when the prophesies are fulfilled one way or another regarding the truth, right?
