Hi,

I need to buy a laptop anyway and i saw an article that says that due to missing HI-END Gpu for regular computers,
Miners start using laptop.

I want to buy a laprop with GTX 1660Ti , And i have few qusetions :

1. In whattomine.com it gives 28Mh/s but is there a diffrance from laptop Gpu model to regular compuer ?
2. if the laptop says "180W AC Adapter" so it is maxed at 180w per hour
3. i calculated on www.cryptocompare.com according to our electric prices localy

Does my calculation and my assumption is correct ?

I mine on nicehash with 1660 Ti Acer Nitro 7. With +750 mem OC I get between 30.5-31MH/s.

The laptops is not going to pull 180 watts just because the adapter says thats what its rated for, it will only use what it needs. The GPU as reported in GPU-Z will max out its 80 watt TDP limit.

Real power consumption is probably something like 90-95 watts at the wall but Ive not measured it yet.

Its very profitable for me with roughly 9 cents per kwh electric. I use it with my 3080 gaming desktop to mine.

You are in total control of how your laptop performs when mining, what I mean is you can stay in 80-85watt range on a 1660ti when mining Ethereum, download msi afterburner and put power limit to 65% and safe the settings

1) There is no difference between the MH/s on a laptop vs a regular computer.

2) 180W means that the max power input is 180W but from the wall it can use over ~200Watts or so. To get a proper calculation you need a WattMeter and see how much its pulling while mining.

3) This is an estimate. Right now there are huge swings because price changes daily, difficulty changes daily and miner reward changes pretty much hourly depending on how full the memory pool is. Sometimes an ETH transaction is $1 other times its as high as $5. Hence your profitability differs alot throughout the day.

There's a big difference between laptop & desktop versions of the same GPU model.
Whattomine doesn't rate laptop models because it's not a good idea to mine with them.
They might have a power efficieby advantage but you're paying a premium price for
an inferiour product with a shortened life span due to the abuse of mining.

If you need to buy laptop for a work - laptop without mining GPU can cost really cheaper and it can be more profitable to buy laptop with low-lewel GPU.

Are you sure? The last i read that 30xx laptop versions gives hashrate lower that desktop?

Isn't mining on laptop a bit risky? I mean in a laptop you can't have the same cooling like with a desktop pc. I know the cooling is nice on laptops as well, I am just not sure if it won't cause troubles on long term for your laptop.

180 watts power consumption for a single gtx1660ti is way too much, it's like paying 2x electricity fee for the graphic card, a single gtx1660ti max mining power shouldn't exceed 80 to 83 watts, I have six of these cards all none reach 84 watts when mining, the trick is lower power draw to 65% using msi afterburner, you don't need that massive power to mine successfully on a gtx1660ti

180W adapter does not mean the laptop will use it.

180W adapter does not mean the laptop will use it.
A graphic card can draw high watts power at lower hashrates without any tweaking, on my 1660super it draws 120 watts trying to mine Ethereum @ 20MH per second until I lower the core voltage and the power limit down to 62% then power draw is back to 80watts

On a laptop? Yeah right!

Take a look at this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VC3f-5Agdpc
From the comments:
Quote
Power is 88 without screen and 95 with screen on.

The laptop power adapter has to supply enough power for the laptop to work AND the battery to charge at the same time.

All mining have risks, and laptops are no exception. And besides that, it's less profitable to actually do so since the computing power is lower than on a PC.

If I have to mine with a laptop it's going to be a high end gaming laptops like those from msi and alienware because they have good coolers and heat sinks, they are well built to handle massive and intense workload and gaming, mining on such laptops won't be a problem
