Greedy makes them easily scammed.

Something that would be useful for someone like me, who hasn't taken part in any IPO, is if someone went through most of the past IPOs and broke down the profit, or lack of profit, for each one.

It probably would be impossible to do for all of the IPOs ever offered here, but if a reference number could be calculated, it could be useful. Such as how many IPOs resulted in coins selling for a greater price than IPO at launch (or shortly thereafter), how many IPOs made a profit, but only after longterm holding, and how many failed completely. And how many were complete scams where the developers ran away with the money and didn't give any coins at all.

For the majority of cases, it seems like people would just be better off skipping the IPOs and buying coins on the market instead.

If the dev teams would do their homework and have actual legal backing like, being incorporated, having a business plan, having a marketing plan; you know what, lots of plans are what it really takes for anything involving investment/labor to actually be worth the money/effort. Plans are a way to assuage potential financial backers that their investment in you is actually meritable, esp at first glance.  I can tell whether I will invest in a coin within minutes of me reading the Pre-ANN or ANN.  If cryptocoin dev teams are not professional out of the gate, I'm sorry, but other coin dev teams are, and I trust them more with my money and mining.    There is way too many low effort coins out there.  Devs should be stars on these coin teams, esp out of the gate.  Plans are a way for backers, fans, new dev/marketing/etc teams, dev teams from other coins to get up to speed on what the coin's vital stats are.

TL;DR give me a lotta plans and talkative devs who can coherently articulate their vision, and then execute said vision competently.

I have been involved in 4 IPOs and made money on three of them.  I have probably doubled my money.

I stay away from scammy looking coins or coins without some innovative features.  I won't touch things like stackcoin or promethium.

Not all IPOs are bad.  I think a lot of people are careless and get caught up by the hype some IPO developers generate.

Do you normally sell off some of the coins from an ipo as soon as a decent profit can be made, or did you hold them a long while?

And what do you think of ethereum's ipo?

As one of the devs of Edgecoin I see your frustration with some of the past IPOs. However, begging people to redistribute their IPO money to you isn't going to solve the problem.

Because a large percentage of people of the world are born Americans.

And a large % of the people of the world do not have big enough brains to realize that when unknown people ask for money, they may never return it back to you.

Because most of the people are stupid. They don't investigate before they invest. They deserve to be scammed anyway.
