It is clear Serena Williams is desperate to win her 24th singles Grand Slam but she always finds a determined opponent in the way either before she reaches the final or when she actually gets there.
Her 23rd singles Grand Slam win came in the Australian Open in 2017 when she her sister Venus. Since then she made 4 more singles Grand Slam finals. Back in 2018 and in 2019 she made Wimbledon and US Open finals and in 2019 but lost all 4 of those finals. In 2020 she made the semi-final of the US Open and in 2021 (so far) she made the semi-final of the Australian Open.
Serena may have won 23 singles Grand Slams but she also lost 10 singles Grand Slam finals too. Since 2016 Serena has been in 8 singles Grand Slam finals but she lost 6 and won only 2.
With Osaka, Barty, Halep and several others around she will find it difficult to equal Margaret Court who holds a record 24 singles Grand Slams.
I didn't expect the direct set winning from Osaka. I expected strong fight between the two, fortunately from the beginning Osaka kept her lead and won the game with ease. For Serena Williams it is big blow in her history of missing grandslam title. In her press meet too, she fell into tears as she wasn't able to accept the loss against Osaka. With the game played by Osaka, I too believe Australian open title is for Osaka.
