Hello hello,

I am new to the forum, and come with a question. A few years back, I paid for some Ethereum mining and got just under .5 ETC deposited to a wallet. It has since shot up in price and I am looking to access it once again.

All I have is my wallet address, and a possible idea of how I signed up the wallet - I'm pretty sure it may have been through MyEtherWallet.

When using a wallet app such as Trust, I am able to view the wallet but cannot send as it is watch-only. Can anyone help me reset my wallet password or figure out a way to get back into it?

Thank you so much in advance!

Welcome to the forum,

Did you write down the mnemonic phrase, back up the private key of the address or save the encrypted json file anywhere in your device?
If you did not, then you are out of lucky. There is no way you will be able to access the Ether

I think I may have the keystore but the problem is that it is saved on my phone as a text string. How would I convert that to a json or otherwise use it to get back in?

I would like you to confirm

When you open the file using a text viewer or editor, Does it look like this; Please note that this is just an example of a text string of an encrypted private key in the Keystore file

Code:
{"version":3,"id":"3800a2da-7ab3-4f5b-9a9c-2728e0750054","address":"5aaeaf4469cb0b2e18d8655f27cd7f1cf25c16fa","crypto":{"ciphertext":"59d0421fcf759a3d220008bc089af46e3ce97fc1f08579b150c3e0196626c8a3","cipherparams":{"iv":"fa74808025c02769df9a429509d2be37"},"cipher":"aes-128-ctr","kdf":"scrypt","kdfparams":{"dklen":32,"salt":"9443d3f0640fac0166d281c336cc3337e7f8a90e5b5be03e32070580c3fd4abd","n":131072,"r":8,"p":1},"mac":"eec0c0d4c1b70593224acf79f8eca00f3560c2522201f17abdae1b7ad12f242c"}}

If yes, then all you need to remember now is your password.

Yes, it does. The problem is I don't recall the password for the file. Is there some way I can crack my own password? I've already tried a handful of ones that I use frequently

EDIT: I was able to log in! the problem now, is that I'm trying to send the ETH and it's saying I dont "have enough to send", what the hell does that mean?

Really, You finally remembered your password? That's very awesome if you did  Smiley

Have you tried to check the address through a block explorer like etherscan.io to see if indeed that's the address that has Ether?
Please check and confirm if there's 0.5 ETH in it.

Edit:
Wait a minute, is it ETH or ETC (Ethereum Classic)? Your original post talks of ETC which have just realized right now.

Yes, for sure! I have 0.4495512185 ETH, and I'm trying to send it to a new wallet. I have a new question, is "gwei" the transaction fee now? and if I have it set to an extremely low value (say only 1 Gwei) will that mean it will take a long time to get to a new wallet?

Yeah Gwei is the unit of Ether. Just like satoshi or mBTC is to bitcoin. So it's a measure of gas fees you are supposed to pay for your transaction to be confirmed.
Right now Ethereum's fees are on a high so if you want your transaction to be confirmed quicker use this site to determine the optimal fees: https://ethgasstation.info/

130 Gwei (0.00273 ETH ~ $5) should be ok right now. 1 Gwei could take a very long time.

Gwei is a unit usually used for gas price and equals to 10-9 ETH.

The transaction fee in calculated as follows.
Fee = Used Gas * Gas price

For an Ethereum transaction (a transaction without any token involved), 21,000 unit of gas is used.
So, the transaction fee (in ETH) is 21,000 * Gas price (in gwei) * 10-9.

Paying low fees in Ethereum - Gas Limit, Gas Price and Gwei
What is Ethereum gas?
Gwei - Ethereum

You can check and find the optimal gas price for your need and try to know steps to cancel or replace your transactions.
