Electrum 4.0.9 can't send funds...

Hello all,

I just upgraded my Electrum to the newest 4.0.9 and now when I try to send funds it won't let me for some reason. I have tested the receive funds and that works just fine, but when I go to send it says "Not enough funds" even though there is plenty in the wallet. Is this a bug in the new version or maybe something else? I was able to send just fine in the earlier version but now I can't. Thanks in advance for any help on this!

EDIT: I also tried installing on a different PC and importing my wallet...Same problem with 4.0.9

Check your transaction again.  The only time I've ran into that issue is when the fees are so high, that they're more than coins available in the wallet or the specific UTXO you're trying to spend.

No transaction went through...Because of the "Not enough funds" I couldn't even put in my password to complete the transaction. But I did check to make sure and no transaction shows. Also when I was trying I set the fees slider in different positions to to see if that was the problem...from lowest to the midway point. Still nothing.

why not try to use the older version of electrum to make this transaction? still using the 4.0.5 ver as am too lazy to install the newer one. dont encounter any prob.
i dont understand why it is showing not enough funds. maybe the fees is too high as DireWolf said above.

Where did you download electrum from? Did you download it from electrum.org?

Is your balance shown correctly?
You can see your balance in the bottom left corner of the window.

Is your wallet synced?
Is the circle located in the bottom right corner of the window green?

Yes sir to all three. Everything is normal except the send function.

Older version was taken out when the new version installed. I didn't see a download for past versions on electrum.org....unless I missed it.

Are you using TrustedCoin 2FA? Electrum 4.0.9 is working perfectly fine for me. Did you freeze any of the inputs as well?

You just received those BTC?
Can you please open blockchain.com and insert your transaction ID in the search field. Do you see "unconfirmed transaction" or is the transaction already confirmed?

You cannot send coins if the deposit is not confirmed yet! THis might be the problem. As the network is congested, your coins might have not been confirmed yet.

If you click "max" after pasting an address in the send tab, is the amount getting auto-filled?
If "0" and you have positive balance, then it must be what ranochigo said, you must have frozen an address or coin.
To check that, open "Addresses" tab ('View->Show Addresses' to enable the tab) and "Coins" tab  (View->Show Coins), look for entries with blue highlight.
Frozen coins will have the highlight under "Output point", not the address.

To unfreeze them, use "right-click->Unfreeze Coin/Address".

You cannot send coins if the deposit is not confirmed yet! THis might be the problem. As the network is congested, your coins might have not been confirmed yet.

That may be an issue if he changed the settings in both PC,
Electrum will default with "spend only confirmed coin" disabled, that will enable new users to spend unconfirmed UTXO.
@Jeffro64 if you've ticked that particular setting and the coin is unconfirmed, disable it to be able to send now.

I have the same issue. I was using the portable version of 3.3.6 and just downloaded the portable version of 4.09. Now my balance shows correctly but I am unable send to more than about half of what's in the wallet. It seems like the funds that were there before I upgraded can be sent but nothing that has been sent afterwards can be sent. I tried to download another version of the portable, 4.05 and it won't even open the wallet, just gives incorrect password even though I tried 100 times and know the password and it opens right up in 4.09. Also tried the standalone exe, same thing. Balance shows correct but can't send more than what was in the wallet before upgrade.

Wallet is synced and I validated that the transactions were confirmed on the blockchain.

It was just one of those things that it worked. So didn't upgrade because I was worried about breaking it. Soon as I upgraded, it broke.

I've gone through this list and it unfortunately didn't provide any solutions. I have $167 in the wallet, and it shows that as the balance, however max send only wants to send around $85. I can't imagine there is that much fees. I have checked and don't have any frozen addresses or coins.

I also validated the transactions do show as confirmed on the blockchain.

The transaction fee isn't fixed in dollar and doesn't depend on the amount of bitcoin you send.
The transaction fee depends on number of inputs and outputs and your addresses type (legacy, nested segwit and native segwit, multi-sig). It also depends on network congestion and how fast you want your transaction to be confirmed.

There's a high probability that you have received the fund in several transactions and now you are combining all of them in a single transaction. If that's the case, you have many inputs and your transaction has a big size.

Is your wallet legacy or segwit? (Legacy addresses start with 1, nested segwit addresses start with 3 and native segwit addresses start with bc1)
Aren't you using a 2FA wallet?

I see, I didn't realize the complexity of the fee structure. Still seems like a big amount though if that's the case. 

I checked and it looks like they are legacy addresses. Hmm. I use a password to get into the wallet and to send funds. I guess I did use 2fa to get these funds. Like I have 2fa turned on for the exchange they were purchased from originally, then i sent to this wallet.

I also see that when I look at the addresses and sort by balance, 2 of them are "receiving" and the other 6 are "change" type.
So if this is a fee/legacy wallet issue, what would be the best way to get the most coin possible to a new proper wallet?

you don't have a 2fa wallet btw. 2fa at an exchange does not mean a 2fa electrum wallet.

When you press the 'Pay ...' button, try selecting 'Advanced'; Then try setting the 'Target fee' amount manually until the 'Finalize' button becomes active and clickable. Then select 'Sign' and 'Broadcast' your transaction.
I suggest you check the Replace by fee option.

If you send the total balance to another address, there won't be any change and your transaction will have only 1 output. In this case, the transaction size would be about 1220 vbyte.

You already stated that your balance is 167 dollar and you can send only 85 dollar. This means paying 82 dollar (0.00175 BTC) as transaction fee.
So, the fee rate was around 142 sat/byte when you were trying to send the fund.

If you want a fast confirmation, you have to pay this fee. If not, set the fee rate to lower amounts and just wait for your transaction to be confirmed.

For example, if you set the fee rate to 10 sat/byte, you will pay about 0.000122 BTC (5.7 dollar) as transaction fee. But your transaction won't be confirmed fast. (It may be confirmed at the weekends. It's possible that it takes longer time.)

If you set the fee rate to at least 10 sat/byte, you will be able to use ViaBTC free accelerator to increase the chance of confirmation.

However, I would strongly recommend you don't blindly download old versions unless you are 100% sure of what you're doing... and you have a very good reason for rolling back to a previous version.

Honestly, it sounds like you have 8 inputs and would be creating a fairly "large" transaction from a "data size" point of view. Given how ridiculously busy the network is, and how high fees are currently, it wouldn't surprise me that the default fee estimation in Electrum is struggling with calculating a decent fee.  There are countless users on these forums at the moment with "stuck transactions"... there are over 100k unconfirmed transactions at the moment

Look at https://mempool.space/ and https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#BTC,24h and https://bitcoiner.live/?confidence=0.9 to get a feel for the best rates to use for fees and choose one appropriate to your requirements (ie. higher for more chance of getting fast confirmation... lower if you don't care about confirmation time and want to send cheaply)
