reinstalled mycelium and restored with seed phrase, but no tx history or funds

Hey guys,

So about three months ago I reinstalled Mycelium to retrieve some funds I had almost given up on (my father and I had purchased some btc a few years prior but misplaced our seed-phrases).

To my surprise when I restored my wallet with the seed phrase the amount showed 0.00 btc and there were no transactions shown. I checked a few times after in disbelief and nothing was showing up, no funds no tx's.

 Last week I figured i would try having a look again and suddenly the funds and tx history was there! I quickly sent my funds elsewhere and felt relieved.

Now I'm trying to restore my father's wallet with a his seed phrase and am dealing with the same problem again, zero funds shown and no tx history. Is there something I can do other than hope and wait it suddenly shows up? Is this a common problem?

I should note that in the time I waited for my funds to magically appear I just had the app on my Iphone, did not delete & reinstall. we both used the Iphone app.

The reason you did not see it before was because your wallet has not yet synchronized or fully synchronize with the blockchain, you will need to make sure you have good internet connection, and that the wallet has fully synchronized with the blockchain next time.

Make sure the wallet synchronize and have good internet. Hope your father did not extent his seed with passphrase? If the seed phrase is correct and not extended with extra words, you should see the fund. I will advice you to install mycelium on Android, or electrum preferably on computer, but can also be installed on Android too, import the seed phrase and check if the bitcoin appear.

Wallet synchronization on mycelium android is a known issue before, though I'm not experiencing it lately.

In your case, you only need to do is to wait until it sync, just open the app with pin and let it run in background, if your funds are still on that wallet probably you can still get it, you just need to wait.

A synchronization issue seems very plausible to me.

You might want to try to use a different wallet (e.g. electrum) on your PC.
Import your mnemonic code (the 12/24 words) into electrum when creating a new wallet by choosing "i already have a seed phrase".
Then, when entering the mnemonic code, make sure to check "BIP 39" in the options. The rest should be straight forward.

Hopefully you'll see your coins in electrum within a minute then.

Mycelium seems to be suffering from sync issues more and more frequently... additionally:

The iPhone version was effectively "abandoned" for quite a while and lags a long way behind the Android version in terms of features and usability...

While it is now receiving updates (most recent was Jan 9 2021), you might want to consider trying a different wallet on iOS and see if you can import your Mycelium 12 word seed backup into that.
