Musk has been in limelight from past year from gaining huge wealth and becoming richest person on the planet with net worth of $200 billion surpassing Jeff Bezos. This happened due to instant rise in Tesla share prices and Elon became socially active on crypto related tweets promoting Dogecoin to insane pumps and adding Bitcoin in his bio.But on the other hand he is associated with some scams also not done by him but by hackers in his name like vanity address scam I mentioned here Vanity address scam to the latest ones.

New scam which has been done in his name is A Germany man lost Bitcoins worth 4 crores by depositing them on fake deposit address mentioned on Musk twiiter which was done by hacker.

The man deposited on fake address to double his Bitcoins in 30 minutes time frame without even realising that it is clear scam. Why would Musk announce such a giveaway? People just got eroded away with the greed and ends up loosing all their money. We need to first recheck everything before doing such stupid acts and act wisely.

New scam which has been done in his name is A Germany man lost Bitcoins worth 4 crores by depositing them on fake deposit address mentioned on Musk twiiter which was done by hacker.
What is a crore, this was a scam a few months back when all the twitter accounts were hacked and it has nothing to do with Musk even though his social media account was used to carry out the scam. Twitter should take the responsibility because their security was not up to the point and they failed big time.

Why would anyone think that you are able to double the amount of money by sending your money, how dumb you need to be to fall for these scams and if he invested in bitcoin he should be aware that the transactions are not reversible and even if your best buddy ask you to send the coins you will not do that let alone a stranger in social media even if he is a billionaire .

I hope this doesn't sound mean but if a guy actually deposits money to some address he sees on Twitter, then he deserves to lose that money. The only person I'd send money to if asked is my family and even then I'd check with them first that they really asked me for it:)

Elon is not my favorite guy but surely you can't blame him for this scam?

This seems to be the TX behind the case:
https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/transaction/22eb0c127cf24a932d2713e8bd766e418355ad1f07ee2642a16e07bd91e01f93

The 10 BTCs (better expressed in BTCs than in Crores) that the person gave to the scammers. happened on the 21/02/2021, so the news has taken some time to spread.

In fact, the recipient BTC address, 1CGLAmPruZxpPzjJj8ACEEWdVoh2Y5dSuq, is listed on the BitcoinAbuse database (https://www.bitcoinabuse.com/reports/1CGLAmPruZxpPzjJj8ACEEWdVoh2Y5dSuq) as been tied to another concurrent fake giveaway site. The scammer likely used a similar method with a couple of sites in order to keep it running as long as possible.

Edit: the image on this article depicts better how the scam took place: https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-56402378
(notice the fake twitter account answering on Musk's twitter thread, redirecting people to one of his scam sites).

Since I can see that people are not understanding the case properly, here's the image:

Elon Musk is not a scammer. Twitter is his personal space and he can write anything on this twitter profile / bio. He never wrote in this profile to buy bitcoin and dogecoin. If people start buying dogecoin after seeing his tweets, then its people mistake who do not think before investing and blindly invest in a shit coin like dogecoin.

But that doesn't mean that he can just post scam which he didn't do, this was an attack I can't remember when but a lot of big names in Twitter were hacked and they all promoted some kind of doubling scheme which many thought were true because the accounts were a verified users and they have a lot of followers so they assume that it is true, this story is an old tale about making sure that you don't take anything a celebrity or an influencer blindly.

It is very sad to read each time that another has fallen victim to another internet fraud. But come to think of it, why do people keep falling for schemes like this? There is really no easy way to make money and people around us should be made to understand.

This is a classic scam, we can't blame Elon Musk here or his popularity in crypto. Unfortunately the person who lost money has no idea bout crypto scams, it's easy to detect it is a scam with the "double your money" scheme. His greediness made him lost bitcoin, hopefully it's not that much though.

It's not that Elon Musk is a scammer, criminals are using his name and take advantage because he is such a big influential specially now that this company has invested billions into bitcoin. The thing is that people, most of the time are greedy and thinks that this billionaire are just giving up free money.

As the saying goes, "if its too good to be true, probably is". If everyone will just use their common sense, no one will fall for this kind of scheme.

Well! Elon is not a scammer here! So update the thread tilte to clear any confusion. These are hackers who are making use of Elon's status in the crypto market. Since he has become a great support in bitcoin for the global audience, hackers are using the same in their favor.

I don't see this issue to resolve anytime soon, especially with the psuedo anonymity bitcoin provides by default. Hackers will find their way into scamming greedy people!

I am not trying to defame the image of Elon Musk and has no such intentions but what I actually was trying to say that one more scam has been initiated in the name of Musk which obviously was not done by Tesla CEO Elon Musk but his name was used to fool the people in such scams by hackers. He is famous and some pseudonym groups are using his Indentity to steal from people. That was my main explanation nothing else.So I am going to update the title to clear any further confusions.

Are still some people who are falling with that kind of scams?
It's already 2020, those scams in Twitter are already aged if you are already in Twitter before especially on cryptocurrency part.

But we can't blame newbies for falling to it, they are extremely vulnerable to these kinds of scams.

I wonder what about doubling your money up to 1 million USD doesn't sound fishy at all?

Especially when a person is lacking with finances and is financially illiterate, unfortunately things like this can easily blind some people with a chance of an easy way out of poverty.

In this case though? I don't have a single idea. My guess is just that this dude probably received a huge inheritance hence the immense carelessness.

These scam giveaways usually target less informed/educated people involved some way in crypto, since it should look like an obvious scam attempt no matter how you look at it.

The real question these people should ask themselves before participating in such giveaways is: why would people in that position need you to make a deposit to send you more?, and these social platforms lack of proper security is not helping these scams either, and sometimes even the official account of known people gets compromised and used for such activities, like what happened to Twitter 1-1.5 year/s ago which led to many scam giveaway tweets being sent in mass by verified accounts.

i personally knew people who had invested in doublers, i couldn't even advise them to avoid it because they are pretty much excited when hearing about a new site and they spread it quickly as well before it shutdown and i mean they wanted to be the first to deposit. despite me teaching them to go here in bitcointalk to learn what people are saying, it's me that is seen as outsider of their own bitcoin community.

how odd could it be that you deposit and you hope a 100% return. even if it's the real Elon musk will promise that i wouldn't send a satoshi.

If a man is gullible enough to send some money on the way of ANYONE, even if that is Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos or Jesus himself, in exchange for double their deposit, then they deserve to lose their money. Not that I'm saying that what happened is okay but sometimes people need to exercise caution in doing such things and not get controlled by greed. This isn't the first time the name of a famous person is used in such a scheme, and will probably not be the last.
