One of my local guy mistakenly sent a token from Bep20 to a coinbase address of ERC20. He used trust wallet to send the token. Now, as far as I know his tokens are lost forever. I don’t know any way of recover the token. I anyone of you knows, please tell me the process.

Only Coinbase can help him. I wouldn't get my hopes too high, though... His only shot is probably if Coinbase ever starts supporting BEP20 in the future ( source).

Unfortunately, Coinbase didn't support an error like this and it might be lost forever because they had different networks, the ERC20 under Ethereum network and the Bep20 under the Binance Smart Chain network. The same thread on the other forum and this was the reply of Coinbase support. Because BEP-2 is a Binance Chain standard we are unable to support it.
While we cannot recover funds sent to Coinbase using BEP-2 at this time, if Coinbase ever decides to add the BEP network to our platform, please let us know then so we can see if the funds would be recoverable at that time. Just try to contact them if they now support the Bep20 BSC network, since that thread was 4 months ago.

So, before that there’s no way. Also as coinbase support isn’t good, and it will require a manual interfere, I think the same. Just looking for possible way to recover if any. Thank you anyway. Hope they will start supporting Bep20 later on. And if they support Bep20, no manual interfere is necessary I think? I mean Coinbase will automatically update the fund?

BEP2 is not BEP20, for BEP20, it is compatible with both BEP2 and ERC20. The coin is not lost, he should contact coinbase customer care. If assuming a noncustodial wallet is used, it will be easy to recover back the token. https://academy.binance.com/en/glossary/bep-20?amp=1BEP-20 is a token standard on Binance Smart Chain that extends ERC-20, the most common Ethereum token standard. You can think of it as a blueprint for tokens that defines how they can be spent, who can spend them, and other rules for their usage. Due to its similarity to Binance Chain’s BEP-2 and Ethereum’s ERC-20, it’s compatible with both.

Yep, the token is recoverable. The question is, can coinbase support cooperate and help the user? Nope, i highly doubt the will help him. In fact, I haven't seen a case where anyone was helped to recover their wrongly sent tokens, even if they were recoverable.

Thank for the clarification and I thought before they are the same because they are all under on Binance smart chain. But the problem here is on Coinbase's side, that they don't support the Bep20 token that under on Binance chain, as they said on the Reddit support, " we are unable to support it". I hope too that they will support regarding issue because I saw the same cases like OP said. There's nothing you can do is to contact them and wait for the result, you might also scan your Bep20 token if there it's a Coinbase address where you sent the Bep20 token using Binance Smart Chain Explorer. Please update us OP once your friend recovered his Bep20 token.

The question is, can coinbase support cooperate and help the user? Maybe, because we can never predict the future. If coinbase sees the enthusiasm of network users is very high, then they will also consider and support bep20, in my opinion. Nope, i highly doubt the will help him. In fact, I haven't seen a case where anyone was helped to recover their wrongly sent tokens, even if they were recoverable.
When coinbase agree to support the bep20 token, users will be able to recover their asset. I agree many user error in this are not tolerated by the service. This is a common mistake of cryptocurrency users and they have approved of it. OP, I hope your friend doesn't mind this time if the number of token sent isn't a large number, so he could lose them forever.

This is a very common mistakes by users that know little about cryptocurrencies, also ERC20, BEP2 and BSC supported on the same wallet make things more complex and difficult to understand by newbies, I even made the mistake sometimes in February 2020 but I was able to recover mine because I use a noncustodial wallet that I have its private key. This is one of the reason exchanges and custodial wallets should not be used, because using noncustodial wallet will guarantee the full recovery of the token.

It may happen because he/she thought that the wallet is similar because started with o 0x.. For some people, they may be confused to differentiate the wallet, moreover if they don't know about the types of the network itself. They may consider that it is the same and they chose the one that has lower fees (Yeah BEP20/BSC has a lower fee than ERC20). It is better to contact the addressing exchange (Coinbase) and also Trustwallet support to ensure whether the token is still on the Trustwallet or has been in Coinbase. And actually, this can be recovered, but maybe needs more time to wait for the transaction back to him. Btw, It also ever happened to a person in my country. I ever read about this similar case about a month ago in a telegram group of Tokocrypto. So, at that time, he sent using BEP20 (BSC) to an ERC20 wallet in an exchange (I forget about what exchange, Kucoin or Coinbase). This may happen because he assumed that the address is similar because it starts with 0x........ He contacted the two exchanges, the answer from the addressing exchange will be: "There is no such transaction in the wallet yet", the token is not in their wallet network. and then Tokocrypto support informed that they can help him to recover the token, but it needs about several months (I don't know exactly). Just tell your friends to contact the two exchanges both Coinbase and also Trustwallet and be patient about it, hopefully, the exchanges will help your friends and it can be really recovered.

HELLO, help me understand my problem. How do I send an "EQL" token to the Binance Dex exchange for trading? EQL I have on Trust Wallet and they are in ERC20, I can not send to bmb wallet, I read that it needs to be done through Binance Bridge? That's the problem. As far as I understand I need to somehow send EQL-ERC20 to EQL-BEP2? But I don't know how. There is no opportunity for error in token delivery on the two different types of networks. You can try, but the private key of each wallet is different.
It's a shame that BEP20 and ERC20 have wallets that are almost the same in the initial characters. I think everyone has ever felt confused about the wallet that was prepared. So that the occurrence of errors in transferring assets is also difficult to avoid.
Hope Binance starts thinking about this with the aim of making it easier for users to differentiate between wallets on the two different networks that are currently popular.

I am not sure the bridging is possible in Trust wallet but you can convert your ERC20 tokens into Bep20 via metamask. First you need to connect your wallet with Metamask extension then select the coin and choose bridging then you can send to the desired BSC address.

BEP20 and ERC20 are two different networks, which at first glance look very similar in their addresses. in fact, every Exchange always pays attention to always be careful in sending tokens because even a little mistake we can lose everything. in this case I'm not sure your coin will survive. but don't despair. I hope Coinbase has the answer so that your coins are safe. regard

In here we see the clear consequences of not having enough knowledge about what you do, specially in this industry. I hope that guy you know learns from this well and does his best in the future to avoid the same mistake or anything of the sort. I say this because it is highly impossible for that guy as of this moment to get back those assets since the two are entirely different networks and I highly doubt that support team/personnel would give that much attention to such problems since it clearly is an outcome of your guy's carelessness. Just tell him not to throw away the keys though because who knows? Maybe in the coming months or years, they may do something about this.

This is another reason why centralised wallets sucks, if that ETH address is from trust wallet or meta mask you will only need to add BSC network to your wallet, now only coinbase can help you, when you tell them to stay away from centralised wallets like coinbase they won't listen

It's more of being undisciplined instead of lacking knowledge, as far as I know this two network has the same address format, even if you're so proficient in crypto you can make such mistake, also this kind of thing happened to those coin that hardforked from btc as well. tbh this not gonna be a big deal if his friend has the private key to the address he sent the token, problem is, the centralized system that exchange has usually very complicated and the privkey most likely saved somewhere along with other hundred thousand address. but i'm sure if the exchange put enough effort it's retrievable, but it also depends whether that gonna incur loss to the exchange or not for undergoing such complicated process.

In personal wallet, the address for ERC20 and BEP20 is usually the same, but I dont know about address in Coinbase because I dont have account there. To avoid this mistake again, for the better always send any tokens/coins twice, first try to send with small amount, and after successfully then send all remaining tokens. This is safe way to avoid wrong address.

He is talking about the exchange not the coinbase wallet, if I am not wrong. So either you hold the coins forever or choose the DEX where there is no liquidity for most coins when you don't want to use centralized exchanges ever. By the way this thread doesn't need further discussion!

just had made a mistake like this, sent 500 USD as BEP20 to an ERC20 address.
This is really my fault, did a previous BEP20 transaction (way cheaper than ERC20) and when doing this one did not realise I had by default the BEP20 still activated
It is already complicated to understand all the different cryptos, now on top the different networks where they operate. This is why people turn away from crypto
