At the end of the session, I introduced most of them to Bitcoin, and some of them even took the address of an exchange from me to buy some Bitcoin! This is the power of Bitcoin.

You too can invite more people into this digital world by talking. Wink
I'm also happy to share your experiences here.
I might not able to reach out that certain extent of introducting bitcoin to other people but somehow i did able to explain some basics into my family and my friends about it.
Tell them about the basics and if they do interact and show up some interest then explain even further on what it is and the most important is to explain up its
Pro's and con's because this is where people should really know about not just on expecting the positive side because we know on how risky it is when
it comes to investment matters. As long they are much aware of it then i dont see any problems for them to proceed on.

...
I started by saying that bitcoin is expanding and that big governments are looking for bitcoin, and that the price of bitcoin has grown tremendously over the last few years. But professors who disagreed pointed out that bitcoin does not even have strong backing! Bitcoin is like something that does not exist, and people leave their capital in the hands of those who control the market.
...

Those who think bitcoin does not have strong backing is because they don't understand how the blockchain works, all the machines that are involved and all the people who is ready to pay for it. The main backing from bitcoin is the beauty of maths who empowers the technology. We don't need to backup bitcoin with gold or with money, the code by itself is the strongest way to backup bitcoin. So, in other words, if you understand all the backend you will realize to things: 1.-bitcoin comes to stay with us, 2.-There is not enough money to evaluate the most expensive idea of all times.

And when they say 'Bitcoin is like something that doesn't exist' should try to say the same about the Internet or Operative Systems. Grin

Being a speaker and standing as an individual to talk about Bitcoin is already a great opportunity to be given to let other people know what Bitcoin really based on the perception and real experience from an individual who is using Bitcoin and engaged into it by himself. It is so nice that the OP have been given this opportunity because such talks can educate and let other people better know and understand the reality about Bitcoin a far from what other people are talking about against it. Hearing out a talk from a person who uses it is like a testimony to prove what is the essence of Bitcoin existence and the benefits that can be gained from it. Hearing out such talks is a good start to let other people know about it and be encouraged to know more and the best is that they might be able to let themselves got engaged into Bitcoin right after hearing out such talks.

Happy to know that.
I also try to introduce people about cryptocurrency.
But, have you also told about the risks of Bitcoin? Sometimea, it is imprtant because to enaure that the people are reasy enough to get into Bitcoin. They must enter the bitcoin not because only following or get FOMO. I think it is also important to share the risks and profits and let them know. It is to mi inize to be blamed when they lose their money in Bitcoin.

Providing education is not just the positive things that are conveyed, but the negative things or the risks that bitcoin has must also be explained. That way those beginners you introduce to bitcoin will know the limitations of the risks. If they don't know about the risks, then this will be very dangerous. If you have provided education on the advantages and disadvantages of bitcoin and some of the risks, losing money in bitcoin is not your responsibility and it is entirely your personal responsibility.

I know it's one of the hardest jobs you can do because it really has something to do with money and you are in the middle of doubts to tell some words especially when the market is not looking good. Sometimes the atmosphere is not the same because these guys don't want to put their money into something that has no guarantee. so you need to explain to them how it really works at the same time without carrying the guarantor when something happens in the market because if something bad happened, they will run to you and ask for some explanation about the recent event whether it's good or bad. Nevertheless, you should explain it all to them from the volatility to the bull-run so that you will not get any bad comments when the market is not look good.

I appreciate what the opening post has done by introducing Bitcoin in universities, especially to debate with professors at the university.
It takes courage and good enough knowledge, so that Bitcoin can be well received by people who don't understand Bitcoin. I have also tried
several times to introduce Bitcoin to other people who are not familiar with Bitcoin and ended in failure. Because it is not easy to convince
others that Bitcoin is a good thing for human life. Moreover, many people have gotten the wrong information about Bitcoin from incompetent
sources. We have to be patient in introducing Bitcoin, we cannot force other people to like and use Bitcoin. Our job is only to convey the truth
about Bitcoin, and the problem of other people whether to accept it or not is not in our authority.

Very good. I think university is the right place to discuss bitcoin, because that is a place where people are going to learn, discover new things. Students and professors are open minded about innovations such as bitcoin. But in another trivial places I'm fearful about spreading words of adoption because not everyone is opened to this idea and some people can understand it in a wrong way, as they were going to become rich overnight. Consequently if something goes bad with their investments, they will blame me for telling them about bitcoin.

Consequently if something goes bad with their investments, they will blame me for telling them about bitcoin.

This is what I am afraid about most of the time since there's just too much illiterate regarding financials.

But in my opinion, that mentality of "They will blame me so it's better I just keep it to myself" is kind of bad if you only introduce Bitcoin and didn't give any financial advice. To start, they don't have the right to blame you since it's their decision to buy Bitcoin and they took the risk.

I also talked about bitcoin with my family and friends and let's accept the fact that not all of them will become interested and believe on it.

People nowadays will not believe on something without proof because they only think about the reality, the tangible things. We all know that bitcoin is a virtual currency with a good value in the market and I want to tell other people that we are now evolving and engaging into a more technological age where digitals are more popular and useful.

Hoping that some universities will inform or implement subjects about cryptocurrencies so that those curious college students will have an idea about it.

Its usage as a currency will decrease as years go by. The more a Bitcoin will cost, the higher the no. of owners it will be and the higher the no. of customers, the more congested the mempool will be. All in all, I don't see daily usage as a selling point of Bitcoin since as far as it looks, the situation of Bitcoin payments is only getting worse in time.

Actually the congestion seems to get worse not necessarily by the number of owners or the the price, instead because of the price variations.
Everything gets awful when the price does big changes and the mempool starts clearing up when the price stays at low variation / boring.

Hoping that some universities will inform or implement subjects about cryptocurrencies so that those curious college students will have an idea about it.

This will most probably happen (if it's not happening already). Bitcoin is 12 years old, it's about time for that. I know that some school teachers do introduce kids to Bitcoin (some teachers even came to this forum asking questions). And there are quite some interesting directions to cover, from the financial perspective (and also trading) to various technical topics (blockchain, addresses, spending..)

Well good thing that they're interested at those kinds of stuffs.
My professors back then don't even acknowledge or at least were aware that those types of coins exist. They just think that those are illegal coins and purely scam.

Explaining Bitcoin to those non-tech savvy would prove challenging at times.

I'm a computer student, and I discussed bitcoin at a university meeting today, and I think it would be interesting for you to know what both professors and academics think about bitcoin.

I told them that Bitcoin is part of the blockchain network and today most large companies and even banks use this technology. If this were the case, it would have happened 10 years ago & it is the global markets, such as the stock market, that are controlled by the powers that be, and that is why they are afraid of bitcoin.

At the end of the session, I introduced most of them to Bitcoin, and some of them even took the address of an exchange from me to buy some Bitcoin! This is the power of Bitcoin.

You too can invite more people into this digital world by talking. Wink
I'm also happy to share your experiences here.

It can become really hard to teach and convince some people about Bitcoin who have done zero research before about Bitcoin and also who are totally attached to the traditional fiat currency. But it looks like you really made it for some people at least.  Smiley  I believe that many of these people will learn about Bitcoin correctly in the future and there will be only less people left like that.

Good thing that you were able to requite them but wouldn't be a worse decision if they buy Bitcoin without learning other significant information or the deepest part of it. Because once they lose all the money they invest it they will more likely blame you. Introducing Bitcoin is quite difficult especially if they are not interested besides, I guess they would think of it as a scam because they cannot able to touch it, unlike bills or fiat. Sure this would not be hard to teach for young ones but the real challenge will come if you teach for someone who is aged enough because they are more familiar with fiat. I think you could just tell them a glimpse of it and once it caught their attention they will explore it by themselves.

Sounds like you had very interesting experience in promoting BTC. Hope you didn't overdo it because sometimes when people hear that somewhere in Internet exists a digital coin that costs a huge amount of money they frighten that this is a total come-on. So it’s better not to talk about its price but I don’t know how to talk about BTC and don’t to tell its price and not to explain people about its huge volatility that attracts investors in BTC all over the world to gain good profit. Think it’s still necessary to mention quietly and unobtrusively about this. That can attract people.

But professors who disagreed pointed out that bitcoin does not even have strong backing! Bitcoin is like something that does not exist, and people leave their capital in the hands of those who control the market.

So everything in the financial world must have "strong backing".
Does fiat money have a strong backing?Does gold have a strong backing?
I guess that,in the minds of those professors,if you can't touch one Bitcoin, this means that it doesn't exist. Grin
The same concept can be applied to any product of intellectual property. If you can't touch it,it doesn't exist in the real world. Grin
I think that you are wasting your time by introducing Bitcoin to a bunch of people, who are closed minded and don't want to understand the concept of blockchain/cryptocurrencies.

I think that in this situation, OP did a good job and the people that OP had a discussion with are intellectuals which means that they aren't that afraid to try it out. That is what I thought too, the price will definitely offset some people but in retrospect I think that it was an alright thing to do because it means that you are direct with what you are pointing out in the conversation and it is actually a good way to weed out people that are definitely not going to be a fan of crypto.

I'm also thinking myself on how to introduce Bitcoin to different people but looks like that until now, I don't where to start it.
I'm always happy that there are people who are introducing Bitcoin to other people especially those young people.

Its quite surprising until now for me that our professors didn't taught anything about money to me. They are my professors but they don't know anything about financial literacy. In the current era right now where most of the things are digital and online, we should teach Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general in the young people even it the basics only at least they have a starting point and then they will do the rest by researching if they really are interested to learn it.

Just tell them the basics about bitcoin and tell them that they have to discover all the other things themselves, it saves you time to explain all the niche parts of bitcoin and it helps them get their brains working and think for themselves, imagine if you spoon fed all the needed info to them then they will be so dependent on you that you will find it annoying. The reason that some teachers do not teach a thing or two about financial literacy is either it is not their forte or the curriculum doesn't include it which is a bad thing because if students get out of the schools without financial knowledge, they are going to be left behind.

Really good that you were able to convince them about Bitcoin, because that’s not an easy thing for anyone to do. There are a lot of people who try to convince others about bitcoin but it is usually difficult for them to do that because they don’t have points that they can use to convince them that bitcoin is actually good. So, you really did a good job by convincing them.

I also talk to people about Bitcoin whenever I can, I teach them and help them setup their wallets and exchange if they are interested to do so. And for sure I have met people who think that Bitcoin is bad because it doesn’t have a central unit that controls it, in cases like this I take time to explain to them what decentralization is all about, and how not having central control unit favours cryptocurrency.
