Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Either of the two.

Don't forget to buy from their official websites as there were reports of other marketplaces selling rigged HW.

You can find other options at [General] Bitcoin Wallets - Which, what, why?

This reminds me also of a case about leaked personal customer information from Ledger database that lead to phishing scams. It's not related to their product but you might want to consider that too.

I'd choose Trezor. Unless you want to store Monero as well, I'd go for the Model One. It's fully open source and has a very long community history with audits and lots of tests. The closest competitor is Ledger, which is only partially open-source and that is popping up a pretty large question mark for me.

I like Trezor, I haven't tried the Ledger Nano S but it has good reviews. One thing to note is that the Trezor is completely open source and therefore is code can be audited by anyone.

Check the wallet reviews from cryptowisser: https://www.cryptowisser.com/wallets

Many people will say Trust and Trezor wallets are best hardware wallets. Wallets can not protect you and you have to protect yourself and capital. Use wallets safely and carefully and always backup important information to recover your wallet in the future.

I did check this wallet review a month ago and I agree with your insight, they all have the checkboxes ticked for what hardware wallet I am looking for and you are right, we have to have a backup no matter how much safe they advertise their product because human factor is always the reason for most lost wallets. I think that this topic should be moved to Web Wallets.

Once I was hacked and that day I decided to buy a Trezor wallet. I am using Trezor for the last 3 years without any issue. I have ordered my Trezor from the official website, on the other hand, one of my friends using Ledger Nano without any issue now it's up to you which one you would like to buy as in my opinion both are good too store your coins hassle-free.

<…>
They are both reputable, and used amply by people around here. A few (non exhaustive) things to consider:

-   The device is not a 100% safeguard, meaning that it could at some point break down (i.e. screen could fail, device may not be readable, etc.). It´s not something frequent, but given time, all hardware may have issues.

-   Because of the above (not only), it’s actually very important to keep your 24 word mnemonic in a very safe place. Were the device to fail, you can always regain access if you have the mnemonic.

-   Hardware wallets have in the past encountered issue with outdated firmware (i.e. Ledger changed their management software at a certain point in time, and certain devices with older firmware versions became no longer usable on it). That should encourage one to update the device’s firmware every now and then.

-   You may consider using a passphrase to hide some accounts as an additional security feature. Both devices allow this, but you need to read and understand fully what it entails and how to manage it (the information is available on each of the device’s original sites).

-   Always purchase the device from the original site, or an official reseller, and check that it hasn’t been tampered with (i.e. no bogus prefilled 24 word mnemonic card, etc.).

-   Due to some data leaks in the past (Ledger is a master, but ultimately it could happen to any supplier), if you can, try to make the purchase without providing your complete real identity, phone and address. Not always simple to bypass this one, but if feasible, worth considering for peace of mind.

I use the Ledger nano S because I bought it a long time ago. But those knuckleheads kept in the cloud the data of all their customers who ordered wallets from them! And that database went online... So I have no confidence in Ledger!
I would recommend you to create a wallet in Electrum, record seed and store your bitcoins in peace...
Hardware wallets are not a panacea! Wink

Both are the best , either of two from TreZor to Ledger nano. What is very important is how will you handle to take care of your hardware wallets because we have seen many mismanagement and some Lost their funds for Making their keys hard to memorize and forgot it after years.
Make sure that you will handle them in right manner and keep it safe as safer as your life.
And also Welcome to HODL world , we will be proud of your decision as you are when the rigth time comes.

It's hard to definitely tell which one would be best suited for your needs, but I can confirm that the Ledger Nano S is a great wallet. Reliable, easy to use. However, Trezor and Ledger are popular brands that tend to be a bit on the pricier side, I think the Nano S goes for around 60$ which is considerably cheaper than the alternatives like Trezor, newer versions of Ledger, or KeepKey.

First of all, I recommend you read this thread: [GUIDE] How to buy a Hardware Wallet the right way
The point is that it has already happened that people bought hardware wallet and their home address has leaked onto the internet. This may be of concern, hence you may want to take some precautions.

Now about the preferences, I do have a Nano S and I'm happy with it. It was not that expensive and it does the job well. And it looks somewhat close to an USB stick.
I use the HW with (verified) Electrum and seldom with Mycelium. Imho Ledger live is crap as wallet.

Whats the best hardware wallet to buy?

Best hardware wallets are open source and they care about your privacy and security of information you send them when you order it.
Company that had multiple leaks, and has secret NDAs with closed source hardware and software is not a good choice for purchasing hardware wallet.
I would choose some of those open source wallets and use passphrase option as 25th word:

- ColdCard
- Bitbox
- Trezor

Other hardware wallets can also just work fine if you want to take more risk, and it is important the way how you order them so try to use PO boxes and alternative phone numbers.

Always remember that seed words are more important than your actual hardware wallet device, so keep it in safe place.

Good advice, I also had some frustrating issues with Ledger live POS. Mainly with them dropping Win7 support and the endless updates going on, inspires not much trust.
I'm not versed in how to access Electrum with the NanoS. How do you get (verified) Electrum?

How do you get (verified) Electrum?

I download it always by hand from electrum.org (typed, not searched)
And I do the steps from here to verify the download before use: https://bitcoinelectrum.com/how-to-verify-your-electrum-download/

Both are good, I've bought mine way back in 2017 and it is worth it. I feel secured since I keep my private key. Just make sure to order it directly on their website rather than individual resellers because there might be a risk it already tampered and you might lose your funds instead of securing them. Make sure to keep a hard copy of your seed phrase for back up.

Just use trezor, they have existed since the old days and I personally use it and have no problem with it though the software sometimes kinda glitchy (rarely though) if you try to login from different computer that has different "environment" but it's overall never disappoint me and until now I've never lose any crypto by using this hardware wallet, the newer hardware wallet might looks catchy and all but I prefer reliability  Grin Grin.

I will also support all the answers in favor of the Ledger Nano S and Trezor. They both give you the peace of mind to keep your coins securely. They enjoy a good reputation in the market.
But the main security will always depend on you. From your correct actions, do not lose access to the physical medium, so as not to lose your funds. . I would recommend reading all the advantages and disadvantages of wallets so that you can independently evaluate which is more preferable for you.

Wanna send it to a hardware wallet as I'm gonna HODL the next years. No Intention in trading. Whats the best hardware wallet to buy?

Maybe you have an old computer that you don't use anymore, or maybe you can buy something like that cheap? I suggest that before buying HW, you explore the possibility of storing your coins in a way called cold storage. All you need is a device that is airgapped (no internet access) and free software like Electrum. This type of storage is even more secure because you will not expose your personal information when buying, and you will be protected from all possible vulnerabilities that can be found in the future with any hardware wallet.

You can read more information at the following link -> https://electrum.readthedocs.io/en/latest/coldstorage.html

Of course, if you decide on something like this, in order to be 100% sure in the software you use, you have to verify it before installation - and also make sure that your backup (seed) is properly protected.
