At least for them to stay relevant, they have to embrace crypto so this is a great move for them. And I would say another welcoming news and for sure, maybe some crypto enthusiast will be happy about this.

There is a lot of this kind of news lately, and it is very good news. We are gradually moving towards mass adoption, it's not just that institutions are buying Bitcoin, it's also that more and more are accepting it as a means of payment. It is one more step towards normalization.

Which is a good news because this means that the adoption of bitcoin and other cryptocurrency is going to go faster than what it was in the past year. I think that a lot of subscription based website and online services should follow what Time Magazine is doing because as OP said, it helps them to stay relevant at the current cyber landscape.

Not really a surprise tbh. I'm pretty sure some of them already hold some crypto and then announce something like this so they can increase their profits. Sooner or later the scalability debate will need to have its conclusions or at least there are several alternatives so we can continue this trend.

Hopefully, we'll succeed at that and create a new wave of mass adoption.

Agree, mass adoption = more merchants online/offline are accepting bitcoin as means of payment and this is what Time magazine has accomplished here. Maybe we will here others follow as well. Time magazine already adapt in the digital world and now they are somewhat ahead of the competition in this niche when they announce that they are going to accept crypto, so this is good and welcoming news indeed.

Yeah right they can't stop it so better to embrace this new system which already gaining huge attractions.

It's high time to make sure that you are in the right track and with those people from financial sectors also seen this and start to follow crypto,
this only showing another step upwards for the entire crypto sphere.

Looking forward for more same alike acceptance and more institutional businesses to adopt this system.

Magazines have to adapt to survive and stay relevant. I think it's great that Time is doing its best and embracing new technologies. Auctioning 3 covers as well as accepting cryptos for subscriptions clearly shows that they're trying hard to remain interesting to the audience.
However, I didn't see the list of cryptos which are going to be accepted as payment, so it's hard to say whether these will be decentralized ones like Bitcoin or perhaps they mean some centralized tokens. And if it's about Bitcoin and similar ones, I think that with the current transaction fees and normally cheap subscription fees, it just doesn't make sense to pay with BTC, so it will only remind everyone of the big problem of Blockchain scalability once again.

A job offer from Time posted yesterday on LinkedIn, searching for a CFO for NYC, states amongst the required qualifications the following:
Quote
Comfort with Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.
That shows a line of action, and also another step towards considering bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as something that is causing an impact on some job profile requirements, and not just those in the technological sphere.

In my opinion, seeing the current development of the world that is quite good at responding to crypto, it is not a big surprise that Time has such requirements for its CFO candidates.  The CFO they hope will be a CEO who has flexible and visionary knowledge.  Because when it comes to crypto, what we are fighting against are centralized bankers and workers.  But people who accept crypto have a slightly different view of the economy.  I was once interviewed when applying for a job as a financial staff in one of the big companies in my country.  I was considered to have added value because I understood crypto and it was very attractive to corporate users at the time and I passed for the next stage.  For me this is nothing new, but I still appreciate Time openly choosing candidates with such requirements.

Well that's a good news! I mean at least TIME magazine will not spread negativity about cryptocurrencies if they start accepting it for digital subscriptions. Among this turbulent time, they are at least trying to stay relevant and also I see they are willing to join the NFT bandwagon!

Mad rush it is! While NFT will die a poor death like ICOs, some people are just trying to make money while it is hot! Otherwise, a digital item must not be worth millions in any way!

Happy for this news also. It is Time Magazine after all. Time Magazine may not be the perfect media but I think they are still generally relevant until now. Time Magazine is still considered a solid foundation in print media all over the world, well respected and looked up to both by local and international current affairs magazines. This is another battle won for Bitcoin. Other media companies will certainly follow suit very soon.

I am only appreciating Time's move to accept crypto for subscription, not the NFT thing.

This is another step forward to adoption that everyone is excited to have.
Not surprised anymore though, imagine if back in the days when you subscribe to newspapers.
Bitcoin further enhanced that. Now that many news are now written electronically, so why not make the payment of subscription be electronic as well? Smiley

The fact is that Time magazine is one of the most authoritative publications in the United States of America. The fact that Time introduced payment for a subscription in Bitcoin will radically change the attitude of society towards cryptocurrencies. It is the media that have a huge impact on people, and if they have accepted Bitcoin, then it is within their power to promote cryptocurrencies in the future.

Even though it is very true, we have been witnessing a radical change worldwide. Many people, companies etc. that were thinking in a negative way about Bitcoin started making statements and acting like directly the opposite. Therefore, this kind of news doesn't surprise me anymore because so many people want to get ready for the future already now.

...

Also Time Magazine is looking for a new CFO "comfortable with Bitcoin and Ethereum".

Time is like a dinosaur trying to chance. I'm not sure do they really embrace the change (and will change) or are using the hype around crypto for some free ads and headlines...

You know you made it, if you are on the front page of "Time Magazine"... right?

I know most people think Bitcoin and Crypto currencies are the "Fiat Killer" ...but I think they are wrong. Governments will never allow Bitcoin or any other "public" coin to replace Fiat currencies. They will use the technology to their advantage and they will pay developers to develop their own "GovCoin".

It is actually a bad thing when Time Magazine provoke governments like this.  Roll Eyes

Day by day we are having a mass adoption in which all by means companies and establishments are trying to accept bitcoin and also starting to use bitcoin or cryptocurrency to their services. I am just curious if they are doing this out of curiosity or they are just doing this because they want to follow the hype that are brought by the bitcoin, as we all know that the bitcoin is in the mainstream nowadays and many people wants to join the roller coaster ride of it.

This new wave of mass adoption is significant because now Bitcoin adoption does not only involve average people but also influential people and big businesses. For me this really different year for Bitcoin and crypto, this improvement is far different from the previous hypes.

That would be an indication they don't purely see it as a passing fad they could milk until the bubble pops. It would be cool if they accepted payments via LN as that's what it's ideally suited for.

This situation was really predictable. The situation on the crypto market and with different economical and social processes were of such kind in last couple of years that digital currencies came to the list of the top desired things in the bigger part of the world due to different factors. And it can be explained - a person with crypto gets more opportunities and bordeless variety comparing with banks or fiat. And during lock downs and pandemic situation people have revalued crypto and have seen on it from the other side.
