Telegram Group spammed with new users

Hey community,

I would like to understand something that I have never seen. Our telegram group of Vertex is currently being flooded by users. I mean FLOODED. over 2k users in 2h and it doesn't stop
Of course we have a bot in place to ban those users as they don't pass captcha but its annoying and much more, I do not understand why.

How is it for anyone in any way economical to do that? what is the purpose of that?

I am aware of the occasional 10 users joining and then starting to spam but this? thousands of users?

Has anyone ever experienced this?

Maybe we are not the only group this happens.

It not happen only on your group since many scammers are doing that just to promote their link to scam people if you are annoyed with those guys better hire a community manager to kick them up immediately so that their links will not stay there for quite long time. Bot sometimes cannot handle that so human actions is kinda needed to kick out those spams.

On situations like these where these bots do join up tons of existing groups or channels is for the purpose of spamming out their scam links or referral links in lots of ways.

Other purpose is that other groups does even like to have some show-off of lots of users in the channel for it to believe that they do have lots of supporters which
can be possibly be used as an alibi and do up some shady things and stuffs.

This does not happen only in your group it even happened on a reputable exchange telegram group but you have to try your best and ban user reported for scamming because ever since the cryptocurrency was acknowledged as an innovative technology to make people financial freedom a lot of scammers have seized the opportunity to target newbie crypto participants or user that have urgent issue to scam them off their fund.

Easy to say to try your best but have you read the OP?, it says there that thousands are coming in and the bot is already doing its best which means that the anti-spam that was in place is not an effective tool. Yes, these spams are used to promote scams but I don't think an average Joe that knows how to think and has a common sense wouldn't really fall for that because it is an obvious scam.

Thanks for all the replies. See I am not new in that space and that scamers and spamers join groups with maybe 20 users, I totally get. But joining with 10k+ users into a 1k community seems even for the dumbest scamers a bit overkill to me. our bot bans them all if they do not pass captcha, which none of them does so our group is not growing but man, at times there are 20 captchas pending, making communicating in the group impossible and closing it for good is annoying as we have organic users (5 to 20) a day coming in and everyone lost, is for us as a project a loss.

In almost every online social place scammers are around. And it's known that Telegram is one of the first places to be a haven for scammers and they're making sure that your group is containing other people to target newbies.

While a newbie thinks of those strangers that will contact them as legit one because the group has a lot of members. Just keep on blocking them and maintain the cleanliness of your group.

If don't read what the OP said how would I know what the issue is all about?

The tools can't be effective because 95% of all scammer on telegram usually act as an imposter using the admin name and if the OP could not check their follower list and remove the imposter
What the imposter usually does is wait for a newbie member that had an issue, send her a pm.

If you understand how this I posted scammer operated you know newbie investors will always be their victim and it something I have once experienced when I join crypto.

They must have their plan to invite more users to your channel, but you do not know their reason is to do that thing. That is not a surprise because someone can easily add other people to one channel or invite more people to join that channel. I do not know if there is a way to stop the new users from joining your channel. I never experienced it before because I do not use telegram

I have seen something Similar like that Last year in one of my group but not as huge as that , more than 2k members flooding your group?

That must a  a  organized bot spammer , and they are not happy with what your group as treating them.

Activities like this are no stranger to the Telegram. Everyone is competing to increase the number of channel members or groups for profit activities such as selling channels or groups at a decent price. Besides that there are already sellers that provide services to add bulk members to a telegram channel, so it's no wonder why you can ask that.

Yes, but the fact that I own the group and I have not paid anyone to add thousands of members (our bot is kicking them out anyway). This is the entire reason for the post: why would someone add them into the channel, for free. what is the purpose of this. There is no sesnse in doing that. adding 20 members to spam a link, fair enough. but 10k into a channel with 1k members?

I was hoping someone knows the reason behind it, just so I understand the dyamics and learned something.
