Too bad that there aren't a lot of people that are going to see this PSA and they are probably too lazy to open their browser to download the wallet directly from the website which means that they are likely to get confused as to which wallet they are going to download, to a lazy and untrained eye, the fake is not going to be suspicious but to someone who knows a thing or two about apps and how to get their clients, they will notice the irregularities pointed out in the fake app.
Problem here is that people are used to downloading apps directly from Google Play and have been doing that for years so when they decide to get crypto wallet for the first time, they won't think twice about the dangers of getting an app from there as they probably never had any issues with any app before. That thought that app could be fake won't even cross their mind, unfortunately.
I really think this is more of a staff / time / technology problem for Google in the sense that they do not have enough people assigned to check all of the potential frauds and with that don't have enough time or their automation technology is not up to the task.
Yep, they are probably understaffed in that regard (poor Google can't afford to hire more people
) and they simply can't check all those apps manually, and probably don't even care much as they are covered with TOS. Whether that's fair approach is another story..
By the way, thanks for reporting this, I added it to the
List of fake wallets on Google Play
