I recently just downloaded the Trezor Suite and am a big fan.  Although it is in Beta mode, and a bit slow, it is a big upgrade over the website.  Some great features added like the RBF on/off button, a button to bump up your tx fee while pending confirmations ( would have come in very handy when I had stuck transactions recently), Ethereum can now be stored without having to set up something extra etc..

That said...any negatives as to why I should NOT be using this app?  I'm not smart enough to know those kinds of things.. Thanks!

I am not a Trezor user, but if you believe in the Trezor as a device that stores your private keys, then I see no reason why not to believe in their application. The only difference in my opinion is that there is an option for a desktop app and a browser app - and for me, it is somehow more logical and safer to use the first one. Just because the browser app might have some additional attack vector that could appear due to some vulnerability in the browser itself.

I have to admit that the Trezor team has put a lot of effort into this, and it looks really good for now - which is certainly just an added incentive for those who are hesitant about which HW to buy.

I am not a Trezor user as well, I use Ledger.

I use their native application, Ledger Live, especially when dealing with altcoins.

However, for bitcoin, you might want additional control over your private keys. Electrum.org is certainly the best wallet.

For example, Electrum allows you to control which address (input) to spend, so you can have a much better privacy when making transactions. It allows a nice fee customization as well.

I think it is a good idea to have both software.

I've played with it a few times, and I agree it's better than the browser app wallet.  The added control is definitely an improvement.  I like that you can have multiple accounts open at the same time, you can connect through Tor, and the RBF feature is a big improvement.  I don't keep a lot of alt coins, but I like it better for ETH than MEW.

There's no coin control, and little control over addresses.  If you want to label your accounts or addresses you have to set up an account on DropBox, which I don't like at all.  I still prefer to use Electrum for accessing my bitcoin.

It's definitely user friendly, and I think that's Trezor's goal with it.  The lack of advanced controls is probably intentional to some extent to keep the software easy to use.  It does provide the basics, including updates to the hardware wallet's firmware.

Yeah, pretty much this.

My biggest issue with the Trezor software has always been how limited you are when it comes to coin control and addresses. They don't even show you your change addresses, let alone allow you to interact with them. There have also been a number of reports on Reddit of the Trezor software sending any coins from change addresses back to the same change addresses rather than to new ones:

https://www.reddit.com/r/TREZOR/comments/lou2n1/trezor_account_not_generating_new_change_addresses/
https://www.reddit.com/r/TREZOR/comments/kztz9p/trezor_suite_reuses_change_address_for_btc/

If you want a nice looking and easy to use interface, then go for it, but if you want to have any real control over your keys and addresses, then Electrum is the way to go. There's no reason Trezor couldn't introduce all these features and just hide them behind a "Show advanced options" tick box somewhere to keep the basic interface cleaner for less technical users.

Lol, it does look nice, but that's about about as deep as it goes.  Electrum FTW.

There's no reason Trezor couldn't introduce all these features and just hide them behind a "Show advanced options" tick box somewhere to keep the basic interface cleaner for less technical users.

I agree with that, but to what end?  Don't get me wrong, coin controls are a must for privacy and safety, and it is disappointing that Trezor doesn't include the features in their software.  But I think from their marketing perspective, their goal is to attract as many new users as possible.  Their target audience are those who are likely uninitiated in crypto, and less technical overall.  They probably concluded that what's best for business is a simple, clean interface without a lot of technical options destined to keep their customer service personnel working overtime.

And lets face it, they'll never include a command line interface, encryption/verification capabilities, network/proxy controls...  Even if they added coin controls (which again, I believe they should) I would probably still use Electrum.  Those of us who are more technically capable already have plenty of tools at our disposal, and I think Trezor's marketing department knows that.

I agree with that, but to what end?
They have an incentive to keep people using their software. They make money from the exchange service they have built in to their software, and there are other routes for monetization in the future, such as a lending platform as Ledger have done in Ledger Live. Every user who leaves their software for Electrum (or some other client) is potentially a lost source of revenue for them, and there are a significant number of users who are never going to touch a CLI but would still make use of what should be considered fairly basic features like coin control, or at least even appreciate being able to see all their addresses.

They probably concluded that what's best for business is a simple, clean interface without a lot of technical options destined to keep their customer service personnel working overtime.
I have no doubt that a simple, clean interface suits the majority of their customers, but I still think they should offer additional features to users who want to use them. If Electrum can do all this for free, there is no reason that their team of developers with much greater resources available to them cannot.

Edit: I just had a look at their Roadmap, and noticed that "Coin Control" is listed as an "Upcoming" feature, although with no anticipated date - https://github.com/orgs/trezor/projects/28

Trezor Suite is much better than their old web wallet but it is still in beta and they should work more to make it better with adding new features and improvements.
There are plus and minuses for all wallets but if we look at their roadmap with upcoming CoinControl, Conjoin and all other features including Tor support, I would still rate high this app, but it can be slow sometimes.
I would still choose to use Electrum with Bitcoin and Trezor wallet and people can use Trezor Suite for all other coins.

Like other more advanced users here I will stick with Electrum and a HW combined.  I did experiment with Trezor Suite but it won't fire up on my systems unless I perform manual edits to the OS.  I did those edits using a VM just to see how it works independent of the needed edits.  It was OK, but slowwww compared to Electrum using the same operations.  One noted improvement over the web wallet they host is full support for true bc1 (native Segwit).  I suppose the slow part of the operation is due to running a Suite of crap at the same time.  Didn't like lots of stuff running when I only want to perform a simple transaction or similar.

In fairness: Trezor Suite is stated as BETA so lets cut them so slack while they work out the kinks!

Trezor Suite will give beginners and those who have not downloaded any crypto wallet before an experience with a good interface, many options with an easy-to-handle functions.
However, I will not download it, all the features it offers, get it better with the wallet merging with electrum and MetaMask.

https://trezor.io/shamir/ is the only this that will make me downloads it.

The link Lucius gave has a lot of insight into this Trezor Suite. Like Tor Support, Coinjoin, Full node, DEX Integration, Lightning Integration, etc. It definitely looks great and a lot less complicated if they manage to have a great user experience/interface on it, it's going to be a game-changer.

I think we have to accept that they are targeting less tech-savvy people that probably will have a hard time figuring out how they would do those different functions without the help of a GUI. Most people wouldn't be attracted if they see the complicated steps to achieve that with other regular software.

You can easily accomplish the shamir operation using trezorctl.  YOU maintain control without the Suite.  I have done it a few times as a learning task, although I don't actually use that model for my heirs model in place!  Shamir does have many benefits but its design is not for everybody.

However, for bitcoin, you might want additional control over your private keys. Electrum.org is certainly the best wallet.
Electrum does offer more advanced coin control features but you still can't access, view, or extract your private keys even if you use Electrum. They remain a secret and protected in the secure element of your Ledger device.

For example, Electrum allows you to control which address (input) to spend, so you can have a much better privacy when making transactions. It allows a nice fee customization as well.
Ledger Live also introduced coin control a few updates ago. When you enter transaction details while sending bitcoin, you can click on the Advanced Options button. That will allow you to select between 3 different coin control options and click on which coins you want to spend. It's not as user friendly as Electrum, but it exists. I still prefer Electrum though. There is no reason why the Trezor Suite couldn't have included basic and advanced features in the same way.

I am a Trezor Suite user, got mine as a gift.

So far I am happy how the app is evolving, they polishing the details.

The only feature missing for now is the Sign-and-verify section, which is available on the old interface.
As far as I am aware, Trezor Team is working to add it.

I specially like the fact one can store ETH and its tokens easily now on Suite.

I have had a very good experience.  Wink

I updated my Trezor/Trezor Suite this morning.  I unplugged the hardware wallet and closed Trezor Suite.  I then went back to send some coins off of it, and to my surprise I wasn't prompted to enter my password, the wallet just loaded up in Suite as if I had unlocked it.  This is a bit concerning.  Has anyone else experienced this before?  I just tried to repeat this step and was not able to get in to the wallet without entering my pass code, which is good, but still.  Any thoughts?

It was not happened to me, however I noticed that after the update it allowed me to remove coins from the interface without asking me for my password, i am not sure it was this way before, though.

The 21.9.2 version has a lot of bugs! A couple of days ago I reported a bug that I think might have something to do with what you're experiencing... I forgot to mention in the following post that, when I got stuck in the bootloader mode, it kept showing that my device was connected, even though that wasn't the case [I think the latest version has issues with identifying if our devices are unplugged or not]!
- Btw, a few hours back, I upgraded mine to the latest version [again] and didn't encounter any of the issues I've described in the other thread.

  • ~Snipped~
    • This time, I used the original cable [short] that came in the package and when I checked the firmware version, it showed the correct version, but as soon as I unplugged it, it went to bootloader mode and it got stuck in there. After that, whenever I reconnected my device, it lead to an empty wallet [I checked my laptop and the web version, everything was fine, so I downgraded (on desktop) my Trezor suite to 21.7.1 (for the time being) until I do more tests and figure out what's causing it on the latest Trezor suite version][/sup].

I noticed that after the update it allowed me to remove coins from the interface without asking me for my password, i am not sure it was this way before, though.
AFAICR, that's always been the case.

Interesting, thanks for the info! Is there any reason I shouldn't be using the Trezor Suite now and just go back to using the website? Hopefully they get all these bugs fixed and squared away because I absolutely love the Trezor Suite especially compared to the website.  So many great features from not having to set something separate up to store Ethereum, Tor, to being able to bump fees.  I have not seen a wallet program as cool as that one personally.

You're very welcome Smiley

Apart from experiencing cache problems occasionally, I don't see any other reason for switching to the web version, but having said that, depending on the features that other wallets offer, you can try using your Trezor device with those instead [e.g. Coin control on Electrum and etc...].
- I did notice the part that you mentioned Ethereum, but since I'm not that familiar with the type of features that other wallets offer for it, I didn't use it in the above example.
- Looks like the "Sign & verify" feature will be added to the Trezor Suite's upcoming version [based on the label, I think it'll be on "October 13"], so that's another reason to stick to Trezor Suite.

Trezor Suite is in my opinion much better and safer option than using their web version, that is if you are using official link for downloading and installing software.

Using desktop version there is zero chance of getting phishing attack and I don't think web version is supporting Tor option like desktop version, but you need to check and confirm that.
