India won the Cricket world cup after 28 years. Its a time of celebration in our home country.I have never seen people so jubilant. It might be unnoticed for the world but 1 out of 6 people in world witnessed this event (Indian subcontinent population-> 1.5 billion people)

Why are you proud of the achievements of some people you don't know?

On the other end, indian people are the only people in the world who are so obssessed with this weird, awfully complicated game.

It's not your cup or India's cup, that cup only belong to those players. You and the rest of India didn't move a finger to win it, so I think it's silly to be proud just because you live in the same arbitrary geographical region as the winning team.

Sport sucks anyway.
It's fun when you're a kid, but once you're grown up, it's just silly.

@ john : Why don't you object when developed countries like England or France win soccer World Cup.There also whole country does not move their fingers or feet in contributing to their team's victory but they celebrate and take pride.
Is their a prejudice ?
Here in India thousands compete to get in the national cricket team.Every kid knows how to play cricket. Its said that cricket is a religion in India which surpasses all other religions of our country.

Why would I object about any team winning anything? I couldn't care less about it. What I'm questioning is you being emotional about this win. Like you said, it's a religion, the religion of nationalism. I think you should move away from it for your own sake.

Having worked in India, the country elevates it beyond a sport and into a cultural almost religious fascination especially when competing against Pakistan. Otherwise coined as the Cricket Wars. India has a very strong sense of National Pride and the banner carrier for it is the sport of Cricket.

Sounds very cliché but it's just plain truth.

If India's team is supported by spndr7's tax money, even indirectly, does he not have a right to be emotionally invested? What if he has spent no tax money but still stands to gain economically from their victory?

The real winners are always we who hate sports. Every time the fan of any team opens their mouth, we win by getting to look down on them. Personally, I am a huge fan of disliking watching other people play sports. Going to a bar during a baseball game is like.... hanging out in a room full of people who collectively have seizure every few minutes. I mean, I would be happy to throw a ball around, or PLAY a game, but, I can imagine few things more dull than watching one on TV (its like regular TV but with an even more repetitive plot).
