I created the best database of notable Bitcoin skeptics on the Internet

Bitcoin's story cannot be told without the inclusion of both its strongest believers and disbelievers. Healthy skepticism of revolutionary technology is vital because it speeds up development and adoption.

I created “Bitcoin is Dead” in hopes of playing a (tiny) role in telling its eventual story by tracking its most notable skeptics and documenting important pieces of its history. (Also as a longtime hodler, I think freezing cold takes are pretty funny.)

It tracks notable skeptics, quotes, dates, the price of Bitcoin on those dates, how much the price of $BTC has increased since, etc. and I'm planning on updating the database about once every two weeks. I made the Bitcoin Skeptic Hall of Fame and another section called Well Actually where I cataloged the most common criticisms of Bitcoin and made rebuttals to each.

Hope you guys enjoy it! Definitely open to feedback on how I could improve it as well.

Before you mention it, I'm aware that this exists. But in going through their posts, I noticed that ~30% of their entries were incorrect - dates were off, quotes were taken out of context, source links were broken, and obituaries were attributed to the wrong person. The information also just isn't displayed in a way that's clean and organized or easy to absorb in any way. So I decided to make something better.

You’ve done a good job, everything is very clear and easily accessible, and it really provides a great insight into how some have deliberately and some probably out of ignorance commented on Bitcoin over the past 10+ years.

What is interesting to me is that critics and skeptics were most engaged in the time of 2017 when the last ATH happened, but also in the crypto winter period from 2018 to 2019. It seems that the current price has impressed them a bit, so the criticism is getting weaker (it's not that they don't exist), but it should be said that some of the biggest critics have converted and become big proponents of Bitcoin.

In this regard, I would mention that it would be convenient to include the now famous Michael Saylor (MicroStrategy) on the list. He used to say that BTC would fail, and today he buys BTC at every opportunity.

Nice trap website for all the sceptics who are googling bitcoin is dead phrase, but maybe you need to add auto expanding list when we scroll down the page or add bigger show more button because I at first sight I saw only 20 names of sceptics with oldest dates.

I see that Peter Schiff is proudly shown in Hall of Fame next to Nouriel Roubini, but what about his son who is now 100% in Bitcoin, it would be nice to see father vs son comparison.

One cosmetic suggestion is to add dark theme for website or dark/light switch, and maybe add some Twitter page to get more traction and followers, but overall I like your idea.

Upon checking, I'm not sure but the dates and publisher are correct. Names and some wrong spelling are in it though.

Now this is something new I have seen over a period of time. There should be more people like you in this community trying out new things.
The graph shows how many people believed that bitcoin won't sustain in the long run but yet here we are.

It's great of you to have created such very organized compilation. There are probably more of these skeptics than those indicated in your site. If I'm not mistaken, Mark Cuban or Bill Gates, for example, have already voiced their skepticism over Bitcoin.

Anyway, do you think it is interesting to include those who used to be skeptics or even critics but have already confessed they had it all wrong and recanted their previous views? Michael Saylor, for example, obviously one of the strongest Bitcoin shill of today, used to be a skeptic himself.

This is because they come out during the times when there is an increased number of newcomers in bitcoin world, they target the newbies and feed them their FUD. Considering the fact that the media was talking about bitcoin a lot in 2017 and many people were starting to think about it, the FUD machine was also the most active. They obviously stay active during 2018 to say "I told you so" and pretend their FUD was right just because price dropped. They (again) obviously disappear when the reversal happens and price goes back up.
They will come back when the hype in 2021 grows bigger and the number of newcomers increase again.

BTW I wouldn't use the term "skeptic" or "critic" for these people because that is not what those spreading FUD are.

Possibly a way to zoom in on the dots on the graph? Yes I know, the links for every dot is below but I'd rather just use my scroll wheel, zoom in, and press a dot rather than scrolling through quite a bit towards the links provided. Especially since I'm not particularly sure if I've actually hovered on a dot since stacked ones are quite difficult to differentiate from each other.

Still a good site though, I mean my only complaint was a qol change after all.

Nice job! Skeptics are always skeptical, it is in their nature. Soma of them changes their mind at the end of the day buy others don't. In the bullish and bearish period, they were there denying bitcoin.

Lol! Well spotted. Anyway, I was thinking maybe OP could add those who have indeed changed their minds over the years (or maybe another webpage could be created). I am thinking of Saylor, for example, who is nowadays a kind of Bitcoin Evangelist but was skeptical until last year, or Kevin O'Leary (Mr. Wonderful). I think the list would be a fairly large one.

Haven't had time to browse through everything but I think you've done a very decent job from what I can see so far! And you're absolutely right, we wouldn't be here in the space without them. In fact, they've helped us every bit as proponents do in terms of visibility, awareness, even just pure interest. Keep it up and look into non-English sources

I don't mean to invalidate the effort that OP has put in this database of skeptics but I don't see any use of it but trying to make these skeptics look hypocritical when they suddenly become more engaged and retract their stance on bitcoin.

Aren't they already hypocrites? Just look at Peter Schiff posting quite often about Bitcoin, hence keeping a close eye on it and also having "family member" conveniently investing into Bitcoin.

That's what I am saying, this database kind of says "in your face" to this hypocrite critics of bitcoin, I mean it isn't really necessary because that's too much damage to their reputation.

It could be a sort of "message" to the people new to Bitcoin, to not listen to these types of so called "skeptics"(more like passionate hater), but instead they should do their own research and come up with their own conclusion and investment theses. There's a huge difference between a reasonable and logical skeptic, to those that are just simply hating for whatever reason.

I know it was just a April's fool prank and I was part of it with posting his tweet here    but Peter later admitted that he was really wrong in thinking that bubble couldn't get this big, and I can only imagine his face when Bitcoin gets to $100k and higher.

Whenever someone tells you that he is right about everything than something is not right with him.

Definitely open to feedback on how I could improve it as well.

I would like to propose a small change in its UI:

• It seems that clicking a dot stops showing the results that are normally shown while hovering over other dots and the only way to see those are either a double click on the dot or zoom in/out on the screen.
  ^{- It would've been better if there was a way to eliminate the latter parts.}
• Ability to see results within certain periods.
• Share button in each of the pop-up boxes.

Overall, I'm really impressed

I guess time to switch my favorite site to this when it comes to people hammering Bitcoin that it is a dead coin since 2013.
I wasn't aware that the Obituaries were off to their posts, but I guess mishandling data is common anyway.
It would still be nice if there was counter to that repetitive quote from people.
