I normally wouldn't dream of ridiculing anyone getting into crypto. I'm much more likely to assist or something, but this guy is just so F'd every time he opens his mouth regarding BTC.

A few years ago, he kept going on about how he wanted to buy a house or property using BTC. Decided not to because the price was to volatile and you could never peg down the exact amounts, and he had to put up guarantees. It was the stupidest attempt to sound intelligent in n interview for people who knew less than he did. Go figure peak time after a spike could be volatile, I still don't really believe they actually gave this a shot.
https://www.cnbc.com/2017/12/07/kevin-oleary-bitcoin-is-an-asset-not-a-currency.html

Now he's moved on to only buyingBTC that is clean, mined with clean energy, and not from China. What a joke, I think he truly believes that BTC stays as 1 entire coin and that there is no mixing and mingling of sats as transactions are done. I'm actually kinda glad if it helps ensure this dude misses the boat a bit more.
https://www.cnbc.com/2017/12/07/kevin-oleary-bitcoin-is-an-asset-not-a-currency.html

It's funny as he has a great quote about how 99% of people who have bitcoin don't understand how it works.

Go back just 2 months and he was sitting there calling BTC a nothing burger. Such a gem. Not to mention he was trying to "ICO" tokenize a hotel in 2018.

Good thing Fiat  Wink is clean.

After that interview he doesnt come out very well.

Quote
“The volatility makes it very difficult for me as an investor to put that into a portfolio. So to me, it is a speculation.”

I'll bet he wishes it was in his portfolio now.

its amazing that over the years people like this have gotten plenty of airtime
to speak negatively against Bitcoin and over the last 12 months we have seen
some of them change their minds.

Exactly, and Kevin also has the money to invest, even if he is goof in the crypto world, I think that him investing in bitcoin is going to affect the market and it doesn't really matter what he says because in the end, we all know what happens to this people.

Regarding the clean energy and Chinese miners thing, it's either:

1. He's really really ignorant
2. He's just virtue signalling, trying to be an "environmentalist" and a hardcore patriot for the public to see him as a good guy

I'm guessing that it's the second, because I totally refuse to believe that he's just THAT stupid.

If he so quickly changed his opinion because of Bitcoin's bull run, he could change it back as soon as the price will start dropping. And his ideas that you only should buy Bitcoins mined with clean energy are pretty stupid and counterproductive, so if some newbies view him as a guru, that's a net negative for Bitcoin.

But he's a small fish in Bitcoin community, I literally never heard about him before this post, so it's all not a big deal.

It's people like this who make Bitcoin more confusing to newbies and potential supporters. I think Kevin O'leary hasn't really made up his mind just yet about Bitcoin. He used to be against it and then he became a supporter and yet he has this discrimination against certain Bitcoins.

This idea that there is such a thing as a clean Bitcoin and a dirty Bitcoin is not a Bitcoin supporter's idea. Bitcoin is not a NFT. One Bitcoin used in a certain transaction is exactly similar to the rest of the 21 million Bitcoins.

Of course it is the second one.
When people are scared of the boogeyman, they listen to whoever is talking about him. It is the narrative of our decade. There are "evil Russians" now there are "evil Chinese" and there are a bunch more evil boogeymen. To make people think you are worth listening to or distract them from the truth just talk to them about the boogeyman.

That's what politicians do too Smiley
For example they were incompetent in dealing with Covid19 so they started calling it Chinese virus and re-directed people's anger from themselves to the boogeyman.

I have doubts that Kevin O'leary is a real businessman. He seems like a showman/actor,who is getting paid to act as if he is a very successful business mogul. Grin
Anyway,he seems like a real boomer, who can't understand technology and innovation.
Other than that,he seems like a toxic and annoying person.I don't know him, maybe he is just playing a role.
We don't need a guy like him in the Bitcoin community. He looks and sounds like the typical ignorant FUDster.

Kelvin o'Leary  will be wishing he got into bitcoin long time ago and by the statement of wanting to buy bitcoin not mined from China show he have little knowledge about bitcoin. As I read through the article I got more confused on what his stance really is on bitcoin.
Doesn't really have to wish because he is already a billionaire and even if he was to get in late, he is still going to get profits because if he were to invest in it, I am pretty sure that it isn't just a meager amount. Doesn't really matter what stance he has on bitcoin because cor one personality that opposes bitcoin, there is going to be two or three that is going to defend and support it.

Now that he is talking in such a way, there is a motive behind it for sure. I think he wanted the price of BTC to drastically decreased by adding those comments so that he can buy again and make another good comment but not by him anymore. These guys think their words will matter when a time like this has happened and the market is growing. The price of BTC will continue to grow without them talking or any words getting out of their mouth. The companies that we thought will not gonna put their hands on BTC now they are the one who is supporting it with all their connections in the line. none of those comments will gonna add more to the fire anymore.

In Kevin O'leary's world, he is Mr Wonderful .... and he knows everything and he is always right. (That is a name coined by himself and now it is his nickname on Shark Tank)

Now if you watched Shark Tank, you would know that Kevin O'leary is the Shark with the most money and the sharpest tool in the shed. (In his view)

Most of the people on Shark Tank, seem to think that money makes them super human beings and their success entitles them to know better than everyone on all topics and also to say whatever they want. Obviously we know most of them know almost nothing about it, so we laugh at their antics. (When they do not know about something, they will criticize it)  Roll Eyes

Tokenizing his hotel?  Grin

Watched one of his interview on Kitco news where he also mentioned clean coin that is mined from Iceland or any other country except China. He doesn't buy coins mined from China because it's from a country that banned BTC. I don't know how he comes up to that conclusion.

Yes there are people who really don't know BTC or blockchain yet but then if you already own just a fraction of BTC, you should at least learn about it. Kevin thinks he knew it all already and talks loudly in interviews.

I bumped into this just a while ago in Twitter while looking for updates about XRP.
I don't know how it was recommended. Maybe just because it's both talking about cryptocurrencies.
Who is he?  Grin The guy is unknown to me that is why I just kept on browsing.

its amazing that over the years people like this have gotten plenty of airtime
to speak negatively against Bitcoin and over the last 12 months we have seen
some of them change their minds.
Yes, that's the awkward thing that happens everytime someone speaks ill of something.
Instead of pulling it down, it's a freebie for advertisements and opens a portal to the unknown.

Now he's moved on to only buyingBTC that is clean, mined with clean energy, and not from China. What a joke, I think he truly believes that BTC stays as 1 entire coin and that there is no mixing and mingling of sats as transactions are done. I'm actually kinda glad if it helps ensure this dude misses the boat a bit more.

the hints are that he:
'does not buy coins on public markets'. (coins that have been 'spent/mixed)
'does not buy coin from chinese miners'.

he is by what he is inferring . doing OTC trading with non-chinese mining farms in hydro-power area's
meaning he is getting the coins direct from the source mining coin reward. and not from some mixed up reserve public exchange

many whales/large institutions avoid public exchanges.. they prefer OTC instead

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

That's all well and fine. I had no illusions of him using Coinsquare. This still doesn't change the fact that it's a stupid line to assume one can take in any currency/asset. If he only ever plans on buying newly minted coins there can be almost no trading opportunity for him. "Clean" coins as he puts it are rarer each and every day.

Then there's the second thought I had about this. Will he accept the coins if the transaction is processed by a "Dirty" miner. No choice unless he works with a pool that has the knowledge and support to handle their own transaction. On top of that further, do these Farms also then separate the coinbase reward from the transaction fees incase those are dirty or were previously dirty.

It's just so stupid at every level. I would love to see these interviews done by people with a shred of knowledge to challenge idiotic ideas, then they would also have to have the integrity to challenge those ideas, but that's another issue in itself.
