Smiley You might remember my other website: LiveBTCdata.com. Well I am back with another free resource for the bitcoin community: BTCLexicon.com

BTCLexicon.com is the most comprehensive Bitcoin glossary anywhere! Packed with bitcoin-related term definitions, pronunciations, real world usage examples, and more. Includes quizzes, polls, recommended books and videos, links to great bitcoin websites, random quotes from Satoshi Nakamoto, and a bunch of other cool bitcoin stuff.

Main Goal: To become one of the most useful resources for bitcoin newbies and OG alike.

Why Did You Build This?  My live bitcoin price visualizer LiveBTCdata.com is a success (thanks to the early feedback of BitcoinTalk!) but lots of users are still asking me basic questions about "What is bitcoin mining?" or "What is the bitcoin halving?" etc... I grew tired of searching for the answers and sending links to everyone (from other websites)... so I built my own bitcoin glossary (BTCLexicon.com) to store these definitions and it just kept growing. The launch set includes a couple hundred terms but I am currently defining about 800 more!

What Problems Does BTCLexicon.com Solve? There are other bitcoin glossaries but most of them are secondary products... like, an Exchange will have a little terms page... or a website will have a sparse set of terms as a subpage to their main site... but BTCLexicon.com is totally dedicated to helping newbies learn about the sometimes confusing bitcoin terms. Plus, my website is in the unique position to be able to aggregate terms from Wikipedia, BitcoinWiki, Bitcoin.org and more... curating the best content and presenting it to the users without asking them to search all over the web for the right answers.

Bonus! I am a stubborn bitcoin maximalist and both LiveBTCdata.com and BTCLexicon.com are built from a bitcoiner's perspective... no shitcoins or scams here!

BTCLexicon.com is free, never sells any user data ever (Google Analytics is the only usage tracking mechanism), and has no business model. I built it for you, bitcoiner!

Please post feedback and suggestions here. Thank you! BTC

Wow - usually when I see these sort of posts with folks ‘ promoting’ their amazing website - it’s a load of rehashed waffle and shameless asdvertising . BUT - actually this is very, very good  Smiley
Really like the colours and the content is very good term . Like the way you’ve gathered lots of definitions and not just standard stuff .
Good luck and honestly I’m very impressed  Smiley

Glad you've actually put the efforts into linking to the related videos. Very comprehensive indeed! I'm sure there are a lot more terms to be added but you're definitely heading in the right direction as far as contributing as a free resource to the community I suppose!

My only suggestion would be, don't forget to use bitcointalk as your database that is there are a number of threads and posts here explaining topics in great detail which you could link to on your website.

You've done it again [another great website] Wink

Suggestions:

  • Show all of the words on a single page as opposed to listing only three for each letter.
    - It'll be useful when it comes to using CTRL + F [I do know there's a search bar but this way it's quicker].
  • It'd be nice to see a short definition while hovering over each word.
    - For in-depth explanations, they could refer to each of the respective pages.
  • A light/dark toggle switch button.

Bookmarked. I was recently looking to find something like this to collect and make forum post about it to help new members but this website is even better solution.

My suggestions would be to have some easy way for submitting and suggesting new terms, and you can add translations in other languages maybe with contributions and help from other people.

it is nice to see beautiful site with good terms but not all of the terms are Bitcoin. I suggest omitting some terms like Graphical User Interface (GUI) Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) and all altcoins terms as DAP , Airdrop, .....
I suggest adding more terms Child-Pays-For-Parent and an opportunity to trace some terms.

Thank you so much for your feedback! I appreciate your time and effort and would like to address each of the posted items, if I may:

Thank you very much! Question: How can I learn more about using BitcoinTalk's database, as you mentioned? Is an API available?

What's up, SFR10? Thanks for the kind feedback and thoughtful suggestions. Taking your advice, I have implemented a List View (toggle it from the BTCLexicon.com home page) and also added pop-up definitions on-hover for every term. I have also improved internal linking so as you scroll down the pages, you should start to see better in-page referencing (still being optimized). Dark mode was the default, but I am definitely adding light mode soon (I'll be using the same code from LiveBTCdata.com to create the toggle).

Thank you for the bookmark!

Thank you for the bookmark and for the good for suggestion. There is an "Edit This Term" option on every term page (might need to scroll down a little to find it)... Users can Add/Edit/Request Removal for any term in the database by using the Editor tool. No sign-in or anything creepy like that (it might have a name and email field but you can use fake details if you wish...) -- just click the tool, make the edit, and help by contributing to the lexicon!

Thank you! I wanted a clean, simple design that would look great on any screen.

I will be adding 800+ more terms in very short order. Keep checking and watch the terms fill up!

Question, please: What is "trace some terms?"

Thank you for your suggestion on adding/removing terms... Please see above (about the Terms Editor) and also my expanded answer below the next quote (they asked a similar question).

This is better than expected and contain more terms than i expected. However, few terms such as "Java", "JavaScript" and "Solidity" barely related with Bitcoin. The usage of Imunify360 is a bit annoying for Tor user though, i had to change circuit few times to able to access the website.

  • Show all of the words on a single page as opposed to listing only three for each letter.
    - It'll be useful when it comes to using CTRL + F [I do know there's a search bar but this way it's quicker].

I also suggest this, i don't want to click "View all X items" 26 items if i want to see all terms.

Thank you! I added a list view so you can see all terms on one page now. Grid view is still the default, but List View is available.

About the terms... I started out looking for purely "Bitcoin-related" terms... but people keep asking me questions like, "What's an ICO?" or "What's an NFT?"... etc.

To be clear, I view Bitcoin as gold and *all of the rest* as pyrite/tin foil (or just plain ol' scams). But, if I am building a fully-comprehensive bitcoin glossary meant to encompass the entirety of the bitcoin ecosystem... shouldn't I include the tertiary and also the sometimes-controversial terms as well? The normies will be looking for it all... and this is an opportunity to tell the real side of the story...

I did take extra care to use specific examples to help educate about the scammy nature of the altcoin ecosystem... so when you look for the term "ICO," for example... one quote might be given as: "My friend told me about the hot new ICO but it looks like a scam to me..." or in another example, I wrote: "There are a lot of altcoins but I am sticking with Bitcoin." Things like that to show the terms, but also to help educate.

Similarly, GUI, GPU, Java, Javascript, Solidity (and others) seem to have value as they are related to bitcoin in certain contexts.

That said... What do you think?

P.S. Twenty years as a web developer and I am embarrassed to admit I had to lookup Immunify360... Must be some crapware installed on the host. I didn't set that up but I'll check it out! Thank you for letting me know.   Smiley
