Mayor Francis squares has decided to sell his city as the world cryptocurrency capital. This is intended to make his city a crypto hub where crypto currencies would replace fiat currency in the metropolis. In a conversation with deal book he said "we want to be on the next wave of innovation". To achieve this mayor squares said he was "refashioning" the city's "fun in the sun" image.

Gradually the city is turning into Bitcoin city. The republican mayor has suggested Miami municipal workers get paid in Bitcoin and that taxes should also be paid in Bitcoin as well. He also suggested investing the cities fund on crypto currency. Currently local officials has decided to study the proposal. This is gradually giving him excessive fame on the crypto space.

Tech investors are making donations to fund his campaign. I can only inmagine the extent of wealth creation and massive job opportunity that would be opened to the municipal residents of Miami with this creative innovation  if this proposal is granted Miami automatically becomes a digital currency abode.

How about other countries adopting this process so as to enable me the wind of complete cashless society that has engulfed the earth.

Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

yeah, there have been several news and threads here in the forum regarding his interest in cryptocurrency and his plan on introducing it to his city and its citizen. I commend his open-mindedness regarding new technology especially bitcoin since a lot of politicians I see or hear are either against it or sceptical about it. also, I am glad local officials are considering his proposal.

just a note, the thread should be in bitcoin discussion. there is a move button at the bottom left of the thread or you can ask a moderator to move it for you on "report to moderator"

Firstly I want to know does he have the audacity to do such with the knowledge or permission of the Federal government, I don't know how this is done in the US but where am from, we really have a mayor, but in places where we do, his power are limited when it comes to making decisions as this, but on the other hand it's a victory for crypto-currency adoption.

He has access with lawyers, so more than likely, he already knows what he is doing. If he can realize his vision to his City, why not? This will be a good example on how crypto-based community will work. We are already in the digital age so what he is doing is just fast tracking its implementation. Sooner or later, a lot of advanced cities or countries will follow thru. But they will be the first one, to see the benefits of being a crypto-based community. If they are not successful, they can always go back to where they are previously from. But high chance that they will favor the comfort and convenience when they deal with crypto.

This is something big and once this will become succesful, other city may follow too or will start looking in cryptocurrencies.
But since this is not that so "easy" to become implemented, this may take time to totally working and implemented, some people don't prefer to use cryptocurrency so it is kinda hard on some point.

I admire this mayor of Miami. He must have realized that Bitcoin is unstoppable and that eventually the dollar will be losing to the dominance of other countries like China, Russia and Germany. The only way for the USA to maintain its global economic dominance is getting ahead of Bitcoin and of the blockchain. I am hoping that Miami will be offering also many good incentives to Bitcoin mining locators so that gradually we can wean this area of Bitcoin away from China. Let this be a real-model of Bitcoin application of a real geographical area.

I don't think Bitcoin is necessary to test what a cashless society could do, digital cash is there and banks could pretty much help you spend money straight from your account (with a lot of hassle). I'd actually rather not ask other countries to follow since I'd like to see instead what would happen here, calling them as the front of a starting innovation is putting up the words nicely, but in reality it's closer to a test subject. Not that I'm calling it bad or anything, I'm of the objective side who wants to see the effects of having a city that has crypto close to its core, and hence why I also don't want others to follow it for now since we don't really know what effects it could bring.

While a lot of politician for some reason likes to restrict innovation a bit too much, dude's pretty much a politician that allows innovation to take place. There's a reason why a decent number of VCs and companies moved(or planning on moving) from Silicon Valley to Miami.

It all started here:

I wonder how this is supposed to work from a regulatory point; the mayor is probably looking forward to cashing in a lot of BTC and limiting the outgoing coins. If the Bitcoin flows first to the people and then from people to the gov, then isn't Bitcoin slowly becoming a reserve currency for the said state?

It actually almost applies in Texas. It seems like both of these states (FLORIDA and TEXAS) are trying to compete. I’m not really sure but is it just a coincidence that both of these states almost work the same?

I heard that Texas officers are raising proposals to legalize bitcoin and become the second cryptocurrency-friendly state after WYOMING.

Now, going back, I just don’t feel right with their agendas why they’d like to make the city a bitcoin City.
And how investors are eager for the campaign to be approved. Is it because they have a lot of things they had to clean?

Regardless of the maze that is the reason for courage or not, because for me, having had a plan or it has been carried out is proof that the mayor in Miami really supports the existence of bitcoin. So whether it says it will continue or not I am sure that in the future, there will be many cities that place a certain point like space for bitcoin users to interact there.

Woah, really? that's so cool. Is the city big? or does it have a lot of citizen? because i can't imagine how he manage to convince everyone to change and innovate using bitcoin. Especially if most people are not common with bitcoin and also for those old people, they might find it confusing and difficult to adapt. But if those work well, then it's trully amazing! a great and brave step into the future, i might say. I hope many will follow its path as well, so we can see bitcoin becoming more common in our society, and may develop even further.

It is news for the news, and it is a collection of sporadic news such as paying salaries in bitcoin or paying taxes.
Bitcoin is not ready to exchange cash or be used extensively for daily transactions.
why you repost old news from 2021/03/23 to today date?

It is unlikely that the US government will actually allow him to do something like this.

Why not? It's not like Mayor Suarez is required to file a trademark or a patent to call Miami a "crypto capital". It's nothing beyond him recommending and welcoming cryptocurrency-related businesses to run in Miami. Just like how Silicon Valley is a city for startups and VCs, but nothing is sort of "official". It's just that it's the place where it's easier to find connections.

If the Miami mayor's project is successful, then this job will mean a lot. It strongly promoted the development of cryptocurrencies and the acceptance of payments with cryptocurrencies. All monetary exchanges will become faster. If all goes well and the establishment of this crypto capital has a positive effect, other countries will follow suit.

This is something big and once this will become succesful, other city may follow too or will start looking in cryptocurrencies.
But since this is not that so "easy" to become implemented, this may take time to totally working and implemented, some people don't prefer to use cryptocurrency so it is kinda hard on some point.
Yeah it is big, declaring your city as a crypto hub is a feat that the mayor has to stand with until it becomes real, there is no half-assed measures on this one because if it fails to do so, I am sure that it will end badly for his career and the city and it will be a bad image for bitcoin.

Interesting.
A true BItcoin/crypto city will actually need to be decentralized and modular. ..I wouldnt mind including other BItcoin ideals on such City. That could help make the city somewhat  autonomous, selfsustaining and part of the Bitcoin Network.
Centralized cities could end up centralizing a cryptocrrency if they contribute to most of the activities on  the cryptocurrency network.

Does a mayor have the legal right to make a city into whatever he desires, making Miami I crypto city may be an action waiting to be canceled by the President most especially if the country is not a crypto-friendly one? This is good news anyway, having a crypto hub in Miami.
