Windows installation errors when trying to update Electrum wallet.

Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade my older 3.4 Electrum wallet to the latest version for windows.
I've verified the installer and the program downloads from the Electrum site, but when I try run it, I'm getting several installation errors and the program will not completely install or open.

I tried to log on the the older version of my wallet, but kept getting and incorrect password error. I know I've entered it correctly and tried several times.

I finally just decided to delete the older wallet and restore my wallet from my 12 word seed, but I can't get the new version to work on my windows desktop computer.

Any ideas what might be go'in on here?

Are you running the latest OS version on your computer, very possible you have not updated you computer for a long time, this can possibly cause it. Hope your computer also have enough memory space for the wallet installation space. Try to update your computer OS before installing the electrum new updated version.

You can try to install Windows Installer version for Windows.

mjammer, It would help if you could write about what exactly the errors are, this way we can only guess what the problem is. It's possible that you haven't really updated your OS for too long, so try installing Electrum after you do that. Also check that some of the security software is not blocking the installation (your antivirus).

Hope your computer also have enough memory space for the wallet installation space.

I wouldn't say that the problem is the lack of disk space, because Electrum is not demanding on that issue - although let the OP check if it is really left on less than 100 MB of disk.

There is no Electrum 3.4.

What kinds of installation are you getting? Did you close your Electrum completely before attempting the upgrade?

@mjammer I think the latest version you are trying to run on your desktop PC is blocked by antivirus that is why it's not running?

If that's the case try to add the latest Electrum as a trusted app or exclude it in your Antivirus. It fixed my issue recently they don't let me run the latest Electrum they keep scanning it before they run but it's stuck on scanning and Electrum never open but it's running in the background that's why I tried to disable the antivirus and it works just fine. So try to temporarily disable the antivirus and if it works then exclude Electrum from your antivirus before your turn it on again.

What Windows version are you using? According to https://electrum.org/#download , recent Electrum versions might not work on Windows versions older than Win 7 and you might need to install the KB2999226 Windows update.
Not sure if this is going to work, but you can try downloading the Portable version and see if it works on your OS without updating it?

Are you working on Windows 7 or any of the old versions? You will encounter a lot of issues and the app may not work well for you.
Try to upgrade your Windows to the latest version and download the latest version of Electrum.org (verify signature)

I thought so at first but the bundled python broke compatibility with an older version of Electrum at 3.0.X and if that was the issue, OP shouldn't have been able to run 3.3.4 (?). Worth a try but it is hard to say without knowing what the error is.

Electrum also shouldn't corrupt/change the password like this as well.

I looked at the OP post history, and he really used Windows 7 last year, so it’s possible he has that same OS now. What is the problem now are the Electrum versions above 4.0.0 that don't seem to work on W7, and in addition to the update that is in the post from khaled0111, it is possible that his OS does not yet have some key updates like the Microsoft.net framework.

I suggest OP to look at the next thread as well, because the problem is similar to his and maybe some of the tips will help him too.
