But I stopped ordering online for 2 years. In order to save me some shipping fees, I have decided to order it from a good friend who is a licensed distributor of the vitamins product.

One day, I realized that my stocks are almost running out. So I called him to meet me to get my vitamins. My friend already have a Bitcoin wallet, but never really used it. So I asked him if he liked to be paid by Bitcoin this time, and he eventually said yes.

So I just scanned his QR code and paid him the amount (there was zero fee because of using the same wallet). And there you have it, my first Bitcoin peer to peer transaction with my friend for the vitamins.

My good friend is happy, and he doesn’t mind me to use Bitcoin again to transact with him. I don’t mind how long will BTC be massively adopted, at least it’s good to spread awareness and advocacy about it.

Cryptocurrencies generally can be banned in many countries, but that does not necessarily means at times that citizens of such countries are not using it. Why is it banned in China, but 65% of newly mined bitcoin are mined in China? That even means Chinese are making use of cryptocurrencies. Nigeria CBN banned cryptocurrencies this year, but that does not stop their citizens not to use cryptocurrencies when p2p exchange is possible.

I believe, if you are just storing small amount just for possible everyday expenses, that's fine. It comes in handy if it is in the custodial wallet. But definitely, if you have large amounts, better store it in your own wallet that you have full control. In the next coming years, there will be more of this if we want real adoption. Maybe, even convenience stores will have their QR codes if you want to pay in crypto.

Yeah, the wrong part was not really about the fee but about it being p2p, it was more like a Paypal transaction than a decentralized p2p payment.
Even if it's between two different wallets and it is a real blockchain transaction as long as there is a payment gateway between like coinbase or bitpay it shouldn't be counted as p2p.

But, sincerely, I think that at least in the near future those types of transactions would far outweigh real on-chain ones, just looking at the fees it makes them really impracticable, I don't know how much those vitamins cost as I know their price can range from a few $ to a few hundred but still a 5-10$ is a bit of turn-off. Eh, in the end at least it did involve bitcoin, every day I feel like there are just so few people using it to sell and buy stuff.

The problem with that though is that the citizen still doesn't have a complete freedom to use bitcoin because if the government were to strike down on them, they are probably going to be taken down. I'm not exactly thrilled with the OP's story either. At the moment Bitcoin is succeeding as a store of value and we will see if in the future it becomes a means of payment, either by LN or by this type of transactions. But if the Bitcoin is the best store of value in the world, which does not stop appreciating, giving the best returns, the most sensible thing to do is to keep it and not spend it. You are lucky to be living in a country where bitcoin is unregulated and the use of a custodial bitcoin wallet is encouraged, this solves the problem of fees which is why so many bitcoin users avoid using it to pay for retail goods, non-custodial wallet charges high fees for peer-to-peer transaction no matter how small the amount.

Unless you will use the bitcoin lightning network for transactions to avoid being charged high fees, but using a lightning network requires some level of technicalities.

True that. Custodial wallets and services often give some enticing benefits and perks like fee-less transactions for users using the same type of wallet. The way I see it, they used the same custodial wallet because it would be much more easier to move the funds and go further to convert it to fiat especially for his friend who sells the vitamins. Although custodial wallets may have several added benefits, it doesn't change the fact that using such wallets/services essentially means that we have transferred control back to the wallet provider. That's my point, if I can buy it with Euros or whatever, what's the point of spending something so valuable like Bitcoin? I view it like you're paying with a fraction of gold. Would you want to do that? I wouldn't, but that's my choice.

I am not discouraging you to use bitcoin to purchase of goods/medicines but since you know that bitcoin price is increasing every day, it will be good for you if you keep using fiat for these small purchases and keep the bitcoin save for future.

One of the benefits that Bitcoin could give but i do presume out on using the same custodial wallet because it does have zero fees which is mostly talking about internal transactions.

Just always remember that its not ideal to store up some coins on a custodial wallet since you dont possess the keys so it isnt really your coins after all if the exchange get hacked.

Side note, adoption is on the move and we do go further as the years passed by and we would be expecting lots of merchants will really be accepting crypto payments.

There is nothing wrong with storing a small amount of Bitcoin in a third party platform as long as it is actively being used.  I also do this kind of stuff and it is a huge discount to escape a blockchain transaction fee when paying someone using the same custodial wallet.  It also saves me a lot of time for travels and lining up to pay bills.

The use of crypto currency in this fashion is best way to boycott the fiat currencies. Obviously we still need the later one but if you want to futuristic, anonymous then here you, just switch to your bitcoin wallet and send the money. Unlike other UPI for example, GPay, an Indian payment wallet by Google is worst of all. You can send the money in simple manner but you expose the phone number of receiving party and either way is true too. So I don't like that one. I mean one can make 100+ transaction in single month for daily stuff and I would be exposing my personal details that way.

Peer to peer payments are complex. As long as we can't make direct purchases of pharmaceutical products with Bitcoin, I am not going to comment much. Here in India, it is not possible to purchase the medicines directly using Bitcoin. First you need to convert your Bitcoins to gift cards and then use these gift cards for the purchase. The second option is to top up your virtual credit card using Bitcoin and use it for the purchase.

Yeah, the wrong part was not really about the fee but about it being p2p, it was more like a Paypal transaction than a decentralized p2p payment.
Even if it's between two different wallets and it is a real blockchain transaction as long as there is a payment gateway between like coinbase or bitpay it shouldn't be counted as p2p.

But, sincerely, I think that at least in the near future those types of transactions would far outweigh real on-chain ones, just looking at the fees it makes them really impracticable, I don't know how much those vitamins cost as I know their price can range from a few $ to a few hundred but still a 5-10$ is a bit of turn-off. At the moment Bitcoin is succeeding as a store of value and we will see if in the future it becomes a means of payment, either by LN or by this type of transactions. Both me and the seller are using the same local centralized Bitcoin wallet app COINS.PH, so when transferring funds from one to the other, no fees charged. Unless if we choose to use a DEX wallet, of course there will be charges like you just mentioned. And by the way, the vitamins I've bought was worth more than $60 in value. I usually order every month as I take them 3 to 4 times daily.

Apart from that vitamins, I also order some optimizers like fish oil and supplements that are good for liver health and brain and he will be happy to accept Bitcoin again for these.

Great idea. Really. Mass adoption starts from everyone of us. In your situation it was a transaction for vitamins. I personally know people that made a deal with selling/buying car and one guy did not have enough money in dollars, they decided to transact the sum partially in Bitcoins. Everyone was happy. The other thing is that it is good when you have found such friends or trustworthy people that are ingaged into crypto world. Not everyone has such close and deeply involved into crypto people. I am a long time user of these vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, and I usually bought it from a licensed distributor here in the Philippines. The fees are the issue unless you bought a ton of vitamins to make it worth the transaction costs. It is not feasible at all to use Bitcoin for any minor transactions. What did actually happen to lightning channels, aren't they supposed to offer cheap transactions and if yes, why aren't widely adopted?

Many of the people here are wondering, in fact, I was also, about how the transaction went without a fee. But then I remembered something I did a week ago. It was CoinEx exchange and I transferred some of my CET tokens to a friend who is also on the exchange. I just needed his email id and the transfer was done in seconds. There were no transactional charges or on-chain records of it. It's just one account to another. OP did something similar if am not wrong, but it's not suggested to hold a big amount on a centralized wallet so be careful with that.

Bitcoin has been widely used for transaction fees for health or food and goods from other countries. What do you mean, Your country doesn't accept it? If anyone is living in a country where bitcoin is not legal, you cannot buy or sell anything in public. Usage of cryptocurrencies is prohibited  in those countries. You cannot just openly use bitcoins for your transactions.

but mine happens in online seller (via facebook market place) when i ordered a medicine in a seller in which introduced by a friend so i know he is Legit.

Glad that i experience the same thing recently mate , as the seller i met Online noted that he is also accepting cryptocurrencies though not specifically Bitcoin that i used for payment

Myself too discussed with friends who are into different businesses. Very few have known and used it, but they have never thought of adding it as a form of payment. The rest aren't much aware and if they make a single transaction they'll understand well. Everyone are educated and good to used technology applications. When I insisted on adding it as a payment, they fear of the government. Usage isn't legalized nor regulated, so if government make any immediate plans this could trouble their business.
