I once owned an electrum wallet and generated a seed phrase with 12 words. Currently I can't find my those words where I wrote them down and I didn't save it any where on my device. Before then I never bothered about those words because I felt once I have my userID and password I can assess my wallet from any device at any point in time not knowing the significance of this words

Could there be a recovery option for seed phrase or a seed generation alternative where I would be allowed to generate a new seed so as to access my lost account. I believe every data online should have a means on backup and recovery. Would seed phrase act differently? Why create a wallet for users if it doesn't have a way of helping them recover lost or stolen wallet.

In a cases where someone misplaces his seed phrase and still has his wallet accessible could there be a way of regenerating a new seed phrase for such wallet to avoid loosing the funds in the future. In all wouldn't it be more beneficial to store your coin with an exchange wallet where you wouldn't need to generate any form of seed phrase since all that is required is an email address and password.

so many has lost their coin just because of seed phrase. Which has made so many who bought coin as early as 2009-2018 who would have been celebrating their success frustrated. I know of a friend who was given 1000satoshi way back 2010 after he did a transaction and his client was unable to payback. His client ending up compensating him with the coin. But currently he cannot access his Trust wallet because he misplaced the seed phrase given. Does it really mean he has lost 1000 satoshi and can never recover it back if he can't find where he wrote them down?

The 12 seed phrase is the recovery method :/

In a case where someone misplaces his seed phrase and still has his wallet accessible could there be a way of regenerating a new seed phrase for such wallet to avoid loosing the funds in the future.
1. Open electrum.exe, choose your wallet file, enter your password to open your wallet.
2. Now in the top menu bar of your wallet click on wallet >> seed which will ask you to enter your password.
3. Enter your password, click on OK and the electrum wallet will display your wallet generation seed.

Seed phrases should never be saved electronically. You should only ever store them non-digitally, usually by writing them down on paper.

Could there be a recovery option for seed phrase or a seed generation alternative where I would be allowed to generate a new seed so as to access my lost account.
No. If you have lost your wallet file, then your seed phrase is your recovery option. If you have lost that too, then your wallet is lost forever.

I believe every data online should have a means on backup and recovery. Would seed phrase act differently? Why create a wallet for users if it doesn't have a way of helping them recover lost or stolen wallet.
Unless you are using a web wallet or exchange to hold your coins (which you shouldn't because doing so is incredibly high risk), then there is no online data to recover access to. Using a wallet like Electrum, everything is stored locally on your own device.

In a case where someone misplaces his seed phrase and still has his wallet accessible could there be a way of regenerating a new seed phrase for such wallet to avoid loosing the funds in the future.
Sure. If you can open your wallet in Electrum (provided it was generated from an Electrum seed phrase and not an imported seed phrase), then you can display your seed phrase again through the options menu.

In all wouldn't it be more beneficial to store your coin with an exchange wallet where you wouldn't need to generate any form of seed phrase since all that is required is an email address and password.
You don't see the problem of sending all your coins to a complete stranger who totally promises to keep them safe for you?

Dear Alisha-k,

If you believe that you are unable of taking note of those 12 words then you shouldn't be using electrum in the first place. Once you create an electrum wallet, I believe that the warning is more than enough to convince you that you have to watch out the seed phrase, because it's very important:

I felt once I have my userID and password I can assess my wallet from any device at any point in time not knowing the significance of this words
What is that userID and password you're referring to? There is no userID on electrum, only an optional password.

Could there be a recovery option for seed phrase or a seed generation alternative where I would be allowed to generate a new seed so as to access my lost account.
If there was such option, why would you, then, need to write down these 12 words? By saying "lost account" you probably mean "lost wallet"? There are no accounts such as bank accounts in this field. Only keys.

I believe every data online should have a means on backup and recovery. Would seed phrase act differently? Why create a wallet for users if it doesn't have a way of helping them recover lost or stolen wallet.
It does help them recover a lost wallet! It warns them that IF they write down these words, they can recover it whenever they need to. I hope that you do get that your electrum wallet isn't an “online data”. Those randomly generated words aren't stored anywhere online, you're responsible for your own funds.

In a case where someone misplaces his seed phrase and still has his wallet accessible could there be a way of regenerating a new seed phrase for such wallet to avoid loosing the funds in the future.
There is. If you open your wallet file (which is located on C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Electrum\wallets) that was generated and not imported, you can find it on keystore.

Here's an example:
Code:
"keystore": {
        "derivation": "m/0'",
        "pw_hash_version": 1,
        "root_fingerprint": "140583d8",
        "seed": "boost cute hover true ski reduce wide learn cotton bonus leg silk",
        "type": "bip32",
        "xprv": "zprvAYiD635NMn523mtqTBLAgfTfiTgpdoZsdCJkFn37LnBrmZZfvGMFDZTy5yXLFiU3f19SABEhsB5EV319GJJGq3PS8XaJzKNJUMQmXRMbDTZ",
        "xpub": "zpub6mhZVYcGC9dKGFyJZCsB3oQQGVXK3GHizREM4ASiu7iqeMtpTofVmMnSwHVyjNEQ8i8XXhNssMitSTQApMxozZhwd37ZPtLBhc3jdhtUFAe"
    },

As for this:

In all wouldn't it be more beneficial to store your coin with an exchange wallet where you wouldn't need to generate any form of seed phrase since all that is required is an email address and password.

I'll quote you why Bitcoin was created:

Old electrum wallet as far as I know will ask you to put password that you have to put again upon sending coins.

I will definitely try this. I do have an electrum old version wallet that still has about 0.0015 left back in 2015. The value of it was nothing back then maybe I can find the seed of it. I didn't open it anymore because I have not found its seed nor remember the password as well but glad I didn't delete it as I rarely use that old Lenovo.

While this is true, the better option for newbie users to open their wallet in Electrum as normal and either go to "Wallet -> Seed" on desktop, or tap their wallet name and then "Tap to show" under "Seed" on mobile. Not only is it easier than navigating to their wallet file, but there is a risk of corrupting your wallet if don't fully know what you are doing and you mess up your wallet file.

If you have neither the seed phrase nor the password, then the best option would be to use a program such as https://github.com/3rdIteration/btcrecover/ to attempt to brute force the password.

I can't tell because I have not made use of the electrum wallet
But for all I know the 12 phrase is a means of recovery and if you lose it you should consider your wallet gone

As for the wallet I make use of (imtoken) you can recover the 12 phrase word but you will have to input your wallet password
But in the case of the imtoken if you lose the two(12 phrase words and password) consider the wallet gone; because imtoken does not support recovery of password. And I think no wallet support that either

Yes I know this. But of course you must always know the seed phrase, even though you were able to back up it using your password. Once your phone got rekt or broken, and your only copy is on the phone then you are doom. You needed still the seed phrase for accessing the wallet if ever you want to use new device and password not gonna work anymore on that cause that is only for the device you used before.

One wallet has many addresses inside and not all people use changed addresses (that they should do). Little of people use all default receiving addresses.

Seed phrase will help to recover all wallet (all addresses) but if OP in the future want to recover one bitcoin address that is used to store his bitcoin, he can click on that address in Electrum wallet. Right click and choose Private key. Enter the wallet password and a private key for that address will be disclosed.

Quote
p2wpkh:L42xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

OP can practice to import one private key to get access to one bitcoin public address.

New/ Restore. Choose Import bitcoin address or private key. Set up a password for this recovery wallet. Check the receiving address that should be the same in the initial wallet.

Your seed phrase is the Alfa and Omega. Everything else, such as private and public keys, and the strings we call addresses are derived from that seed. The seed has to be 100% correct for you to gain access to the same keys that protect your coins. Bitcoin is all about making you the keyholder and putting you in control of your money. If seed phrases were stored as backup for users, that would defeat the whole process. That's what banks do.

Why create a wallet for users if it doesn't have a way of helping them recover lost or stolen wallet.
That's what the seed does, and that's what the individual private keys do. It's sad that you didn't realize their importance before.

Your other questions have been answered by other users multiple times.

because I felt once I have my userID and password I can assess my wallet from any device at any point in time
Is it true?

Do you really use Electrum wallet? Electrum wallet does not require UserID.  Huh

Do you mean User ID as name of your wallet file?

Quote
Could there be a recovery option for seed phrase or a seed generation alternative
Nope. If there are ways like that, Bitcoin is not secured and many bitcoin have been stolen. Additionally, Bitcoin will not have a price over $60000 if your bitcoin and its private key or mnemonic seed can be stolen by a stranger. They can steal yours if your devices are infected with malwares, viruses, etc.

Quote
In a cases where someone misplaces his seed phrase and still has his wallet accessible
  • If you write down all seed words but mixed their positions. You can try those words multiple times and finally you will get access to your wallet.
  • If you have access to your wallet, you can dump its private keys or export wallet seeds (people guided you already)

From now on, whenever you create one wallet, make sure you back up necessary things for recovery steps later.
  • Back up is not enough. You also have to do as follows
    • Checking the validity of the backup (Misplace in orders, miswrite the words, etc.)
    • If the validity of backup is checked and confirmed that is accurate and valid to use. Do the next step
    • Save it into multiple files (store it offline) and store it in multiple locations (should be water-proof, fire-proof, and in secret)

Well you should have written your seed phrase down in a paper to prevent further regrettable memory. Well same thing happened to me also where I could locate where I kept my seed phrase. We learn everyday so believe you can always learn from your past mistake. Just adhere to the advice/info that is been given here, it can help a lot. I come in peace!
