I don't really get what you are trying to point or to share here. It is possible for a hacker to get or gain access to your private keys even if there is no criminal knows where you live. That is why there are security measures you can use to help you secured your crypto. You can use different crypto wallet and choose what type of wallet.

I think OP's point is that users who tell quite a lot of people that they have crypto run the risk of losing their statsh, and OP is very much correct, there's a thread that stresses on this point: Why it's important to avoid telling everyone about your crypto holdings, scammers do not always have to hack your account by stealing your private keys or seed phrase, but there's also the possibility of a "$5 wrench attack" occuring (which is OP's point), and that's a situation where thieves compel you through physical damage to grant them access to your funds.

Having said that, many Bitcoin losses through physical damage could prolly have been avoided if the scammers didn't know the victims had Bitcoin, or by extension, if the victims didn't make their possession of Bitcoin privy to people, which makes them a target as a result.

Crypto isn't a very popular asset in my country right now but I'm already worried that once it becomes very popular many will be target, in my country crime is everywhere, people get kidnapped and ask their families for ransom, it's highly dangerous to let people know that you are into something that's worth more than gold, you will easily become a target, I think OP is 100% right

That is why we need privacy and be pseudonymous, making sure the cryptocurrencies we are having is not directly linked to us, we should be careful of the transactions we are making, and try all ways not to link ourselves to our bitcoin. If the thieves do not know us, then they can not come to steal from us. If we are having hardware wallet, we should put it in a place that will be safe that nobody will see it, we should limit what we will talk about cryptocurrencies, we should not make it obvious to people that we have bitcoin or any altcoin, we should avoid all these even friends can mistakenly expose someone and nobody can b me trusted, let us limit our conversations in regards to use of cryptocurrencies.

Another thing why I would prefer people around me to not know that I'm involved with crypto is the legal stuff. Crypto is an asset and you should pay taxes just for owning an asset, also you cannot exchange it by any means. You should have a license for being able to exchange your crypto here. Stupid, isn't it? They are trying to decentralize something that is created to be decentralized.

Rather than humble, a better-suited concept would be private, which is something that people are not normally concerned from the get-go, but instead, often they develop a sense of privacy awareness as times goes by. Of course the amounts of crypto you have may play a role, but to a thug that may be after it, it may boil down to being sufficient knowing it on Boolean terms (whether you have or don’t have crypto).

In terms of risk, it’s a bit similar to fiat stashed at home and blabbing about it, with a couple of variants:
-   fiat at home is easier to do away with, leaves no trace, and requires no skills to master (for the thug).
-   Crypto on the other hand inverts the above qualifiers.

Regardless, the two potential bad case scenarios are being robbed whilst at home, or being robbed whilst away from home. The former reduces the difference in the above two cases, since one can be cohered to collaborate. All in all, the more private, likely the better, just to be on the safe side.

I agree with you, especially in times when crypto is gaining so much value. I mean you don't tell people you have many ounces of gold at home either. But on the other hand, I can understand people who have become wealthy overnight through their crypto investments. It's part of the human DNA to mess around with it. But it must be clear that this can also have consequences and become dangerous.

I would first go for humble too. I mean that people bragging about Bitcoin may be perceived as ones having more money than they actually have, especially when Bitcoin price is on the rise and Bitcoin is all over the news.
Of course, private would mean no bragging at all, maybe not even telling anyone about the interest in Bitcoin. So yeah, it's somewhat debatable, but I'd say that both are needed.

And about the money / private keys at home, the problem is that even if one doesn't keep them at home, or keep them super safe and super encrypted, if that somebody was bragging and some think that he may have many coins, the 5$ wrench may come to action, breaking all those encryptions.

Where I'm from people don't like minding their own business, I locked my coins away and never talked about crypto to my neighbors like OP stated but many are curious because

1. My roof is full of solar panels
2. I have mining farm beside my home in same compound

The fact is they want to know what I'm running, I'm glad I have a compound but in future if they later find out that something is called crypto mining they can know what I've been up to all this while, anyways God forbid bad thing, let's get closer to God, only He can keep us safe, even those without crypto are been targeted. Good advise, there's nothing to brag about especially if you are holding a decent amount of crypto, that will make your life safer and you'll live in peace.  Just try to reflect on what satoshi did, he is now the richest crypto holder as he discovered bitcoin, but he choose to stay anonymous as he knows the risk associated of being popular and he will never live a normal life.

This reminds me of past year, I think in 2018/2019 when bitcoin Jesus and one other man are trying to fight for satoshi's sit, telling the world that they are the real nakamoto, the fact is some people want the world to know what they are worth, many are doing it presently and nothing hurts them, just know the type of people you will roll with, don't keep any bad company and you will be fine

Cryptocurrency is not legalized in every country. Why hide? The OP doesn't talk about it. He says that you shouldn't brag about your cryptocurrency.
Are crypto billionaires well known? Yes. But are you sure you have the same security as theirs? Are you sure that one day a guy from your city, out of despair or envy, knowing that you have Bitcoin, won't catch you with a wrench?
Yes, you will say that he will not be able to find out anything since you have Bitcoin in a reliable wallet. But getting a few times on the head, or another part of the body, will not make you healthier. Why risk it?
All religions say that vanity is a sin. And being too talkative and talking about your savings is what it means to be vain.

That is true, we should always keep our identity anonymous to anyone, we should also don't need to talk to anybody about what we are doing and how we earn money that things are personal so you need to keep it on yourself, there will be no benefits on you if you are going to tell it to someone who just asks you about it.

In the Philippines, a lot of my crypto contacts are non-stop bragging about their crypto portfolio. They say something with the “Thank you Lord God” caption along with the screenshot of their crypto earnings. Some of them have earned six to seven figures, and they never afraid about bragging their earnings. They might say that it can inspire people, but they never realized that it also creates jealousy as well and an opportunity for criminals to come by in their house and steal what they have.

As a result, some have commented that they wanna borrow money by coming to their house, etc. There’s even an incident where this person never stops bragging about the crypto portfolio and ended up getting beaten up by guys early morning just near the police station, stealing the wallet or so.

Yes it’s important to stay humble and safe as much as we can.

Yeh, I noticed a guy at work was always bragging he'd sunk a LOT of money into bitcoin before it went to $20,000 a couple of years ago then bragged then bemoaned when it started sliding downwards.

As Bitcoin reached $50,000 this year he went eerily silent about owning any Crypto.

Not to mention that most people have some sort of cash in the house. So, if you have a house a criminal is automatically going to assume that you have a stash somewhere. Most people I know have a safe or a private stash of money that isn't in a bank. So, you could actually argue that Bitcoin is safer than fiat since its not as easy to get too as the criminal isn't going to know exactly where it is, as opposed to a giant safe, that is usually in similar locations in peoples houses.

So, although I agree with the OP's message that you shouldn't be exposing your true wealth, or even boasting to have more than you do, unless you accept that you might become a target. We see this with higher ranked people in the world, if you own anything of value on the internet, you can bet your buck that multiple people are trying to guess the password or try, and reset it. So, whenever you expose you have something of particular value, you better either be quite confident in your security both on, and offline or at least have anonymity.

Bragging is going to be very different when it comes to other people. People tend to be jealous or outright hate you just because of that, and it could cause some stir with regards to your holdings.

That's not wise to outright tell everyone, but it's not wrong to help them as well. I mean not entirely, like how much you have, but what you have learned and gained, not in specific terms, but in how much Crypto has helped you. I think that's a better way to say it instead of bragging.

It would depend on your neighbors as well if they are not to be trusted or not. If you live in a community that is quite respectful of your privacy, then let it be.
