People have often compared crypto to stocks since owning a coin, represents your "share" of the decentralized blockchain network. Exchanges act as brokers in a similar fashion to traditional stocks. While stocks are fiercely regulated, crypto is the "wild west". Cryptocurrencies are extremely volatile, while stocks are much more stable. Despite crypto/Blockchain tech's popularity, stocks are still preferred by mainstream investors and traders alike.

Which asset types do you think are better: crypto or stocks? Is crypto getting closer to becoming regulated just like stocks? What do you think will happen if institutional investors come into play? Will stocks transition themselves to the Blockchain? Or is it still too early to tell? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley

Stock is so much stable than crypto and holding stocks takes longer to actually make big money out of them than crypto, in crypto cycle the highest you can hold and wait is four years but stock requires longer years to actually make insane amount of money

For me the choice is cryptocurrencies following are the reasons :.

1. You don't have to wait for a specific time to sell your Cryptos

2. You do have better options to invest since there is no minimum or maximum requirements.

3. Cryptos are mostly controlled by people and not any institution or body so it kind of bounces back and is not dependent on one downfall

4. It's more secure and more anonymous ofc not entirely

5. You can use it as a currency also and send money to around the world at much lesser rates.

Etc...

Honestly the list goes on but I do like crypto better more Volatility means more chances of earning in trading !

I love crypto and stocks. many say stocks are relatively few in terms of returns, whereas crypto has a 1000% return. Regardless of the advantages and disadvantages, I am very grateful for the presence of crypto and stocks that have changed the way people think about investing. although I would still choose crypto as a handle. because honestly I was made to fall in love with crypto. not because of the benefits alone, but because of the freedom to organize, send, receive and what crypto has to offer.
I'm still young, and I don't want to be left behind with the growth of crypto, which has become a place to store personal finances for the future.

One thing I would like to state here is that Stocks and crypto both have almost different intent. Most of the cryptocurrencies are created with the intent that they could be used as a medium of the transaction so what's the point of holding them as an investment? While yes it's true that some projects do create crypto with the intent of raising money but stocks are still better. Reasons are simple if you buy stocks of some company you actually get to control the company and its decisions that thing is not possible with cryptos even if you have majority coin holding with you. The company is not legally bound to listen to you. So for businesses and investments, stocks are better. But trading is a game of volatility and the crypto market is an ocean of volatility. You get the most profits while trading in a volatile market only.

I don't have any other investment when I've entered crypto and to me, crypto is always been better than stocks. In my experience, that gave me good profit even though I'm not really a trader but with holding it, gave me cash which I've made by just doing nothing.

I now start to see mainstream and stock investors going into crypto. They're also adopting and they probably have understood that volatility is an advantage to them since they're also risk takers.

For me, crypto is much better than stocks in some ways but there are some that stocks are better than crypto. For crypto, it makes a bigger profit at such a short time when compared to a stock which takes over a decade to even possibly reach 1/4 of the growth of crypto in a year. For stocks, they are more insured compared to crypto which means that there is no possibility of going home losing in stocks if they or you lost it unlike crypto where you are your own bank.

In my case crypto is better. Stocks require too much regulation and it is not accessible to a lot of people. With crypto it is much easier to invest in it and there are many other use cases beyond simply just buying it and waiting for the value to go up. It can be used as a payment, you can gamble with it, interact with smart contracts and so many other things.

Each has their own merits of investing though, crypto still has an uncertain future since it isn't as old as stocks yet which means that in the next 50 years, they might be worthless unlike stocks that has proven to last that long although you can't gain a big profit in such a short time with stocks so to each of their own.

Talking on regulation or if crypto has come close to regulation, the world is adopting cryptocurrency but blockchain does not have anything to do with regulation itself. Countries can regulate or limit crypto transactions in their area alone, they can not have power over other nation's crypto practice.

It is not early to talk about regulation because people are already investing hugely to avoid certain scam.

I hold both Bitcoin (not crypto, just Bitcoin) and stocks. Bitcoin has been the most profitable asset of the last decade and looks set to remain so in the next decade and beyond. In addition, it has other advantages that I believe have been well enumerated by fiulpro:

Etc...

I started investing in the stock market long before I started investing in Bitcoin and I guess that's why I keep it, purely for diversification.

I think both crypto and stock are two different kind of investment. In stock you are investing in a company and you got some share for your participation, while in crypto you are investing in a speculative token that have nothing to do with the company.
But if you asking for which one is more profitable, I can say it is crypto.

While stocks are fiercely regulated, crypto is the "wild west".

I wouldn’t agree that crypto is completely a “wild west”, because a lot of it is already regulated in many countries. First of all, I mean completely legal trading and tax policy, and the fact that cryptocurrencies are used as a completely legal means of payment.

Thank you. Smiley

I don't think you can expect people on the crypto forum to say that they value stocks more than crypto, not only because crypto has brought extremely high profits to many, but also because cryptocurrencies are something that can allow people not to be completely dependent on the existing financial system. Many therefore disapprove of the growing interference of banks and various other institutions in the crypto sphere because they feel that the noose around the idea of decentralization is tightening.

Institutional players are already there, at least the ones we know about publicly - but I personally think there are many more who have been investing in crypto under the radar for years. Their problem (if it can be called that at all), is that they traditionally trust stocks or gold more than Bitcoin, but this is quite understandable, especially with older investors who will hardly or not at all change their habits.

You can't really compare them, even in cryptos you aren't neccessarily investing to the protocol, but being a speculative trader of some placeholder token. Meanwhile owning a stock makes you literally a share holder. And i am not talking about synthetic "stocks" or derivatives that you can trade in crypto exchanges.

I don't think these two can be comparable because it will depend on individual preferences like if you are a person who is more challenging and risky then crypto would suit your taste but if you prefer the less risky and stable one then the stock would be better for you. I don't think crypto would be completely regulated due to the fact that most of the coins here are decentralized and it can be only regulated through centralizing exchanges. If you would ask me I prefer crypto of course since it is more volatile meaning more profitable in a single amount of time but could also dangerous if it the market dumps, so basically investing in crypto market is like a double-edged sword.

Thank you. Smiley

I think there a some quite big differences between stocks and cryptos. For example, with stocks you tend to get dividends, so for HODL investors it is nice if you have a decent dividend return on your portfolio. While with cryptos we don't usually earn money during HODL, only when we sell the coins. Also institutional investors are already heavily invested into bitcoins, without their large wallets I wouldn't expect Bitcoin to be around 60,000 USD. So the more investors we see in the future, the higher price should be.

It depends on what you mean by better.  I happen to think that stocks are better if you're talking about retirement accounts and owning investments that provide income (in the form of dividends).  The latter is one thing that bitcoin doesn't provide, although other coins do--and I'm thinking of proof-of-stake coins in particular here.  And as far as owning stocks vs. bitcoin for the long term, I'd have to go with stocks simply because they're much less volatile and have a longer track record.

But if you're talking about trading and making short-term profits, I'd say crypto is the way to go (although you could certainly make money trading stocks).

Will stocks transition themselves to the Blockchain?
Now that would be interesting.  I'd love it if you could buy and sell stocks 24 hours a day like you can with crypto, and I think the 9:30am-4pm M-F stock market hours are quaint but very outdated.  I think if blockchain technology could be incorporated into the stock market, that might just become a reality.

But in any case, stocks and crypto are two different things even though they have some similarities.  Bitcoin can be used as a currency, whereas stocks certainly can't.  In that respect I think of bitcoin as closer to gold--at least in the old days when it was used as money--than stocks.  But that's a comparison that's been made ever since the beginning of bitcoin, and it's a tired one IMO.

Cryptocurrencies are secure, decentralized, and don't need KYC to own after the ICO phase.
Functions such as providing profits from the staking of cryptocurrencies are the same as the annual dividends of stocks.
You can trade cryptocurrencies 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.
Trading stocks will get more complicated because we have too many rules that apply to the exchanges or how to convert stocks.

Many people says that crypto market and stock market are the same in which if you know how to trade in stocks or how to buy a stocks in which you will be having a good profit, you can also do it on the stock market which is wrong because in stocks it is like buying some limited amount of shares in one's company but in crypto you are just buying some tokens and coins in which you can sell immediately if it pumps up not like on stocks you will wait the company to become good and successful in order to grow your shares.

Which asset types do you think are better: crypto or stocks?

If you ask which is the better of them.  So it depends on which side you want to compare.  For me, as an appraiser of investment instruments in terms of risk, the types of stocks and crypto have the same risk, namely volatile but the levels are much more volatile than stocks, besides stocks have a clear basis, namely the company and its production factors, while Crypto does not have it and only focuses on demand.  and offers on the market.  However, everyone who has a high risk, the return will be much higher too.  If you are a resk taker then crypto is better.
