The Curious Case of "markeris" and the Coinsbit Exchange Scammers

I received a PM this morning from a user I never knew about: markeris

He claims to have received thousands of USD$ worth of XRP without even knowing about it when he ended up receiving more XRP than he requested when withdrawing and on top of that he claims it was all done at a known scam exchange: Coinsbit

Upon checking the history at the time I found a handful of posts but when taking a screenshot just a few minutes ago all the previous posts (except one) have been deleted. This account was created in February 2018 yet shows no post history.

I guess this explains it. Maybe the account has just been purchased or has just changed hands.

Did anybody else receive the same message from markeris?

This is the same person who recently claimed that he was scammed by Goku Market exchange. Why would he particularly send you a PM and not post in public for everyone to see.

He hasn't even presented any evidence to back up his claims. I am thinking that he's lying to you. Given that you were so much involved in busting the coinsbit scam, he and coinsbit could probably be looking for a way of gathering your private info and probably use it to dox you in the future once you rush over there, register and try performing an XRP withdrawal as a way of confirming if his claims are true.

I don't know why he chose JollyGood in particular, but I've had members PM me in the past with issues like this--probably seeing one of my posts on a related matter and thinking I could help and/or get involved with their plight.  Yes, it would be much better had this member started a thread about this, but that's how you and I think and others might not even consider it.

Maybe, but what would be his motivation for just sending JollyGood a PM that was lying to him about something?  JollyGood, did you make any posts about Coinsbit as was claimed in the PM?  If not, that would just be bizarre.  If so, I still don't see what he'd gain by lying to a member through a PM that he doesn't even know.  Then again, people have done much stranger things on this forum before.

Yeah, He and mosprognoz created some threads in scam accusations highlighting how coinsbit is a scam along with a group of other scam exchanges that were as well considered to be owned by the same people. They also identified a number of bump bots during the process

Anyway @markeris' motive isn't clear, but it's better to be cautious especially if one could be a target of revenge. I think I remember some member who ended up getting hacked and their PMs exposed due to such tricky messages.

Because by doing that ^{[making up a story with a popular scam tactic in a public thread]}, he/she knows what will be the end result ^{[publicly getting busted and receiving tons of negative ratings]}.
^{- I regularly see all kinds of excuses for that x2/x3 scam tactic and this looks like an act of revenge and an attempt to scam JollyGood.}

I posted in that Goku Market thread, thank you for the link but I have no idea why he selected me to send the PM. Maybe others have received a copy and paste PM but they have not yet read this thread. Haivng said that I had never even heard of Goku Market before, I had to look it up to find out what it was.

There is a possibility that was the motive behind the PM but seems unlikely because it would be going to such extremes. Another possibility is that he did not really lose XRP at Goku Market Exchange, he is just shilling for Coinsbit at the expense of Goku Market.

I never made any claims and he did not mention any claims I made, he was saying that if you send XRP to Coinsbit then withdraw them they will accidentally double or triple the withdrawal. Obviously what he is saying is nonsense but the motive behind sending me (and possibly others) the PM is unknown. You are right stranger things have happened here in the forum. Maybe whatever his plan was hopefully has now been nipped in the bud.

I really appreciate the advice. I will definitely try my best to keep away from falling in to any kind of trap. This particular one has so far baffled me because he is trying to entice me in to sending XRP to the Coinsbit scammers or he is hoping I would send XRP to him so he can send them to Coinsbit on my behalf but I would never see them again...

Yeah, that could be the case.  Anyway, I tagged him too although it probably doesn't matter all that much, since it's probably a throwaway account that'll never be active again--but better safe than sorry, right?

I get that now, whereas I didn't see it clearly at first when I read his PM to you.  That definitely looks like it could be a revenge-seeking PM, hoping you're greedy enough to try to exploit some bug that would make you a huge profit with XRP.  Anyway, there's nothing you can do, and this is just one more dickhead that was exposed in public.  Move on and continue being smart enough not to fall for crap like this.

For some reason, it's most likely an act of revenge because as I've researched the word "Coinsbit" it seems you're fighting/busted their illegal activities here on the forum since the year 2019 and until now.  From paid shill or sock-puppet account and making a thread that they are a Ponzi scheme, probably this might be their reason trying you to fall into their trap through sending unsolicited PM that might they think you will try to exploit the bug that they said.

I tend to agree above, this might an act of revenge, and better to move on.  Leaving negative feedback is quite enough not to use this account.  I may think now how many accounts they have, they'd made a sock-puppets account, there's no reason they made this account for that intention, good thing you're smart enough and didn't bite the trap.

Thank you for the comments. Yes there were several of us that went after the sock-puppets that were flooding the Coinsbit threads and we defended the victims that were selectively scammed so they definitely did not like me and a few others.

Those sock-puppets are no longer pumping their ANN thread and it is fading in to obscurity as it should. Whatever it was that markeris intended to do is hopefully foiled now with him receiving red tags therefore just as you and The Pharmacist have suggested I will move on.
