Why we need a mobile compatible forum??

Why exactly BTT is not able to adopt to the current requirement? Almost everyone who registers has a mobile phone. Almost everyone who wants to be active in the forum uses a mobile phone. Almost everyone globally uses mobile phone.

Why are we still in an era which never thought about mobile phones? If we can add mechanism to solve spam, why we cannot upgrade the forum to become mobile compatible? I have to zoom in and zoom out every time I visit the forum on my mobile. As a member I request a compatible mobile forum.

I don't mind the zooming tbh and I don't think most of us do.

I'm not sure how easy it would be making this forum mobile friendly too, would you put user stats at the top of posts or have it in the current format?

There was a mobile app for the forum. That used to exist but it made the forum kinda small and I think it was quite untrusted too.


You might be better off designing something and taking it to Theymos.

There are simpler versions of the forum you can use for browsing though too if you don't want to zoom but I don't think you can reply to posts with those.

This is what you call bargaining from a position of extreme weakness.  You've invested nothing in the operations of this forum and therefore have no grounds to demand anything from it.

In addition, this request for a mobile-friendly site was the topic of a fairly recent thread which you apparently missed--and there have been quite a few threads in Meta about this exact same thing since you registered in 2018.  We don't need another thread about this.  Theymos could do it if he wanted to, but for whatever reason he's not making bitcointalk mobile-friendly right now.  I think whenever this new software pipe dream package finally gets released, you might be in luck....but until then, forget about it.

All that said, I happen to agree with you that it's crazy this site is not mobile-friendly when pretty much every other forum you can think of is in 2021.  I don't access bitcointalk from my phone anymore, so it doesn't bother me one bit, but I do understand your frustration.  Unfortunately there's nothing you can do about it.  Make all the demands you want, but all you'll be met with is deafening silence.

I don't know if you know about the thread Bitcointalk Mobile Friendly App for Android or not. It's an unofficial Firefox addon created in 2018. It hasn't been updated since June 2018 and the OP is no longer active on Bitcointalk either.

It's your choice if you want to risk losing your account by installing and using this app. The developer isn't negatively tagged, at least that is something.

How is he harassing you exactly? He agrees with you that the forum should have a mobile app, but he doesn't agree with you that you can make demands. And he is right. You did say that you are demanding a mobile-friendly forum. This is not a place where theymos or anyone else will make your dreams come true, so you can't demand anything. And it has nothing to do with how old your account is. You can make a polite request and state reasons why you think it should be granted.

The current system in my opinion is quite good and normal, even though you are using an android smartphone.

Many problems that arise when the forum uses 'compatible' can sometimes cause forum access / application crashes / errors causing access not smoothly, not all of us use the same android for the reason:
• The screen size does not support, sometimes the Android that is used sometimes cannot be used with a tablet or smartTV. This can make access to the forum unreadable.
• Certain smartphone hardware / Chipset usually does not support including the existing CPU, with this problem it can make you unable to access the forum.
• It could also be a weak Android version, sometimes in some countries where the application is banned and cannot be accessed. (VPN)

There are many reasons the Bitcointalk forum does not use an application system that may not be supported by a 'compatible' system, I think the current system is very good and professional for those who use the Bitcointalk forum in all countries, you can access it via Chrome and smartphones.

The forum is already mobile compatible. You just need to learn to hold your phone horizontally. Pro tip: Use your both hands. It feels a lot better. Because of this bad habit people still do record their videos vertically and I hate it every time I see it.

Why do we need a mobile site on this forum when the forum is already mobile compatible? It will be good but I have been able to access the forum easily on my mobile phone, the pages are easily loading and I have excellent user experience. I do most of the time access this forum with mobile phone and I did not even know I am zooming in and zooming out because I am use to it without even knowing.

Second, the funny thing is that I access the forum mostly through my mobile phone and the experience is quite wonderful but there's something I am yet to understand about the OP statement are you referring mobile App? If that's what this is all about I don't support the idea.

I'm not the one who thinks a forum he doesn't own owes him something, bro.  And no, I didn't write what I wrote because you weren't "involved in those initial days".  Part of the reason is that you seem to have missed all of the threads about this same topic since you've been a member here--which I specifically stated in my post.  My point was that it's a request that's been made many times, has been ignored and will continue to be ignored, and also that another thread about a mobile-friendly version of this forum isn't necessary.

I happen to agree, even though as I said I don't access the forum through my phone anymore.  When I did, it really wasn't that big a deal that there wasn't a mobile-friendly version (though I would have preferred otherwise).  The worst part of it for me was trying to type with my fat thumbs.  Even using a stylus on the tiny phone keyboard was a pain in the ass.

Mobile-friendly really just means a responsive web design which is supposed to solve the problem of having to scroll horizontally across desktop pages on a mobile phone to view the content. As you can see there is no horizontal scroll bar in this picture, the text automatically wraps itself and the line wrap in the screenshot is even different from the length on your desktop.

Since you are using the forum for free, I think that you use a bit strong words. Asking it nicely would be the way to go...
Keep in mind that there are plenty of people that can handle this forum as it is and may be way more active than you for much longer.

Still, I understand the problem fully. I also have Android and I also have to either rotate the screen, either zoom in or out. And editing, especially quoting, is even more difficult.
But although I am pretty much active, I mostly read from the phone and avoid posting, since, as others said, the keyboard is also not that easy to use.

All in all, get the said Firefox add-on, maybe ask nicely to get it improved. And wait.


At some point the new forum software may come out, and that will have better mobile view. Of course, I'm waiting for so many years I don't even know if I want the new software.
So.. yeah... all you actually need is more patience.

You can make request, but you also need to be sensitive that before your request is made, someone else wants the same thing as you but is unsuccessful. I don't know why theymos haven't considered the request to this day, but I'm sure only a few percent feel uncomfortable using forum on mobile while others don't mind it.

My previous forum activity was mostly done from mobile rather than PC since I signed up I had no issues including zoom in/ out. Even though they never grant a request, I won't make a fuss as long as it works as it should and doesn't reduce anything. Also, it might not be good if you seem to be challenging the people here regarding your request.

They (wap, wap2, imode) only work if posts don't have tables. It will turn to be a weird and unfriendly version if posts, pages have tables.

With such limitations, wap, wap2, imode are unnecessary and not helpful. I've never felt bad when I browse the forum on my mobile. Good and friendly enough.

I am also logged my BTT account in my mobile, on different browsers which provides different text sizes.

If you are still not okay with it then use the desktop mode in your browser then try zoom in. Forums made for discussions and smartphones are not really designed to type long articles so its simple use Ipads or desktop which give better position for healthy discussions.

several times opened Bitcointalk on my smartphone and it looks very comfortable even though i have to zoom in/out screen....you only need adjustments self. ^{(if you use a translator)}

imo not building btt apps is the attraction of this forum, unlike reddit.

Nor is it that writing 150 characters is so difficult in the current version on a mobile ...

Most of users write at least between 100 and 200 characters, they don't need an App for that. In any case, it may be that the size of your phone is part of your problem.

Everything in BTT has its particular style, think about it sometimes to make certain posts require an extra touch than just typing 150 characters or 1000.

So, having to wait to use a laptop or desktop, it has its charm. Anyway,  for someone who writes on average only text at max 200 characters should give you the same...

The most people who whines are the new ones yet this old forum members doesn't give a damn about this zooming issue. It's a good initiative if the admins consider for the mass regarding it but it has been suggested too many times and the answer will always be that they are developing the new forum software.
