Yes it seems google will not display your own website in top results if you are logged in to Google.
Seems like the homepage and about page dropped off a couple days after I added "NotATether' keyword to the footer. Though a google update is more likely to be the cause, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if ironically this thread ranks on the front page for this keyword because of this post. I had a snafu with a comment I made to the Scamdoc website that had "very bad trust rating" written on it and now that's on the front page too
Did you try to run the domain through the Google Search Console to see if there were any issues that could be causing the bad indexing?
All my pages are indexing well - it's been linked to Search Console for a long time now. What's astounding is there's a bunch of high domain authority websites with the word NotATether in it (which I get) followed by a bunch of results of gibberish on the first page, and my domain is completely invisible now.
