There is a new coin listed in CMC which immediately went up to the 8th position within just one day.

The main company behind this coin is dfinity. Org. Which seems to be another coin with smart contract capability with great scaling opportunity. I mean we have many other coins of Similar sort.

What's special about this one?

It just so happen that it popped out on the list and became at the top coins. I know what's the reason why it suddenly appeared on the top list but I don't know what's so special about it.

And the reason is because of the listing it made on Binance.

The project has been huge and active since before 2018, the capital raised is enormous and the vision is ambitious.
The debut on major exchanges makes me very bullish but I think there is too much hype now and dfinity is a long-term project.
A bear market could make you buy the token at a cheaper price.

Ill throw in a few big name projects who were in this position, NEO, EOS, TRON and IOTA,
These too were top 10 coins in their day,  now they are sliding into the 20's, 30's and beyond,
replaced by new top 10 coins who themselves will be replaced by shiny new listed projects like ICP

They didn’t came from any form of investment since they already have the funds to support for it and they only made an Airdrop which I also don’t know if its legit or not. It looks like projects nowadays can easily reach the top without any experience in the market, I’m still on a search about ICP and looking for the main reason why they placed on top easily, something is good about this project for sure.

Do Binance has this kind of influence which can make a coin to come to the top 10 within one day of listing? If yes, then it's certainly bad for a claimed decentralized economy.

I also don't see an option to mine or stake this cryptocurrency anywhere. Is the only way to get ICP is through exchanges? Or there is any other way?

It's a pretty big project that raised a lot of money back in 2017 or 2018 i think then it was silent for a long time until a few months ago. Also there was a airdrop of this coin back in 2018 where you had to pay the KYC-fee for the airdorp yourself (around 9$ in ETH) then you would get 28 ICP for that. Some users even got 119 ICP if they were in their telegram channel early. A small percentage (<10%) of this airdrop and i guess also of the coins of the sale are now unlocked and the project is just so big and hyped that the big exchanges immediately listed it.

To be honest, their choice of name for their coin is really awful. It's kinda a meme name for me.
I haven't yet deep-dived into this project, but I think this is huge, especially because of the market cap and listing on huge exchanges.

Another thing is, as far as I remember, this project started around 2016 - 2017. So for me, probably this is very huge, the development process was very long.

i've also heard of that dfinity project before but i never thought its really a big project. their ticker isn't ICP as far as i know.
so there is money from airdrop. you got to wonder how this sudden rise of price. anything that you learn about it or announcement they did?

This is the first time I heard about this token...

What caught my eye, this token reminded me of last year's Polkadot which immediately entered the top 10 of Coinmarketcap. I saw on their dfinity.org, big media like TechCrunch, WSJ, Forbes, and BI wrote articles about ICP. at this high price, I'm not sure it will attract many investors.

I made a research about this coin and noticed it did presale on coinlist exchange platform.
This platform had conducted a huge and high profile projects from her beginning, this coin is not the first conducted there, and such the projects that conducted their presale often be the best with huge jilime and high community support, casper, dfinity, flow, clover, Rally and many others to be mentioned.

ICP is currently priced at $350 after being priced at $630 on Coinbase and high as $3093 on Binance.

You are right, internet computers were first introduced on coinlist in 2018, they also held an airdrop on coinlist.  Airdrop participants get 100 or 300 ICP tokens. Yesterday the ICP token reached ATH after being listed on the Binance exchange. The current ICP price has dropped 50% from the ATH price. Looks like a pretty good time to make an entry.

No, I guess cmc puts it on the top 10 list based on its volume cap, but how is it possible that only opening trades (based on cmc chart) since May 10 have reached such a large volume?

maybe because of the big fomo of binance, then this project has been created for a long time but it will only be released now when the market conditions are bullish if it is not good, then binance will not list the project but we'll see if this project can survive.
Investing in a new project that has high hype has an advantage now, as the price can go up in a short period of time.

Just read about it. It is a good projects but as you say, there have been too many in the same category. However, this project seems to be invested by different institutions and individual sharks. Maybe it is a good coin to invest but according to what I see, if a new coin can get to the top 5, soon it will slowdown the trend and be pullback because of people taking profit

If my memory serves me correctly then in recent times another coin which got listed into top 10 rank was palkadot.

Already we have Hedera and BSC which are promising for providing solutions to scaling problems and being considered for heavily competitors for etehreum in the sector of dapps. So, having another one is definitely not a surprise in this decentralized environments.

This is the worse situation when it bullish market, coins with no genuine use case, potentials and utility will make a ridiculous surge in price the next thing you'll see is hype follower investors buying the coin for some quick profit whereas the bubble will burst sooner or later.
I check CMC today either, I also saw the coin and I was amazed by some new coins that claimed the top #100 slot on CMC

Your comment reminds me of EOS and the billions it has raised some years ago. Still they couldn't bring forward any considerable innovation. No clue how much money they have left but it goes to show that massive funding is only one part of the puzzle to build a blockchain project that offers value to its users beyond just being a tradable asset.
