Hello All,
Please confirm something with me.

1) As long as you have your original 24 word seeds written down, if you lose, break your Trezor, you can order another one and input those seeds into it to recover your coins?
This is what I believe to be true.. but someone was telling me that if you lose/damage your Trezor cold wallet, you lose all your coins.

2) I ordered a Trezor Model T and I want to transfer all my coins from the Trezor One to the Model T. Can I just install my old seeds onto this new wallet?
I emailed Trezor over a week ago asking this question but I haven't heard anything back.
Basically I want to transfer from my old wallet to a newer wallet.

You can recover using your 24 words seed. The private keys of the addresses that you use in Trezor are all generated from that seed. You'll be able to recover all your addresses if you ever break it using a BIP39 compatible wallet with the appropriate derivation path or just another Trezor.

Remember that your coins are not stored in the hardware wallet itself so that if your wallet is gone, destroyed, stolen, confiscated, and so on, your coins are also gone. No, it does not work that way. Your coins are all stored in the blockchain. Your hardware wallet only stores the private keys, which give you access to your coins. Your 24-word seed is all that matters. It holds everything.

Yes, as what already stated above, but in case that it will take time for you to buy a new device, you can import that 24 seed words to electrum, note that it's only for emergency situations.

Yes you can. Because the 24 word seed is a back up in the first place.

Just to note though, have you only written down the 24 words on a piece of paper and NOT store them on a txt file, an email, or anywhere digital? If so, you definitely want to generate a new wallet for security purposes.

As above, you can import your 24 word seed phrase in to any BIP39 compatible wallet and recover your coins, provided you have not set an additional passphrase (or multiple passphrases) on your Trezor. The guide on how to do this is available here: https://wiki.trezor.io/Passphrase. If you have set up one or more wallets which are using an additional passphrase, then you need both your seed phrase and the additional passphrase(s) to recover any coins stored within these wallet(s). The seed phrase on its own only gives you access to the base wallet.

You can, if you are certain that your seed phrase remains secure and uncompromised. Have you ever restored it to any other wallet before? Have you ever stored it anywhere digitally? Is there any possibility anyone else could have seen it or accessed it? If you are in any doubt, then its safe to create a new seed phrase on your new Trezor T and send your coins across.

Your seed words are more important that your Trezor hardware wallet device, that can be damaged, destroyed, lost or stolen but you can always restore your funds in you keep backup phrase in safe place.
In theory it is possible that you can lose your coins if you don't use 25th word passphrase, than someone steals your wallet, hack it and extract your seed words.

If you kept your old seed words safe and never exposed to internet than you can simply import seed words into your new Trezor model T device and don't waste any coins on transaction fees.
You can use both wallets, or you can reset your old Trezor One wallet and use it as totally new device.

I would just like to let you know that your Model T / Model One hardware device (as dkbit98 said) doesn't actually hold any kind of coins - most people choose using hardware wallets because all the seed words are generated in an external and safe environment ("inside" your Model T / Model one device). By using such device you ensure that no one is going to know what are your private keys because they were all "conceived" in an external device that isn't connected to the internet.

Since these devices only allow you to "unlock" your balance on the blockchain - by using your private keys - you can easily recover access to your coins in the blockchain provided that you still have the seed words that were used in the process of setting up your device. Always make sure that you access the real website of Trezor in order to manage your assets - https://wallet.trezor.io - They will NEVER ask you to enter your seed words, so please be very careful where you put them / store them.

Provided that company implements the BIP39 standard for seed phrases, then yes. Most major wallets (both hardware and software) do this. Certainly the major ones such as Ledger and Trezor have no issue importing seed phrases generated on each other, and in an emergency you can recover your hardware wallet seed phrase to a software wallet such as Electrum (although doing so compromises the security of your coins, so as I said, should only be done in an emergency).

I don't like using web wallets, so I would suggest downloading open source Trezor Suite wallet software or even better use Electrum wallet and use it with your Trezor device.

You can import the same seed words in most of the other hardware wallets (coldcard and ledger for example) because they are all supporting BIP39 format.
They can be imported also in software wallets like Electrum but I would recommend this only if you are using offline airgapped computer.

I would never recommend doing this especially if your hw have been lost or stolen.
The safest thing to do is to import your seed into a temporary wallet that supports bip39 seeds then immediately send your coins to your new hardware wallet.

According to this article https://www.ledger.com/our-shared-security-responsibly-disclosing-competitor-vulnerabil an advanced attacker with physical access to your Trezor wallet (depending on which firmware it uses) can perform a side-chain attack and guess your PIN.

I agree.  I tried to give out some merits but I don't have any.

The thing with the seed words, in my mind, is not to get too crazy with trying to hide them from others.  There are people who lost them, forgot where they put them or died without telling anyone where they are.

Well, kind of. You will always be able to use your seed phrase to recover your private keys, which will allow you to spend/transfer/move your coins, but you never take your coins "off" the blockchain. All coins are always on the blockchain; the only thing you have in your hardware wallet is the private keys which correspond to those coins.

Trezor T creates 12 word seed phrases by default, while the Trezor One creates 24 word seed phrases by default. However, by using the command line interface you can generate a 12 or 24 word seed phrase (or a 18 word seed phrase) with either device. You can also restore seed phrases of 12, 18, or 24 words to both devices, so your plan of restoring your 24 word seed phrase from your Trezor One to your new Trezor T is entirely possible.

oeleo gave your correct info.  BUT:

** This info below has been mentioned well above in this thread but the OP still seems to be asking questions making me think he has missed this point:

I wanted to add something just as a precaution for you, not knowing how you have handled the 24 word SEED from your Trezor ONE.  The key to secure SEED is that it is never entered on any computer that is/has been online.  In other words "assume" the computer you connect any Trezor to is infected (its a safe way to paradigm).  When you setup the Trezor 1 you would have written the SEED down on a piece of paper and NOT placed on a computer (hopefully).  During setup the T1 would cycle through the SEED words on the device screen and you would write them down.  Good if that is how you did it!  Now over time IF you ever restored that Trezor ONE, meaning you had to enter the SEED on the device again, it would ONLY have been possible using a screen on your computer/Android.  That could be VERY bad if the computer used is an online machine either currently or in the past.  Your new Trezor T can be easily restored by entering the SEED words ONLY on the device screen itself leaving the computer out of the process, which protects the security of the SEED (it NEVER sees a computer during the process).  This is especially easy using trezorctl, in fact SIMPLE.

I typed the above to say that IF you ever exposed your SEED to a computer that is NOT AirGap, installed using offline Tails, or a similar RAM based method it might be wise to consider a NEW SEED setup.  Creating new SEED on a Trezor T is fast and secure.  Of course this means you would have to transfer the coins from the old wallet to the new one.  If you are using bc1 address format its not that costly to be sure your SEED has never been seen on any computer.  Easy for me to say/type because I have been at this for 10 years now, LOL!
