That seems like a lot of work.  In so many other forum's software there is just a little notification that shows up that you have been quoted.  Can't the forum owner activate that?

I don't get how this is at all an acceptable solution.. sure given the means to work with, it's quite elegant, but come on, a telegram bot for something as trivial as notifications?

This should have been a base functionality years ago and the fact that it still isn't is nothing short of embarrassing.

It's not. There's a given format in that thread already on how would you subscribe.
Just read and follow how other users there used the format along with the given option/s and code-tags. Smiley

Come on... all the inefficiencies nostalgic features and convoluted systems and interfaces anti-spam and decentralized trust solutions are just either ancient forum software SMF intricacies or post-scam preventative measures necessities in this decentralized space! Maybe when the forum is updated more often than the April Fool's joke epochtalk is finished. Oh well, you know what they say: if you don't like the forum, fuck off leave.

Now that I think about it, how would the native notifications work? I mean, if you are away from your computer with just your phone or smart watch, how would you know when someone is talking to you? Maybe through email? Otherwise, you would probably still need to visit the forum to find out where you've been mentioned, which isn't ideal for me.

Feasible forum-based solution if theymos did not rate-limit a superuser account: to search through new posts for [quote author=$user] tags or for notification-registered usernames and to PM them. Since you can output your Bitcointalk PMs into your account email, you can use this as an IoT solution to extend further.

If he wanted to simply incorporate it into the accounts without such a proxy via an actual implementation, you could have a list that looks similarly to the merit history page.

Most forums give you too much info.  When I've logged into other forums there would be a little number next to your name which represented the number of times you got quoted since your last login.  Click on the number and it would show you the thread.

My guess is that this function is included with the forum program.

It is important to me so that I can read the reply to me someone took the time to write.

As an alternative solution, you can use your name as a keyword enclosed within quotes (i.e. "Zoe Saldana") as a search query to return the most recent post from each unique thread.

That’s actually what I do, refreshing the results page every now and again at will. Just to add to that the following inconveniences that one should consider if they use the search function for this purpose:

-   It might be best to delimit the message age to a few days, to focus on near-time quotes.

-   Normally, sort by most recent topic first.

-   Search seems to work on complete words, not partial. That means that if your user name is quoted with and @ or a 's, you won’t (I believe) get a hit. In order to overcome this, you can place several search keywords in the search function, separated by spaces, and using the "match any words" option (i.e. @DdmrDdmr DdmrDdmr ddmrddmr's DdmrDdmr, ddmr2, DdmrDdmr's).

-   The search function sometimes does weird things when simply refreshing the results page (which is what I do). Every now and again, it returns results that are completely unrelated to the parameters. When it does so, you need to go back to the search parameter screen, and change something before hitting the search button again.

- This method depends on one actually refreshing the results page at will.

Edit: Altered search string example and separated by spaced, not coma (coma would be part of the search string)

It really isn't. I have been using it for a few months and it works great. You can just copy/paste someone else's application and edit the user id #. Use this for example. Make sure the link is also edited to include your user ID.

Set the first line to ignore your own user ID. You don't need the scrapper to send you notifications when you write your own name or quote one of your posts on the forum. The second line tells the scrapper to show the whole post in the notification. You can use "justlinks" if you want to see only links to where your were quoted/mentioned. The last line tells the scrapper to list the quotes from newest to oldest. It makes less sense to configure it to show oldest posts at the top, and force you to scroll down to the bottom to see the most recent mentions.

In so many other forum's software...
It's irrelevant what other forums do. This one doesn't whether we like it or not and it sure as hell wont be introduced now after so many years.

Yes I think those things are not put in place because before this forum is launched, Santosh and his team has already predicted the future of the forum right from then present. Believing the notion that the forum is manage by an experience people and maintain by high technical engineers.
