1.) Fall back to the last working plotter chia-pos 1.3, all the software since then is broken

2.) Use linux, and cmd-line only

3.) Don't use any gui tools

4.) don't use any plot managers like 'plotman' they'll kill all your hard work, and reset you to scratch

5.) develop monitors for all NVME iostat, nvme, htop are your friends

6.) never try to run more than 4x plots in parallel on one NVME drive, the controller can't handle it

7.) Watch for the infamous 'mis-match' error in the chai-log for each 'chia create plot' instance, once you get that message, it means that NVME has been destroyed

8.) Watch 'sudo nvme smart-log /dev/nvmeNNN', watch TEMP of controller and 'controller busy count' if either go astro, then kill that plot process before it kills your NVME

I see now that chia-pos is saying they have a new 'killer version' ( 14), since about 1.0 of chia-plot, 'making it faster' has really meant killing NVME's more often, the plot speed is always going to be 6-8 hours, its always best NOT TO KILL YOUR HW. CHIA-DEV doesn't care about you, they only care about the CHIA IPO.

The GUI is unstable, the blockchain code is now terminal, nobody on earth can get chia-net to sync, and if you do, its doesn't stay sync'd for long.

The only thing useful is to use old pre 1.3 plotting software and make plots and then mine on HPOOL.com and make some money today.

Once chia gets the blockchain stable and sync'd ( this could take months, if ever ), then we will see. My fear for now is that the newer plotter software is designed to make it impossible to earn money on HPOOL, so there is a war, don't get involved, hold back to a working version, where the plots are supported in both worlds.

DEV is saying that when their plotting protocol is done, we must destroy all our plots and start over, the chinese now own chia by 70%, they'll not tolerate this bullshit coming from dev. The CHINESE IOU's made the price go to $1600usd, and keep it there, once the chia-dev team trys to screw china out  of its hard-work, then chia will implode.

IMHO the future is this, people  (US USERS) will clone chia fix the bugs, as its clear this team has no software management experience at delivering a software product to a commercial market. Sure they're all great influencers and marketing guys, but they have never developed software in a real software company.

Chia is a good idea, its too bad that a weak management team destroyed it. It's not the first proof-of-space coin, there will be others, we all can see the problems, so now lets fix them.

Sure BRAM created bit-torrent yaba-yaba, but it took 5+ years to get it rock solid, and he was probably long gone the people that made it rock solid were more than likely dev's in the wild improving open-source.

...

I cannot stress enough, why plot chia if you can't earn XCH? To do this you must use HPOOL.COM, they have a plotter, and a miner, I only use their miner, its rock solid, and they do updates weekly; I don't know about their plotter I don't use it, I don't have to give them my keys, I just sign a their generated public-key, and it proves I own my plots. Right now you can earn a chia every two months, with every 200 plots. If you do as your told and 'solo mine' you will earn ZERO, and then be told to delete your plots once the pool is blessed by god-chia. They're even saying your must POS to join their pool, this of course is all 100% bullshit.

HPOOL.COM is fair & honest company; the guy is western educated and speaks fluent english; its just a normal pool just like ethermine.org, or superpool.io; These guys have years of experience, the chia-team don't know shit about mining-pools, they'll never deliver anything but bugs.

Lastly the question why have for months the talking heads on youtube dissed HPOOL.COM, these are old paid influencers, by you know who. Why the lies? About private-keys, about stealing, about not trusting china? Why?

Why do they do nothing about destroying our NVME drives, why do they not care? ( chia plotting kills my brand new samsung evo 980's at 25% of warranty TBW, that's every two weeks DOA )

Why is chia-dev sw management so blatantly incompetent?

Noone is forcing you to mine chia

Noone is forcing you to use SSD to plot

However, you seem enforced to spread FUD

I don't understand this mining that kills hard drives. If they said that GPU mining kills video cards, then this is not true. The only thing that kills GPU mining is the cooling system. I do not like to wait until the hard disk is divided into sectors, it is better to mine on a video card

Chia mining kill no HDD, the same you said about GPU mining. But most people don't understand what is the difference between mining chia and creating plots for chia.
Only to create the plots for mining is a little bit hard for your SSD and can kill after many TB and thats it. I plot over 60 TB with my 2TB SSD and it is alive and work like a charm. And now i use it for my gaming PC.

Yes, i use some old HDDs from my old Burst miner to mine Chia -> i used this HDD´s for BURST/BHD mining 3 years -> and now on chia -> no problems

Fast sector formation requires a fast hard drive.
You are right, you can use a regular hard disk for the formation, but instead of 6-8 hours for the formation of 1 sector on the SSD disk, you can spend 24 or more hours on the HDD disk.
I think this is a bad idea, because I will lag behind other miners by 3-4 times.

I thought this was pretty concise btc-room.  I have heard about a bunch of problems, and as you alluded, there is so much bullshit out there about plotting and mining.  So with that said, does anyone think its worth it to get involved at this point?  Seems like something to dip your toes into but seems like its a trainwreck.

Yeah, I don't really understand plotting/mining with SSDs, I mean aren't HDDs a better option purely because of greater durability than SSDs?
We all understand SSDs have a finite TBW and after that they are dead whereas HDDs will work as long as mechanical parts are fine which is in general more durable than SSDs in my opinion.

When setting up any kind of miner I'm all in for as better durability as you can pick and/or get out of your hardware rather than mining as aggressive/faster as you can.
That should be a "default" mentality for ANY miner out there!

Thanks, here's the real deal, we can no longer get GPU cards for our mining rigs and our hobby.

My rigs pay about $30/day on ETH, been so for years, but now I can't buy new cards.

3 months ago I stepped into 'chia', I took a rig partially filled, added some hard-diks, and then on my super-computer ( 3 nvmes, 32 cores, 64 gb ) I started burning plots ( 108gb files ) that contain hashes, I can generate 32 plots a day,  for every 400 plots a day I make 1XCH per month, I don't care just like ETH I just accumulate.

What about price, I really don't know, could go to to zero. If the arseholes at chia-dev continue to piss off china with their 'porn plots' then this thing will hump to zero, remember it was chinese ious that drove the price of xch to $1600, now $600, the plot space is still rising 8%/day, now its 9.8EB ( billion-billion bytes )

So here I am  can't buy gpus, so about 3+ months ago, I put in a bunch of orders to AMZN for HD's, NVME's, and sata's they're coming in now, and I'm glad cuz the price has gone 2-3x since February

Is it worth? Its exactly like mining ETH, $25/day is geting rich, it ain't breaking even, its just accumulating crypto off the grid. Compeche?

Lastlly, I just tell the truth in this scam laden den of BS, you can't handle the truth don't read what I post. ( not saying this too you summy to the woke who can't handle the truth )

Is it too late? Well like I just said, you need multiples of 400 plot, that's 40TB, thats 4 * 10 TB drive, which are now un-available except at 4x, and probably used sold by a scammer on ebay. So its not too late, but only if you got the NVME's already, the Sata-ssd, and the HDD ( high cap )

Heres the deal, you will burn up the NVME every 100+ plots, the sata-ssd is for temp storage of plot, and final write is to the HDD on the system, the plot engine doesn't work well on the lan, so you must generate plots on your super-computer, then pull the drives & add them to your rigs.

Just like GPU you wait, I guess would be the answer, as only a FOOL would pay todays price for an RTX-3070, I paid $500USD six months ago, now they're $2,000; So you wait until the price for GPUs collapse. Same for HDD today

On the other hand if you have high-cap driives then do it, but realistically you need at least 100TB ( 1,000 plots )

Think of it this way every 100 plots ( 10TB ) is like one gtx-1060-6gb.

So every 'rig' needs ten 10TB drives, I would limit 10TB because if you have a drive failure, you would lose 180 plots on a 18TB.

Who needs this chia scam shit ?

"On February 9th we released our Business Whitepaper and mainnet launched for farming rewards on Friday March 19, 2021. Transactions were enabled on May 3, 2021. You may also be interested in our new consensus working document which was implemented first in Beta 19 on January 12, 2021."

But for some reasons those scammers forgot to tell about '2 500 000 TB!!!' were pre-farmed.

The only thing they "doing well" is that they spammed all the media resources with their paid advertising.

Even this forum thread is fucked up by dozens of the same topics about how "beautiful" Chia is.

BINGO

All marketing, and nothing else, but the blowback is here the most prestigious papers & on earth are now calling out chia

1.) bram is a compulsive liar, admitted liar to boot, he doesn't even hide the fact that virtually everything he has said was a lie

2.) Chia is a worst polluter than bitcoin, imagine that?

https://davidgerard.co.uk/blockchain/2021/05/22/news-everybody-hates-chia-defi100-rugpull-china-versus-mining-china-versus-crypto/

I don't see chia everywhere on this site, very little actually, and even less people here know zip about it, or have even tried to use it.

They also have dozens of paid influencers on youtube, some of the biggest names on YT have all whored themselves on the behalf of this scamcoin, having destroyed their credibility, talking to you caleb and bud's

CHIA has managed to spend 90% of their budget on marketing, and nada on development, blowback is here now as their sw is seen as shitware.

On a single NMVE I can get 16 plots per day, I was talk about $$ day there not plots dude.

I can do 32 plots/day, but I don't I do 16 plots/day, and I average income of $20/day, the purpose of the post is to remind all that nobody is making real money in this scam.

I make more money miniing ETH, without risk of killing my HW, so far this month alone I have killed 3 drives playing with chia.

My 3-nvme system is the only one I use for plotting ( creating 108gb plots files), one nvme for the os, one for plotting, one for plot-temp, I only run 4 plots, gen every six hours; Sure I can do 32, but why?

My 16 plots day, barely keeps up with the 8.9% EB space-growth, now what 10.9EB? Yesterday 10.1 ( 10.1 billion billion bytes )

Unlike ETH, where you add cards, here more plots just keeps you even, you stop making plots, and you fall behind.

Big part of that hashrate rise is fake, done by chinese cheaters at hpool:

"1. Many users use the same file to mine in the wallet and mining pool at the same time to steal HashRate from other users: we have now detected that about 170 daily accounts was banned for this issue (which means that 170 daily blocks should have been generated in the mining pool but was rubbed away. Fewer than 10% users accept the punishment).

2. Fake HashRate: some miners participated in mining by forging false documents to obtain illegal profits. At present, we have investigated and confirmed that about 500+P have been involved in this attempt, among which a single account is involved with 180P.

The investigation is still going on."

Once upon a time viruses were only on windoze

Today chia is the ONLY XCH mining pool on earth, so all the hackers only have one place to attack, and then of course chia-network, not be capable of creating a pool interface spends all their resources to denigrate & harass HPOOL

I'm glad that HPOOL is cleansing its system of arse-holes, suits me fine, more XCH for me.
