I have recently been reading the documents for v2 which seem interesting and was planning on writing some pool software in python, as I have nothing better to do right now. I was just wondering if any pool owner was thinking of adopting it over v1?

I also cannot seem to find any python code out there for v2 so I thought either... no adoption or it's fairly new?

FYI: I know slushes pool has adopted, I think they helped with the design?

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

More than that. They authored most of stratum v2. Read the footer of the site:

Stratum V2 is a project of Braiins, the company powering Slush Pool. Led by co-CEOs Pavel Moravec and Jan Čapek, Braiins is committed to developing free open-source software that moves the Bitcoin mining industry forward.

It appears that the only demo implementation of v2 is the Braiins OS+ download on that site.

I had a feeling they did because I think they made v1 also? Mining at slushes was my first bitcoin mining experience Smiley

Unfortunately they don't mention what kind of license used for Stratum V2 software. All i can find is the Stratum V2 Specification (WORK IN PROGRESS) uses BSD-3 which is a bit strict compared with MIT license.

If they use strict license such as GPLv3 or BSD-4 on the software or final protocol, Bitcoin industry/community will be hesitant to adopt it.

That's a shame, I am looking at the specification and it does not give too much technical info just a lot of high level details.

I was only looking at the project to improve my coding skills with Python, So I might just go for StratumV1 where there is plenty of documentation and examples.

Thanks for the responses.

Matt Corallo's betterhash ideas also contributed to Stratum 2. Not sure the details, though. Matt is listed as a co-author, IIRC
