Cricket - The Hundred
A new format of cricket is getting introduced. In this game each and everything is in terms of balls and not overs. The first season of the league is scheduled to take place starting from July 21 - Aug 21. The tournament gives a different dimension to cricket with men and women teams having same prize money. Right now the tournament is conducted within England with foreign players participation.

Teams - 8
Teams were based on the cities of England and Wales. As of now the team names weren't confirmed. Once after naming this gets revealed.

Game Format

• 100 balls per innings
• A change of ends after 10 balls
• Bowlers deliver either five or 10 consecutive balls
• Each bowler can deliver a maximum of 20 balls per game
• Each bowling side gets a strategic time-out of up to two and a half minutes
• A 25-ball powerplay start for each team
• Two fielders are allowed outside the initial 30-yard circle during the powerplay
• Teams will be able to call time-outs, as has been the case in the IPL since 2009
• A simplified scoreboard is also proposed

After the initiation of IPL, a lot of experiments have started happening in the cricket game to make it more attractive. That's good because it is helping to boost its popularity around the world and new players are coming into limelight.

I don't see a lot of changes in the actual format here. Instrad of six balls, there will be five balls per over and a bowler can bowl for two consecutive overs. Hopefully it will give some edge to the bowlers as opporsed to the bastman.

Btw, is there a gambling website planning to list this tournament?

Though it was planned one year ago but haven't seen any news about it. I just learned about this new format from your topic. Anyway, this game is still same as T20 match. They have reduced 1 ball from each over and it made the difference in whole game pattern. Also there is difference in over system, quite interesting!

But it's not going to be easy for a fast bowler to continuously make 10 good delivery. Cause they will loss the energy and speed of their bowling. BTW, foreign players will also participate in this tournament. So, most of the sports betting sites may add this tournament on their platform.

Too many formats and it will confuse more people and anyone trying to understand and watch cricket, it is already hard for any new fans to understand everything as there are multiple formats and i have heard about the 100 ball version but due to the pandemic they might have extended the tournament they were planning to conduct.

We now have Test, ODI, T20 and in domestic there is 4 day matches and T10 and now the 100, any more experiments left and squeeze another format  .

There is nothing much an issue to understand the match format, because in the hundred format just the overs were reduced. Apart from this everything is almost same as other cricketing format. Maybe the person who is watching cricket for the first time finds it difficult to understand as we've got more format of cricket.

Maybe for the fast moving world, there is need of game that isn't time consuming.

The T20 format is also initiated and developed by ECB in 2003 and then the initial world cup was a grand success and India won the first tournament which changed the format popularity and before that ICL tried to take advantage of the popularity but BCCI killed that initiation and started the IPL copying everything the ICL was doing and now ECB is coming with another format which might interest the fans.

There is no way the shorter format will be designed to help the bowlers as they want to have audience seeing the ball disappearing in the stadiums rather than seeing the sight of batsman struggling.

Personally I am not comfortable with any further shortening of the T20 format. I believe that it requires at least 120 balls per innings to have a meaningful match. If you want to further reduce the duration, then you need to reduce the number of players as well. 120 balls per 6 batsmen gives at least 15-25 balls per batsmen. That is the bare minimum. What is the point in having the match, if each of the batsmen don't get more than 10-15 balls each? I understand that the ICC wants a shortened format which can be then globalized. But my point is that we can't have a 100-ball match with 11 players. It may be more suitable with 8 players.
